Rock Band came out in November 2007. We know that it takes approximately 3 months for a song to become DLC, so almost all (or perhaps all) of the songs we have seen as DLC so far were being worked on before the game launched.
So, now that we're leaving the pre-launch zone of DLC, I'm wondering if the DLC we're seeing now is the result of people's requests. Among the DLC that's been announced for March or otherwise mentioned, (Still Alive, Nirvana, etc.), did you use the "Request a Song" feature, post a comment in a forum, or in any other way request any of the songs that are currently announced?
