UK, May 23, 2007 - Activision has rocked our world by officially announcing that Guitar Hero III will feature wireless guitars, an online multiplayer mode and original artists recordings when the game is released this Autumn.
Guitar Hero III will be available on PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii and will feature an abundance of new modes, including a multiplayer action-inspired battle mode, boss battles, unlockable content and authentic rock venues.
More importantly, wannabe rock gods can get their fingers in a twist with the all-new wireless guitar controllers, with the Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 getting the Gibson Les Paul and PS2 the proud recipient of a Gibson Kramer. What's more, the guitars will have removable faceplates that allow fans to personalise their guitars, plus they'll include a new button colour design for "an even greater authentic feel and rock experience".
In addition Guitar Hero III will include an expanded online multiplayer in which axe-shredders worldwide can compete in head-to-head battles to prove they're the ultimate rock legend. As for the tracks you'll be rocking along to, Activision has revealed that GHIII features more master recordings than ever before, with the first tracks announced as follows:
Paint It Black - The Rolling Stones
Cherub Rock - Smashing Pumpkins
Sabotage - Beastie Boys
The Metal - Tenacious D
My Name is Jonas - Weezer
Knights of Cydonia - Muse
Rock And Roll All Nite - Kiss
School's Out - Alice Cooper
Slow Ride - Fog Hat
Cult of Personality - Living Colour
Barracuda - Heart
Well first thing.. Microsoft allowing GHII to get the wireless treatment should pretty much all but be a promise that Rock Band will also be able to do the same with their instruments. Also, the idea of boss battles may seem silly at first (especially when you consider how the Tony Hawk series has devolved) but I think they could be pretty cool if done right.
If anything, it's nice to see that those of us who get Rock Band and GH3 are hopefully gonna get different experiences from both titles, and not just be left with a "oh, I wish this track was on Rock Band instead" feeling :D

NO WIRELESS AXES!!! [/Mommie Dearest]
Seriously, what the crap. I'm sorry, but the official wireless for GHII did not live up to my standards. If they're going to be the new thing, they have to do two things. First, no lag on standard AND hi-def. That is an absolute must. Secondly, IT'S 2007 GUYS. That means give me a rechargable lithium-ion pack that's going to last, and stop making me buy batteries. Batteries are effin' expensive and I need that money for the DLC in both games.
Sorry for the rant, but I'm passionate about this. Otherwise, I've heard murmurings about Guitar Villians, and the boss battles they mentioned are probably what that was all about.

GH3 better come out soon because im already getting tired of 2 for the 360. i hope it is alot better in some places such as customization and different modes.
it might just be an all out brawl between GH3 and RB because who knows which one is gunna have what and what crazy extras each may throw in. GH will probably lose alittle business with its so called 80s encore game too

2 Vids of GHIII in all their high quality glory... lookin' pretty good, I don't know how improved the graphics are over GH2 on 360 as I've never seen it, but they're lookin real nice. Plus u can now see your note streak.

"Since Harmonix is now owned by MTV and hard at work on Rock Band, Neversoft wasn't given access to the code from previous Guitar Hero games. That means Guitar Hero III is being built from the ground up."
This could be good or bad. I am hoping for the good.
It also mentions that the fret button layout would not change.

two more tracks announced (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/793/793262p1.html)
Evenflow: Pearl Jam
Lay Down: Priestess
one interesting bit of trivia comes up in the article as they talk about issues of getting master tracks and whatnot
The Living Colour song, Cult of Personality, is a track that people have been wanting in Guitar Hero for a long time. There was a slight hitch with it though. The master track was nowhere to be found. Instead of getting a cover, Living Colour came in and re-recorded the song just for the game. And they threw in a wicked solo that makes this song on expert just plain ridiculous.

Haha! Living colour re recording the song is awesome! I hadn't read that anywhere b4.

Part 3 of IGN's 3 day GHIII coverage < this time detailing battle mode..
While it isn't possible to trade off improvised licks in Guitar Hero like a real guitar duel, the new battle mode does keep you on your toes. Here's how it works. Star power doesn't exist in battle mode. Instead, matching every "star" note in a lick gives you a power-up to use against your opponent. These attacks only last a brief moment, but they do wonders towards throwing your adversary off his or her game. Up to three power-ups can be stored to use at the right moment and tilting your guitar vertically (just like activating star power) uses one of your attacks.
sounds remaniscent of battle tetris :P

So the point of battle mode is to disable your opponent at the right time, rather than be better than them... I dunno if i like that. Might be fun though.

Yeah, after thinking about it.. I'm not really that keen on the whole goal being to make them fail.. get a lower score I could be behind (although having different difficulty settings kind of negates that) but I just dunno how much I'd be into playing along, doing really well and then BAM leftyflip, it's all over--especially if it was against someone totally useless who lucked out.
Perhaps, it'll breed a whole new player who can adapt to anything that's thrown their way, who knows though.

It was a pretty fun game mechanic in Amplitude's multiplayer to be able to screw with your opponent when you unleashed powerups.

It is always good to have variety, even if the mode is not the choice of perfect competitive play it will be fun.
And there is nothing wrong with a mode where you have to adapt quickly, it certainly adds more strategy.
Also I do not want it to fail, there is room for more then one rhythm game in the world.
