The guitar has a switch next to the buttons that changes the effects on the guitar, like distortion. There are five different distortions. I don't know what they are, and thats what I'm trying to find out. I think the bass might have 5 different distortions, too. Can someone help me out with this? Just trying to find out the distortions.

Well, the 5th doesn't HAVE to be regular :)
I believe, though, that you are correct on those 4. I haven't heard anything else official, but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that there will also be an overdrive/fuzz (distortion) and reverb as well.
On bass, the only one that I would expect to NOT be available is the delay (sometimes called echo). I mean honestly, have you ever heard a delay on bass? No, because bass is meant to keep time, and delay screws that up.

I believe the recent interview with IGN confirmed bass won't have pickup effects applicable to it ingame.

The utter hatred of bass makes me sad.

If im not mistaken I remember something about being able to buy different effects with in game money made in career mode and map them to your different switches as you choose.

I didn't see that in the interview (http://www.rockband.com/vbforum/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=39877). It only said:
The effects give the player useful feedback when specific modes are engaged (such as a Solo Section for the guitar role), but don't specifically impact gameplay itself. However, they sound awesome, and greatly contribute to the authenticity of the experience.
To me, that says that they will be on in guitar solo sections, but doesn't rule out being anywhere else. Were you thinking about another interview?

Bass > All.
It needs more respect.

No bass effects in Rock Band would make Bootsy Collins cry :(
