Hi,

I am having a similar problem with people reporting their guitar cannot power on after battery exchange. But my problem actually started when I was waiting for my friend to setup his character in the rock shop, the guitar went into auto-sleep mode, and when I tried to press the "PS Button" to wake it, it have no effect. I tried the following but it still didn't work:

1. Replace batteries to fresh new ones
2. Turn off and Turn on the master switch at the back
3. Press the sync button on both the console side and guitar side
4. Restarting the PS3 and the Game

I was wondering if there's anything I can do about this without having to replace the guitar, since I am living in Hong Kong right now. Thanks in advance.

I have the issue resolved. Just wanted to write the info here, in case someone will find it useful.

The thing that I do when I turn on the power switch and the guitar does nothing:

1) Turn off the guitar and PS3
2) Take the batteries from the guitar
3) Unplug the PS3 power cord
4) Unplug the USB receiver
5) Wait a few minutes
6) Put the batteries of the guitar back in
7) Turn on the guitar (MUST turn on guitar FIRST)
8) Plug in the receiver and turn on the PS3
9) The guitar should functional now, if not, try boot Rock Band and see if it works.

DO NOT allow the guitar to run into auto-sleep or turn the power switch off in the game. You will not be able to turn it back on again unless you follow the steps above. To make sure the guitar can properly turn on next time, you will have to do the following to turn it off:

1) Unplug the USB receiver.
2) Turn off the guitar power switch.

That way I get my guitar working again, although it's a hassle, but it's better than nothing.
Anyway, hope this will prove useful to anyone who might run into the same problem.

I will try it to see if it works with mine

Tech support should start to take a look at this as it seems to be a bug in either the hardware or possibly the software.

Its TEN TIMES easier to solve than what you did. I just switch the master switch on and off then if still doesn't turn on, I then press the dongle reciever button. then if still doesnt, I press the PS button on the guitar. If it STILL doesn't, press the white button where the cord would go into the guitar. No need to ever restart PS3 or game.
It should definantly turn on in one of these steps, IF it doesn't, try the steps in the above post.

*shrug* I've had two guitars have problems waking up from auto-sleep, but they always were either solvable by flipping the guitar's power switch off and then back on again and/or hitting the button on the dongle. I've never had to reboot my PS3, change batteries, unplug the dongle, quit the game or whatnot.

This has also only happened to me after an extended period of non-play. If the guitar turns off cause I spent too long in the bathroom, it comes right back up. If I go to bed and try playing the next day, I'd need to do the above with those two particular guitars (the rest of the guitars that I've had power up fine no matter what).

Odd thing is that this problem has only come up with 2 of the 6 or so PS3 guitar's I've messed around with and I've used different batteries in both (NiMH rechargables in one and alkaline in the other). So I guess it's a defect of some kind but in my case it's not a particularly annoying one.

I had this issue with my first guitar, which I RMA'd because it started double hitting. As said, nothing I could press on the guitar would reconnect it and pressing the dongle button didn't work either. What I had to do was take the dongle out and (with the guitar switched on) plug it back in. Worked every time...

Thank you for posting extra info. I understand that most people would not have to go through with resetting or even unplugging their PS3. But in my case, I did all the unplugging dongle, turning off the power on guitar, flipping off the main power on PS3...etc. None of them works, that's why I started the post in first place. Either way, I must now turn on the guitar before I plug in the dongle, and must unplug the dongle before turning off the guitar if I wanted it to be able to turn on again without quitting the game and unplugging the PS3. :(

What I was suspecting was there are some kind of information stored on the PS3 or the guitar (if it has any kind of memory inside at all). The status of it wouldn't reset when it fell into sleep mode. So taking off the batteries on the guitar and unplugging the power of PS3 might help.

Comforting to know i'm not the only one with this specific issue ... Tried all of the above, not sure if it was in that particular order but i'll try again just to make sure.
Either way i've already contacted the tech support line for an RMA adress,
but it would be awesome if i got it solved via this method.

I've only noticed this problem when I enabled the PS3's new power saving settings.

Only way I could get the controller back without quiting the setlist was to unplug the usb receiver, plug it back in then press ps on the guitar. Normally have to follow that up with setting the guitar back to the right controller port too.

I disabled the power savings in the PS3 menus and have not seen the problem since.

Didn't work, and i was hoping it would've .. sigh
Apparantly the guitar just totally gave up even trying to sync
with the reciever
It can sync up (flashing red led on ps button when you press the little white button, so just searching, not actually connecting) to a second every time i remove and replace the fresh battery pack i used as a tester, then just goes dead or inactive
Hope they'll replace it with a properly working one
But if i understand correctly ,each time we have a break or whatever we are supposed to disconnect the reciever and switch off the guitar instead of letting it switch to standby?
That shouldn't supposed to be happening right?
I sincerely wouldn't have minded if the guitar had a cable instead of a wireless reciever (still can't understand how it could just stop working like that).

Well, I know that with my wired drums I have the same problem of the drums not responding if I have that PS3 power saving option enabled. Again, disconnecting and reconnecting the controller gets it going again, often also need to manually set the controller number back to what it was.

My RB1 Guitar does that when left alone for too long :-). All I ever have to do is unplug the dongle from the PS3 and plug it back in again.

still can't get a reaction out of the dern thing,if it wasn't for the warranty void i'd have a look inside, but i guess i'll just send it back, be patient and wait for my RMA :[ ... It stopped working properly the first day i had it, and i mainly wanted it for the guitar bit ..
Guess the positive part is i got a little better at drums
At this point i'm considering looking for a third party controller that has a cable, just in case

Having the same problem.

Rickenbacker went to sleep and won't wake up. Tried turning guitar on and off, tried synching, tried unplugging the dongle, tried restarting the PS3, tried swapping the batteries, no luck. No matter what I do, I can't get the guitar's red PS3 button light to come on.

I'll try the convoluted steps in the second post of this thread, and I sure hope it works because I have no clue where my receipt is. (I got this as a gift and my dad is notorious for not keeping stuff like that.)

EDIT: You know, it occurs to me, these Beatles instruments are hard to find now. If one of these things goes off warrantee and then breaks, does it essentially mean we're stuck using generic / older / non-Beatles instruments? Pretty ****ty deal. I'd hate to think I paid a jacked up $100 for what amounts to a 2-month lease on a controller.

If I can't get this replaced, does anyone know of any leads on forums or hobby sites that demonstrate how to take the guitar apart?
