Which album do you think is Metallica's best? I'm going to vote for the Black album since "Nothing Else Matters" is my favorite Metallica song. [/blasphemy]

You can have up to ten entries in a poll; you can add Load and Reload.

My favorite Metallica ablum is also Metallica (Black Album). The Unforgiven is my favorite Metallica song. Enter Sandman, Nothing Else Matters, and Sad But True are also great songs. That being said, I also really like One from ...And Justice for All and Until It Sleeps from Load.

Master of Puppets for sure. Load is a great melodic hard rock album though. Not a big fan of Reload however. I also have some favorites on St. Anger, but hopefully their next album will be a nice throwback.

It's like having to chose your favorite child. But I had to go with Kill Em All.

This is the order of greatness in my opinion.

1. Kill Em All
2. Master Of Puppets
3. Ride The Lightning
4. And Justice For All
5. The Whack Album

99,999,999. St Anger

This is one of the hardest questions i've ever been asked. Its very close for me between kill em all and puppets, but I picked puppets in the end. The only reason I like it more is because of the song Master of Puppets which is my favorite song of all time.

I love all of their albums because I'm a big fan, but Master of Puppets is the one album that I can listen to each song without wanting to skip one. And Justice was a close second, followed by Ride the Lightning, Kill 'Em All, then the flood of others.

Everyone will agree Master of Puppets. It has the most kick ass songs in their library put together. And Justice is awesome too. I have a bit of a problem with the production: I hate the way the drums sound.

MetalManiac

Kill em All was definately the best Metallica Album, its the only one with Dave Mustaine's guitar on it, they were'nt sell outs, they didnt give a crap about there music being downloaded and most importantly no weak songs like "nothin else matters"...damn that song sucks. Back then they were a true metal band, not the rag tag group of metal posers they are today.

...And Justice For All is my personal favorite with Master of Puppets not too far behind that.

Gotta go with S&M, the live album. I know its mostly old tracks off other albums but the symphony accompanyment makes every song sound different and IMO incredible. Also, No Leaf Clover is a f*cking brilliant track.

I voted for Black though.

Ha! So true! I, unfortunately bought Load thinking that it was still going to be heavy...I didn't think they'd make anything else. Boy, was I angry that day...

BTW...I agree with you onbest album, too. It is Master of Puppets, but all of the early stuff is great. Orion kicks ass, though, on Master of Puppets. Cliff Burton is God!

Can't anybody appreciate Load, Reload or St Anger? Black album for that matter?

There is some great stuff, but you seem to not care because its not 'fast'. You realise if they didnt venture and experiment they would be playing basically the same boring riffs?
And Hetfield said that they didnt want to stick to one Genre aka Speed/Thrash Metal and they havent.

God its so irritating....

I couldn't agree more with u. I think Load, Reload and St Anger are good albums songs like Fuel, Attitude, Devils Dance, King Nothing, Bad Seed, Hero of the Day, Frantic, Dirty Window, Sweet Amber are all great songs

Ride the Lightning. Followed by Kill 'Em All. Followed by St. Anger.

Kill 'Em All > And Justice For All > Ride The Lightning > St. Anger > Master of Puppets > Reload > The Black Album > Load.

My reasoning behind St. Anger is that there are 3 or 4 songs I like on St. Anger. And, er, 1 on Master of Puppets.

I think every song on Master of Puppets (other than Damage inc/Leper Messiah) is brilliant. It is such an amazing album.

I just have to LoL! at the people who voted for St. Anger. Sorry to be offensive but its almost common knowledge that album sucks.

xenopherus
09-07-2007, 03:43 AM
I chose Master Of Puppets as my favorite. Disposable Heroes is probably my favorite song (and almost every song on the album).

And yeah, I have to agree and say St. Anger was ****ing horrid... I downloaded most of the songs (for "free") and couldn't even listen to them.

Teh_Jakester

I like it. Go away. I also like Ride the Lightning and Kill 'Em All. But St. Anger's the third best to me. Why? Because I like the songs.

And who makes these lists? The Black Album? Load? Your logic is severely flawed.

Ride the Lightning>Kill 'Em All>St. Anger>... and Justice for All>Master of Puppets>Reload>Load>The Black Album.

It's MY ever-changing opinion. You have no right to insult it. If I suggest these songs for GH or RB, sure. Flame away. But insulting me because I like something? Don't you have something better to do?

I have every right to express my opnion as you do. My opinion can be about your opinion. This is the internet and obviously there are going to be people on a video game forum that dont have anything better to do. I dont agree with your opinion, because I think St.Anger sucks a fatty cawk.

Master of Puppets. You can tell Burton was the brains behind every good song they ever had. After he died, they had enough left over to make And Justice For All, but then had to start writing their own songs. Everything since has been a sad mockery of what they used to be.

Raider87
10-09-2007, 08:08 AM
Master Of Puppets is pretty damn brilliant but I love Kill Em' All the most for some reason...
St. Anger is pretty much a sellout joke...
But ya Kill Em' All is amazing, it never gets old

but i would go with Master Of Puppets

none,Metallica was good, but this isn't like a noble peace prize or something that if you skrew up you get to keep,it gets taken,so i listen to no metallica, asides from motorheads cover of enter sandman, which has a pretty funny name.

I dunno, I think it all depends on how you know Metallica. When you came to know them.

If you were a long haired leather jacketed teenager when MoP or AJFA came out, that's the Metallica you knew and because they did vary their sound a lot over the years, it's easy to see how the opinions can differ so wildly.

For me I never listened to Metallica until 'Enter Sandman' was flooding MuchMusic (Canada's MTV) and I bought the album, and honestly never really cared for the other tracks (cause I was a teenage lemming and only attached myself to the popular song).

But a number of years later, Load came out, and I played the $#!t out of it for over a year. Loved that album. But I agree.. I wouldn't call it "metal". But IMO, it was a really good overall album.. production definately became a big deal for the band with Bob Rock.

Reload wasn't quite so good. It was okay, but the album was almost too literal, it sounded a lot like Load, but the writing wasn't as good, the songs didn't quite have the same hook.

I bought Garage Inc and listened to it once.
I bought S&M and other than 2 unhead of tracks, it was largely disappointing. Kudos to them for trying it, but I think it was indeed a failed experiment though.

So for me, the greatest number of tracks I like is on Load, but I do enjoy a handful from the earlier albums, and even a couple off St. Anger (even though I really disliked the disc the first time I spun it.. but I went back to it after the documentary). BTW, Cunning Stunts is a great concert DVD.

IMO Master of Puppets is by far the best album they had come out with, there is amazing guitar in every song, but the Black Album is a close second.

King_Nuthin
11-06-2007, 07:57 PM
Justice was their creative peak (and preceded a rather swift fall, imho). Its really a toss up between Master of Puppets which I think is their best sounding album and Justice which represents their best songwriting but suffers from some studio problems. I give the edge to Justice because it features the stronger opening and close even though all 4 are great songs.

And before anyone asks, my screenname/gamertag is in no way related to any filthflornfilk from latter day Metallica. :)

Okay I know the Black Album gets a lot of flak from "Hardcore" Metallica fans (At least the people that I've talked to about it that call themselves such.) But I think it was an incredible turning point in their career.

Master of Puppets gets my vote.

Don't really care about this whole hate the popular and non-early Metallica albums thing going around. Like I'm going to REALLY give two sh!ts that they changed their sound a bit or that they "sold out." Far as I'm conerned their music has continued to rock from the start to where it's at now.
