I just did a search and it appears nobody has discussed this before, sorry if it has been brought up. But I was on Crooked-X's Myspace just now checking out some of their other stuff besides Nightmare, and in their Bio further on down the page, it says this, direct quote:

"Crooked X's original song "Nightmare" is one of the only emerging artist tracks in MTV Networks ROCK BAND game (www.rockband.com). There will be six more Crooked X songs in the next edition of Rock Band to be released this year. These songs will also be available for download in early summer of 2008."

I don't know exactly what speculation could be made from it saying the "next edition" of Rock Band, but from reading this, it sounds like there could be some more Crooked-X on the way in the summer.

Either way, sounds fun to me because I quite enjoy playing "Nightmare".

What should we take from this? I mean a band's Myspace isn't exactly a great source.

I think that's their official site, so to speak. I'd consider it to be legit.

Well their official website is www.crookedx.com, but they don't seem to be updating it much.

I guess it could be considered decently legit, but nothing's ever 100% until HMX says it.

I don't think there's any reason to assume that this is a lie, but the details could be distorted a bit. Remember that Slash said in interviews before GHIII that there would be two Velvet Revolver songs in the game, only to have none on the game disc and a DLC pack a few weeks after the launch.

That said, I think that if this info is legit, there is a great deal of speculating we can do. Here are the facts I'll base my speculation on:

1. Rock Band 2 proposes a unique problem. Since it has been established as a "platform" it will be problematic to release a sequel if DLC will not work anymore or discs have to be swapped to play songs from either game.

2. There are people out there who don't have sufficient knowlege/access to download DLC or a potential patch.

3. If they end up releasing a sequel that installs directly to the hard drive, then runs off of the Rock Band 1 disc, people will likely find a way to share/pirate the game.

4. There are several features that I'm sure the developers would like to add, such as online BWT, an in-game store, single player BWT, customized setlists, enhanced sorting/song browsing and additional BWT gigs that integrate with DLC.

Here's the solution that would seem to be supported by this info:

Make a Rock Band 2 (or Rock Band v 1.1) that could be DLC as well as a disc. It would work like the OXM song pack and install directly to the hard drive and work with the Rock Band disc. This would contain all of the aforementioned feature upgrades and sell for a bargain price. To avoid the issue of piracy, they can just fill the disc with "bonus" bands like Crooked X, Freezepop and Bang Camero. That way, they don't have to worry about upset record companies when people share the disc, since the bands are likely just looking for exposure at this point in their careers. Having the in-game store/advertisements for DLC would go a long way towards justifying this update, which would likely be sold just to break even or make a small profit.

Just because a band isn't with a major label doesn't mean they want their songs pirated. If anything, they're hurt more than big name bands since they need whatever exposure and income they can get to move up in the musical world.

I would much rather see RB2 be a full disc worth of content, which "links" to the RB1 save file. This would allow you to carry over artists, bands, and DLC to RB2.
