Like what we call a "step-editor" in the dance game communities, what do you all think about a chart-editor (a better name for it?) for RB? Writing/recording your own songs, bringing in the audio to the game, and making the chart for it. It's quite a bit different than a dance game because hitting the correct notes actually makes the music play (for your instrument) where in a dance game the music plays no matter what and you just have to hit the correct steps. Actually, thinking about that, it would probably require loading in the music for each instrument as a separate track so that the music for the instruments not being used will still play continuously...quite a hassle. The more I think about the more unrealistic it seems so I'll stop there, haha. I'll go ahead and post the thread though to see all your thoughts. How do you think a chart-editor would be possibile and would you like to have one?

It's an idea that ppl have been playing with for a while now, check out www.scorehero.com to see about it all.

Basicly fans will make their own charts to other songs (usually their dream GH songs) and people who "own" the music to that song can download the chart. Then using a few programs (including Guitar Hero Explorer) they replace old GH songs with new mp3's and chart files to match.

However, as you mentioned in your post there is the whole problem of needing seperate guitar tracks, but thats usually overlooked with the custom songs. Some people will try to remove the guitar in audio editing programs with a simple tool removing all sounds of a certain frequencey, but its results aren't so great.

Still fun to play though. You need to burn the new GH disc and be able to play that on your ps2, I use Swap Magic, it works fine, get to play cool new songs.

ah, I had assumed there were people messing with it already for GH but I haven't looked into it or been part of an online GH community in the past so I had no clue. Thanks for the info and link.
