ya ik depends on the folks. they're those type of people who don't think its gonna be **** so i'll probably end up staying where i'm at despite it possibly being a cat 4 hurricane :\

I heard 5 this morning.
That is a big deal.
We had Cat. 4 here once and everything was just gone.

Don't think you can ride it out. If at all possible, get your ass close to the center or as Akaymay said, go north. Lets not forget what happened to the folks of Katrina. If you decide to ride it out, then good luck.

If you are really worried about it, you could always get out of there, you have a week, take a vacation, so then you wont have to die! Thats what I would do. I've been hearing a lot about this hurricane, it keeps getting worse and worse, a category 4 hitting you wouldn't be good, that is for sure.

My advice would be to get out of there now, just you don't get caught in traffic. Even if you're folks don't want to leave, they shouldn't try and stop you from doing something in your best intrest.
But if you're stuck riding it out, best of luck.

omg, i can tell that you havnt been through many hurricanes huh?
dude i live in biloxi mississippi, about a block from the beach.... oh huh? you dont know where that is?
lemme just drop a name real quick... Katrina.
yeah, i live where Katrina hit dead on, we STILL have hardly anything left but were still alive. it wasnt that bad.
and yeah yours is a cat five but its no big deal, the great speed bump called cuba will dull it, and unless it just sits in the gulf building up again (not likely) then you shouldnt be TOO bad.
best bet is to go about an entire state up north, or as high as you can get. hurricanes are not something that you want to be in the middle of, and if you cant get out, then get to a shelter.

yeah thanks for the advice and kind words folks and if you would look in the op the pic updated and it looks to be a little less than a cat 5 thanks to the yucatan peninsula. and to the dude who said i haven't had any hurricanes, you're right. for like as long as i've lived here (majority of my life) we've been "threatened" with hurricanes and none came. looking at all the pics i seriously thought this was gonna be the one to FINALLY hit us, and apparently we're gonna get the top "half" of the hurricane which according to my friend is the worst while the majority is in mexico. that means i'll probably stay home and ride this sonna ***** out :\

Yeah, I'm in Florida too.. Ride that ***** out.. Unless you are right on the coast it will peter out by time it hits the middle.. Unlike tornados.. Hurricanes don't travel well over land.

ya i'm pretty safe now i think. if anything we're only gonna get a little bit. according to the pic in the op its gonna be a 2 when it makes landfall in mexico so if it does travel a bit north its not gonna be the beast everyone predicted it would be last week

Well, hurricanes are not something to bargain with, but as long as you have a sturdy home and are far away or decently so from any short of beach and are on high ground, you'll be fine if you choose to stay. Oh yeah, and an ass load of trees surrounding your house to block out the wind never hurt anyone.
I sat out Katrina myself, but I live a good ways inland. (north of Biloxi; I'm still in the same county, so not too far.) We had all the pluses I mentioned, so we came out peachy keen. Sitting there with no electricity for two weeks sucked, but I still count my blessings; at least we had our house and, more importantly, our lives.
Just to tell you, I've ridden out every hurricane that has come our way, so I like to think I somewhat know what I'm talking about. Oh, and, for a few comforting words, I don't think Dean is going to be anything like Camille was back in '69. I know I wasn't alive then, but any storm that has two hundred mile per hour winds and gusts much greater than that has got to be some kind of beast.
So, to sum up what I'm saying, I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck, friend, and be sure to stock up if you are riding it out.

Good luck bro, if you live that's a cool story to tell people. Plus I heard it's easy to steal during hurricanes ;) Just kidding.
