Ok, I took the time to get the best list for Rock Band together. It absolutely doesn't matter which song you use from those artists - they are all incredibly unbelievably awesome. If you want this game to REALLY rock you need to use my list:

Although I have no fear of a banhammer, I actually do enjoy Opeth. I only put them on the list to mock all of those who suggest bands that wouldn't work because of the lack of a double bass pedal. Blackwater Park = Secks.
