Personally I find this news annoying as hell only because they need to kill it now. But maybe that's me.

So, yeah, Guitar Hero DS. Not much is said beyond 'It's happening' and 'it may have peripherals' but to see that they're still trying...geez.

Just to let you know... GH DS was announced while HMX was still developing the games.

You forgot to ask me and a few others when you conducted your poll to determine that "nobody" wants it. I know a few people who think it would be cool.

I wonder how good of sound quality they can achieve with the DS.

I can't believe they are actually going through with a GH DS. If they have a peripheral, I envision a DS clipped into a guitar controller like the ones there are now, similar to how the Wiimote will clip into the Les Paul, and the screen will flip open, and thats how you will play, it'll be like a portable GH. I wonder if it will have different songs than GH III, or what.

Id only get that for really long car rides, but id rather it on the psp.

I know but it's been quite a while since then.

Well, I guess this isn't a completely stupid idea, 'cause I kinda get tired of lugging my PS2 in the car for long drives to like Hershey and stuff, so it would be kinda cool to have GH on the DS that fits in my pocket, but, seriously, how would GH work on DS? Think about it, a handheld system is meant to be just that; handheld, take with you everywhere, fits in your pocket, etc. But to, as the RedOctane dude said, possibly have a custom peripheral such as a guitar, that would pretty much take away the portability of a portable game system. But, to decide on this game and by the fact that they're Nintendo and they're probably smarter than all of us and all, they've probably got ideas outta the wazoo how to make this game work and be as fun and challenging as the real GH games on the consoles while maintaining the portability of the DS. Portabilty is the only thing that I'm really worried about, but otherwise, since Red Octane really hasn't failed at bringing to us a great GH game or anything else, I think that it may shape out to be a good and different take on GH and I'll definetly buy it.
There is also another guitar game that has been in the works for quite some time for the DS called 'Jam Sessions' which is coming out in September in which you strum on the strings on the touch screen and use select buttons on the DS as frets and such. The game also utilizes the mic. so you can sing and record your voice to produce any song that you want. So, yeah, this is the current way that they're doing guitar on the DS, so this is another possible way of doing GH on DS. If you wanna check this game out, go to it's myspace page. Well, I have Elite Beat Agents for my DS. There are only 20 songs and they're definitely compressed, but the sound is ok through the built-in speakers (stereo at least) and better through the headphones.

I envision the guitar plugging into the GBA slot. I saw pictures for a game supposedly coming out for the DS which is an Arkanoid-type game and it comes with a spinner control that plugs into that slot. The only problem I see, though, is what do you do with the DS while holding the guitar controller? So maybe the DS does attach to it somehow. You don't want the controller to be too big because the DS is supposed to be portable. It will be interesting to see what they come up with, if anything.

The dance game Pump It Up (just think DDR) is coming out on PSP (in Korea, not here) but of course there's no dance pad. Its really just meant to be able to practice on the go; practice being becoming more familiar with the charts/music/etc. Its very possible there won't be a guitar for this and its just meant to give you that practice and the GH fix when you're on the go. -- Trying to beat that song right before you go to work but keep messing up on that solo where you can't quite get it right? and crap, time to leave! Play it on your lunch break (or even during work if given the freedom) and study the chart. Get home and destroy it! -- If they want it to be another blockbuster in the series, then I would expect some kind of peripheral. If they just want to expand the series to portable with maybe a few platform specific extras, then I wouldn't expect a peripheral. *shrug*

If it has new songs, I'd buy the DS just for that.

Can't see how this would be implemented reasonably

Can't see why anyone would want this implemented reasonably

I suppose you could have notes scrolling left or right and tap the sides of the screen, dragging up and down for bends or fast riffs. Hey that's a good idea. I should make sure Red Octane has my address so they know where to send the checks to.

Is DS even complex enough to handle a game like guitar hero...I would think if it having a better chance on psp as many others have said...I would definately get it for on the go though...I really dont understand how this would work, im curious to find out...

As nicko68 also mentioned, I have Elite Beat Agents for DS and it sounds and plays fine. It's a great game. Guitar Hero would probably only have 18-25 songs though - at most.

As far as making it work, I think it could work nicely with a small fretboard you could strap to you left or right hand (for lefties) and then use the touch pad to strum. The game would be in the top screen.

So do you read my thoughts and then post them? That's exactly what I was thinking. Oh well, I only have to post in half as many threads thanks to you.

No. I have microscopic alien robots reading them for me, then I post them. :D

Haha. You only have to reply to half the posts because he says what you think? You know what that means right? He gets you.

That aside, why wouldn't they just make you hold down a direction on the pad or the L shoulder and strum with your stylus?
