View Full Version : What's with the new signature limitations? I'm not happy.

So, I get online today to update my signature to add today's 3 tracks to my current total -- as I do every week -- and what do I see? This:
1. You have included 3 images in your message. You are limited to using 1 images so please go back and correct the problem and then continue again.
Images include use of smilies, the vB code [img] tag and HTML <img> tags. The use of these is all subject to them being enabled by the administrator.
2. Your signature can not be longer than 200 characters including BBCode markup.
What? What is that all about? When did that change? C'mon, 1 image? Yeah, I'm using 3... There's no way I can squeeze what I've got in my signature down to 200 characters including code markup.
Can we get an explanation for these new limitations? Did I miss the announcement?

Because not everybody wants to see your 5" long signature everytime you post. Keep it reasonable and you wouldn't have a problem.

Ok, I am behind midget on this one, but get this:
I went to put my DLC in my sig and my Gamertag, not unreasonable, right? So I put the names of my DLC (16 songs) and my Gamertag, and it said it must be under 200 characters.
So I started taking out words and shortening the titles of the songs, and kept pressing "preview sig" to see if it would work. I did this so many times that my sig was down to this:
GT - ForgottenHero33
DLC - Metallica, Black Sab, Jukebox, Sharona, AAR, Small Things, 3's + 7's, NOTB, We Care, Calling, Wonder, Sex Type, Ten Speed, Gimme
^^That is it, word for word. Now I press "Preview sig" and get this:
Your signature can not be longer than 150 characters excluding BB Code markup.
Now I agree with rules to keep this place tidy but this is very unreasonable. Under 150 characters is just sad, you really can't put much in your sig. I vote for sig guidelines, but lets make it reasonable please.

Because you can't teach good taste, you have to restrict the size of bad taste.
Thank God. Some people's signatures were insane. The second poster's in this thread takes up fully 1/4 of my browser window maximized. Putting all the DLC you've downloaded into your sig is unreasonable.

you siggy sucks the way it is now and you wanna subjected us to more lame graphics and text in it? I say if you want a big siggy they charge you for it...$59.99/month and keep you limited to the siggy crazy users forum only.

From what I could decipher:
A) No, I don't want to "subjected" you to anything more. I just want to update the weekly "DLC owned as of" part of my signature.
B) How the hell is a band's logo a "lame graphic"?
C) I say they should charge you for having no signature.
D) What the hell does that last sentence mean?

It's not 5 inches, and it is reasonable. And that 1 image thing? Yeah, I could find a pretty ridiculously long picture to add, just to prove a point. It doesn't matter what the limit is, people can still find a way to be "unreasonable."

I agree with the signature restrictions. I certainly am not a fan of pmp's sig nor anyone else's that resembles it. I want my forum pages to load quickly. I don't give a rat what is in your sig because I rarely take the time to look at them, unless your sig is a big reason why it takes a forum page forever to load. Nor do I want to scroll down 6" to get past your sig to read the next post. Nor do I enjoy when you have posted 3 or 5 times in a page.

Thank you sir. My thoughts exactly.

Turn signatures off if you rarely look at them. The forums still accommodate your wishes, so of course you're happy.
Besides, I didn't make this thread because I want to know who's a fan of my signature. I don't care. Just like if I were to tell you I don't like yours, you wouldn't care.

Frederf, I again want to stress that I am FOR sig guidelines. I really hate when people have huge sigs. But this is word for word what I wanted in my sig and it was too big:
GT - ForgottenHero33
DLC - Metallica, Black Sab, Jukebox, Sharona, AAR, Small Things, 3's + 7's, NOTB, We Care, Calling, Wonder, Sex Type, Ten Speed, Gimme
That would take up less than your sig! (Mine would have 3 lines while yours takes up 4, not disrespecting your sig at all, simply trying to prove a point) I don't think it should be THAT strict, I firmly believe in rules, but ^^^ that is barely anything compared to others sigs.

there should also be tighter restrictions on image size
more limits are good, stupid gigantic sigs are bad.
Also I have the best sig in the world.

We don't want to see your huge siggy. Is that hard to understand? It's overkill now and you're crying its not enough. It should be limited more so siggy spammers like yourself aren't flooding the boards with crap. We don't need to see your entire life in a siggy, learn some net etiquette and think about the other people here also. Some might be on dialup internet and a person like you with a huge siggy lags their connection very bad. First off all posting most of what you have posted isn't even allowed cause it is copywrite infringement. We also have no need to see nor do we care about your DLC or anyone elses DLC, we have our own which is the same you have. There are threads about DLC it is also located on the marketplaces, we don't need to see it in a siggy. To be honest with you when I see users with extremly large siggys I ignore them cause they usually offer nothing good to the boards other than posting to get a higher post count and then adding that in their siggy also.

We changed the limitation yesterday in the interest of readability. Sorry for the confusion.

Who are you to say that? Your signature is now more than two times longer than the new limitations allow. It's 200 characters including markup. Your links alone take up that many characters, nevermind the visible text and markup codes.
And whether or not your signature is helpful or useful to people is irrelevant, so don't even bother bringing that up.

It's perfectly plausible that they over-corrected the signature limits and now they are too small. However that doesn't negate the fact a lot of signatures before were beyond huge and gaudy. "A picture of your band logo" is wrong when it's freaking 500x900px.
Pictures or anything eye-catching can certainly make a normal signature "too much" visually. Honestly I'm not super-smug about the size of mine. I don't need the personal line in there and I could easily make a lot of that stuff on a lesser number of lines. 3 lines of green flashing text and animated gifs are certainly worse for readability than 4 lines of plain text that is well formatted.

I can understand the limitations on teh signature. I've been in other gaming forums only to have these huge signatures at the end of each message. It does get aggravating.
Speaking of which, I'm trying to just get my gamercard as a signature, is that possible? If so, how?

Create a blog entry. (http://www.rockband.com/node/add/rocker_blog_entry) Add a link to the blog with something like "Click here to see my DLC (http://www.rockband.com/rockers_blog_entry/laconic/233733)". If anyone really cares what DLC you have, they will click the link. To get a link go to your rockers main page after you add the blog entry. The title of the blog entry on that page will link directly to the blog. If it's still too long, use a website like tinyurl (http://tinyurl.com/) to make it shorter.
