There is a band called Nightwish, that has a heavier tone and some sweet guitar solos. I think they would be a great candidate for DLC because the singer is a female opera singer who sings in mostly alto or sapprano, more sapprano though...

this is a link to the song that i think would make an incredable Rockband DLC for each person who plays. Hard challange for guitars b/c of the beginning introduction, and difficult for drummers as well. Not too bad for Bass, but no one ever plays bass (only get stuck w/ it b/c someone else wants guitar or b/c they suck at guitar) Not to mention the insane challange for singers.
Anyways. That is my ONE big suggestion for RockBand DLC.
Tell me what you think only if you watch the video, or have heard the music.

There's also Epica, Within Temptation, and many other female power metal bands.

You'd have to make sure it's a Nightwish song with entirely female or male vocals. Their older stuff was almost entirely Turja singing, but on Dark Passion Play Annette and Marco split the duties in most of the songs.
In the Symphonic Metal genre Within Temptation, Epica, Alter Forever, and Rain Fell Within use soprano vocalists. Therion also frequently makes use of an sopranos for backing vocals. Many of those bands combine male and female vocals though, making it difficult to apply them to rock band.
Other metal bands do use female vocals as well outside of Symphonic Metal. Opera IX uses gutteral female vocals similar to Black Metal. Sinergy used Kim's clean vocals in a power metal sound. Thrash/Melodic Death Metal band Arch Enemy uses growled female vocals.

Don't worry, they have a new vocalist now. :D

Nightwish is a decent band, but Tarja is a gimmick, pure and simple. She's got a good voice, but it just doesn't mesh well with the music, and the whole effect is that the songs all feel like they're trying too hard to stand out from other Symphonic/"Prog" Metal bands.

Well it doesn't have to be Nightwish. But some sort of opera metal would be a ton of fun. I'm kinda tired of having easy vocals on a heavy song. And would prefer, even if it were a guy, to ahve some tough opera level vocals...

Please no opera in this game.
out of curiosity why?
they are probably the hardest vocals possible while still maintaining the heavy guitar and drums...
or at least that's my opinion

I really can't stand opera vocals. Operatic, as in sweeping and grandoise, yes, but opera, no, the tone gets on my nerve, and it just wouldn't fit in Rock band, it's a completely different pace. It even feels out of place in the songs it's written for.

all a point of view, but i do understand what you mean. it can be a little out of place in certain things. But i don't want just opera... I want famous, intense opera, such as those written by andrew loid webber.
(not the acutal phantom of the opera song[I find it annoyingly over played and nto near as good as it is made out to be])
But i think that operatic is probably a better word to descibe the types of sweepign vocals i am trying to explane. but those same operatic vocals with heavy music in the background, once again, i think, would be fun to sing, and an incredably hard vocal.

sorry to necropost, but i'd LOVE to have some Nightwish, female AND male vocals. i've gone from Colorado to Texas to see them, even!
took some getting used to marco, but i and a good half dozen of my coworkers and even a few friends in other circles love them.

As cool as having Nightwish in Rock Band would be, I'd rather have Arkona (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgXlUxDGFvU) if given the choice between the two bands

Though I would not necessarily use the word operatic.I could definitely live with some female fronted (goth)metal. "Epica" would be great. Their latest Album is pretty heavy stuff.
"Delain" would also be nice on keys. How about some "Draconian", or "Edenbridge"...

Sure After Forever isn't together anymore but they had some wonderful songs in the past. Take anything off Invisible Circles. Great album.
Also Sirenia. The first two albums are my favorite albums from the gothic metal sub-genre. Nine Destinies and a Downfall and The 13th Floor down right sucked and there is nothing to debate about it. But imagine Sister Nightfall, Lithium And A Lover or Save My From Myself in RB3? HELL YES.
I am surprised that there is so much metal in RB but nothing from gothic or power metal when the genres would be much more fitting into the entire "rock band" experience.

It has been awhile since I've listened to Sirenia but I just loaded them up on Spotify. Voices Within. I'm tossing it into the request right now. I suggest everyone else does to.

Nightwish has all these qualities, and ranges from pretty heavy stuff (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvzMkY8Zxng) to slow and passionate ballads (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaWPduHl_j8). This is with Tarja Turunen though, I don't how good chances would we have about getting the bands old music now that Tarja is no longer in the band..

ps. Nightwish has two vocal parts, female and male in many songs plus a ton of keyboard stuff (since Tuomas Holopainen, the bands soul and composer of most songs, plays the keyboard).

Heres an example of a Nightwish song with two vocal parts (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcyTR5mEC_E).

While I wouldn't mind Nightwish in Rock Band, I'd much rather have some Within Temptation in the Female-fronted Symphonic metal genre.
