Welcome, Introductions, and Crap Like That
Welcome to the Rock Band forums, you are a n00b (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newbie), we eat n00bs for breakfast, so to avoid said fate this guide has been created to help you. Let's begin...
Introduction:
The forums are broken down into 9 boards:
-Announcements (http://www.rockband.com/vbforum/forumdisplay.php?f=5): The is where our local Bostonian Sean gives us the lowdown on intern marinating sauces, cramped office space, and his rad little cousin (and some announcements when he's in the mood). Only Harmonix employees post but anyone can reply.
...+Description: Look for breaking announcements from Harmonix here.
- Rock Band (http://www.rockband.com/vbforum/forumdisplay.php?f=6): Perhaps the birthplace of the Rock Band n00b (mmm...breakfast) this is where we discuss (almost) all things Rock Band. If your question is not answered here but is painfully obvious search FIRST (http://www.rockband.com/vbforum/search.php)! Otherwise ask away.
...+Description: The place to talk about the game and features for the game.
-Your Ultimate Setlist (http://www.rockband.com/vbforum/forumdisplay.php?f=9): Personally I consider this the Rock Band equivalent of System Wars (packed with whiny, *****y, fanboys) but your fate is your own. This is for both suggesting songs and putting together your own setlist of coolness (TM). As a warning from a Jedi to a Padawan My Chemical Romance suggestions lead to hate and more hate. This leads only to the dark side.
...+Description: Want to suggest a song for Rock Band? Think you can put together the best rock setlist ever?
-Band Wanted (http://www.rockband.com/vbforum/forumdisplay.php?f=17): Like an online dating service this is your one stop shop for companionship (minus the whores and jerks who only marry you for your money). This is where you can find cool/halfway decent Rock Band guitarist, drummers, bassist, and singers to join your rockin' legion of pwnage! Or if you're looking for a band to follow, not lead (responsibility is overrated), you can advertise your shizzles (that's skills you perv).
...+Description: Looking to put a band together? Post in here.
-History of Rock (http://www.rockband.com/vbforum/forumdisplay.php?f=7): Damn you love rock. But your girlfriend is hooked on Linkin Park (not rock), your dad on Love (not rock), and your mom on Bonnie Raitt (see: hell and no). Where does a man with refined taste as yours go to find sanctuary? HERE! Come to discuss the past, present and future of rock.
...+Description: Wanna talk about rock? Wanna prove you know your bands? Wanna talk about some band you just got into? Yeah...here.
-Album Reviews (http://www.rockband.com/vbforum/forumdisplay.php?f=3): Those with the attention span of a poodle be damned. This is where we get serious (provided you people stop butchering the God-given english language). As the name states this is the place to review albums. Be warned reviews are often for informing people right? Of awesome thing right? So be wary of bias.
...+Description: Milli Vanilli stole it.
-Upcoming Shows (http://www.rockband.com/vbforum/forumdisplay.php?f=8): Concert in town and everyone should know? Your band, local band, any band let us know! Because we care. Well not enough to go but hey we care!
...+Description: Promote your real life band and get some heads to your next show. You know, besides your mom.
-General (http://www.rockband.com/vbforum/forumdisplay.php?f=4): For all else go here. This typically where 'teh kewl kidz' hang out. Straight up anarchy G. We dizcuzz life, zome new YouTube video, Legoz, other gamez, etc. Becuaze that'z how we roll.
...+Description: This is where all off-topic conversations should go. Probably not very rock.
Other Crap:
So you know the boards, you should have read the rules (http://www.rockband.com/vbforum/announcement.php?f=6), but here are some parting words:
*Be considerate: I'm sarcastic I know but unless you're asking for it I won't pour on the flames and neither should you!
*Respect others taste: Pretty self-explainatory.
*Spam, bad: Spam kills, like, 784,372.003 forums a year. This won't be one of them. Spam and you're gone.
*Speaka da engrish: This ain't the GameSpot forum. We don't speak 1337 (well I do but I can't speak for anyone else). Please write in clear english.
*No rumors: If it ain't confirmed don't say it is.

Questions, Answers, Pop-Tarts, and Fish
Your Questions Answered (sort of)
First please check the official FAQ (http://www.rockband.com/index.php?do=/public/content/file_faq/dir_language/).
Now imagine a fish and a Brown Sugar Pop-Tart. Got it? Good. Now I am the fish and you, the n00b, are the Pop-Tart. The FAQ didn't answer your question so here I am!
Pop-Tart (PT): Is it true that the 360 bundled guitar will be wired? And PS3 wireless? Lame sauce I say!
Fish of Awesomeness (FA): YES! AGREED! The 360 bundle will have a wired Strat with a wireless sold seperately at a higher cost than the wired obviously. This is due to the strict regulations and requirements for 360 wireless products. All PS3 guitars are wireless.
PT: I heard World Tour is only available locally and not on Xbox Live or PlayStation Network? What the hell? Can I at least play with one player?
FA: Yes sadly Harmonix just couldn't pull such a large task off. While competitive and quick play are supported online Band World Tour is not and yes it still does require two players meaning you either need to play an instrument and sing or find at least one more friend. Sean has promised the team will look into it and may patch the game in the future.
PT: But wait...doesn't the 360 only have like 3 USB ports?
FA: Alex confirmed a sweet lusty USB hub will be packed in with the major bundle.
PT: Soo...wireless is still available?
FA: Yes for both 360 and PS3. It is not a matter of a wireless being available but will a wireless be bundled. Which it is not. Even still you can use the (opinion in factual work alert!) craptacular Guitar Hero III Les Paul.
PT: Can I just buy the game itself? I'd rather suck all the Rock Bandness out of it and only play guitar.
FA: Err...sure.
PT: Okay well I suck at singing and...
FA: I KNOW! That's why you can turn your voice down and the singers above yours. THANK GOD!
PT: What about online competitive?
FA: Well a instrument v. instrument mode is there for off and online. Full on band v. band is not. Apparently that'd be TOO awesome.
PT: What songs are in the game exactly?
FA: Check this slick list of steamy lust (http://community.rockband.com/vbforum/showthread.php?t=3655) for the scoop.
PT: What about cross system play?
FA: You're kidding right? This would require Microsoft and Sony to partner and make one large, intersecting, server farm. That's called peace and is nonexistent in the real world.
PT: What if I don't want a band? What if I just wanna rock with random 11-342 years olds online?
FA: Online Quick Play. Jump in, find some players to jam with, pick a song, pick an instrument, pick a difficulty, rock on.
PT: Can you really download albums?
FA: Albums and individual songs. Including individuals songs from the available albums.
PT: I have an idea for Rock Band...
FA: Uhh....that goes in the idea thread (http://www.rockband.com/vbforum/showthread.php?t=277).
PT: Hey what are the higher frets for?
FA: They can be used for solos both freeform and song embedded. It works like this: When a solo for guitar or bass comes up the fretboard changes with all kinds of artsy what-not and a little Solo progression notifier pops up telling you the percentage of notes hit as you play. From here until the end of that solo you may move down to the higher frets and play without strumming. For freeform footage check out the playing of Paranoid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYbj5oR4VFA) at exactly 3:11.
PT: Can I suggest a song here?
FA: You didn't read the intro did you? Please use the Ultimate Setlist Forum for all song-related suggestions/discussions.
PT: So how do drummers and singers activate their star power equivalent (Overdrive)?
FA: At certain freeform sections if singers sing (scream like asses) loud enough they activate their Overdrive. For drummers it's hitting a certain green note at the end of a freeform fill.
PT: So it's not called Star Power?
FA: No it's called Overdrive.
PT: Mommy got me a Wii. Is Rock Band available for Wii?
FA: Alex has said "Absolutely!" (http://au.wii.ign.com/articles/777/777553p1.html) That's basically it. It is coming but is farther off that PS3 or 360. Wii owners need to hold out for next year and see what more Harmonix has to say.
PT: Can I use my Mii?
FA: Did you not just read the first Wii related question? What are you iliterate? Why am I even wasting me time on you PEOPLE!?! GOD DAMMIT!!!......Okay had a little episode. Sorry. Okay we don't know quite yet.
PT: Hey are Gibsons or any other guitars besides Fenders gonna make the cut?
FA: Gibsons are exclusively to Guitar Hero and RedOctane the publisher. While no official list (other than the Stratocaster, duh) has been given Fender owns a slew of brands.
*Squier
*Gretsch
*Jackson Guitars
*Charvel
*Tacoma
*Guild Guitar Company
*SWR Sound Corporation
*Brand X
*Orpheum
*Olympia
*Fender (The DUH! award goes to anyone who I tricked tricked into finishing this whole list)
PT: Can I sing and play an instrument too?
FA: Yes and no. With a headset or proper mic stand yes but you will still be represented as 2 players (which in my opinion is awesome).
PT: So how much will this cost and when can I pick it up?
FA: CONGRATULATIONS!!! WE HAVE AN ANSWER!!! IT'S $169.99 AND REALESES ON NOVEMBER 20TH!!!! INDIVIDUAL INSTRUMWENTS WITH THE GAME CAN BE FOUND HERE (http://www.gamestop.com/search.asp?Ntk=TitleKeyword&Ntx=mode%2Bmatchallpartial&Ntt=Rock+Band&N=0&find.x=0&find.y=0&find=Search)!!!

Hello, This is your friendly neighborhood moderator Apples, here to add some insight to this wonderful sticky thread.
A few pressing questions that keep getting asked post Rock Band launch.
Why do I keep getting the same repeat songs in Band World Tour mode?
Band World Tour pulls from your "pool" of unlocked songs. If your pool is small, you will get a lot of repeats until you increase its size. There are numerous ways to do this: 1. Take a character through a full single player career to unlock songs in succession 2. Buying DLC song tracks adds them instantly to your pool of songs 3. Keep playing your Band World Tour career, and unlocking new venues/songs.
How do gold stars work?
Gold stars are no longer based on 100% notes hit. They are based on exceptional score. So it is possible to get 100% with bad overdrive usage and not get a gold star. Conversely, with good overdrive usage you can make a mistake or two and still get a gold star. Gold stars are only attainable in expert difficulty. For multiplayer, all band members must be on expert.
Where is Welcome To The Jungle? I saw it in a video.
That song was shown at a trade show as a prototype to demonstrate Rock Band. It was never intended to be publicized and was never licensed to be in Rock Band. Conceivably, the developers could change their minds and add it later, but for now it is not on the disc.
Where are the HATS in the character builder?
Hats appear under the "hairstyles" portion of the character builder, and are only available in the shop. You cannot get a hat hairstyle during the initial character creation. Please note that you are charged money every time you change the hat/hairstyle/color, so choose wisely.
How do I download songs?
There is no direct link in the game for purchasing songs, you must use your console's dashboard interface. For example, under Xbox live you'd go to the Marketplace blade, find Rock Band under the games, and select tracks for purchase. Please note that songs are listed both as singles and bundles in the same list, read the descriptions carefully to insure you purchase the correct download.
How does overdrive/scoring work in multiplayer?
When you activate overdrive in multiplayer, it will not instantly double your personal multipler like you would see in single player. Instead, it adds 2x to the band multiplier, seen at the top right corner next to the star indicator.
This band multiplier gives bonus scoring to all bandmates while active. These band multipliers can be stacked if multiple players activate overdrive at once. For example, player A activates initiating a 2x band-wide multiplier. Player B follows suit, adding another 2x to the band multiplier. Conceivably, players C and D could also activate, bringing the band-wide multiplier to 8x.
This band-wide multiplier is taken times your personal multiplier to determine your true scoring. For example, a bassist in the groove at 6x with a 4x band multiplier is actually scoring at 24x !!! (6x personal times 4x band-wide)
Where is the Rock Band Wii version?
THERE IS NO OFFICIAL WORD ABOUT ROCK BAND ON THE WII. STOP ASKING ABOUT IT.
What does the blue dot next to a song mean in the setlist?
This is used to indicate that the selected track comes from the "Bonus" setlist. Along these same lines, an arrow icon next to a song in the setlist indicates it is a downloaded track.
DLC: Where are the Who's Next / Nevermind Albums?
According to press releases, Who's Next is sleighted to be the first full album download on Rock Band. No specific timetable has been given when it will be launched, simply that it will be the first of it's kind. With a DLC content schedule posted for the duration of 2007, one would speculate the release to be early 2008 at the soonest.
DLC: Should I be concerned with disc space as my song library grows?
Right now, 3 packs of songs are clocking in slightly over 100 MB, singles have been seen anwhere from 20 to 30 MB depending on the length of the track. While these files are generally very managable in size, it is something to be mindful of when considering your console and hardware purchases.

This way we can have a rule against those threads and whenever we get some really active mods around here we can have instant lockage and possible suspensions for too many warnings. This gives everybody one less excuse.
Okay now to finish the FAQ.

Great guide well put together.. just a quick question in your vid section you say Welcome to the jungle is not in the game.. has this been confirmed By HMX as far as i was aware it just appeared in GH3 and nothing else was said about it for Rock band i know it's not in the list so far but we still have 20 plus tracks left to be announced.

Sean said that Welcome to the Jungle was not in the current plans because they hadn't gotten rights to it. They used the song to test the game very early on.
As you can see they didn't even have Strats. It was very early.
It is said (unofficial though) that when Slash signed with GHIII he took the GnR tracklist with him. That's why Welcome to the Jungle is in GHIII not Rock Band. Anything can and may change in the future.

Might want to add a little reminder that the 360 does support USB hubs that you can get for $2, and any number (well, 127) of things can be plugged into it, and it works with existing wired controllers so there's no reason why the instruments wouldn't work with it.

The hub needs to be powered, but otherwise any externally-powered off-the-shelf USB hub will do.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned with regards to a double bass pedal for drums (forgive me if it has). But it may help clarify things for 'n00bs'.
The subject has been done to death, I know, and I aim to clear it up, once and for all. Which is why I included it in this thread.
Surely, the way I understand it, a double bass pedal (assuming it is a single foot one, since professional drummers usually want the other foot free for hi-hat) requires less footwork, because as you 'kick' down it gives two beats as opposed to just one. Example: http://theduallist.com/images/doubleplay.jpg
Now if you consider that the RB drum kit only features the pedal part and no actual bass drum to be struck, there is no problem: http://uk.media.xbox360.ign.com/media/879/879549/img_4694119.html
Therefore, there is no need for a double bass pedal, just the game recognising that 1 kick down = 2 bass beats.
Am I correct in this assumption?

Am I correct in this assumption?
People are referring to something like this:
http://www.dagexpress.com/incEngine/sites/dagexpress/products/dw/dw9002.jpg
Also, the argument is to have the second pedal be used for hi-hat on occasion as well.

True. That's an alternate add-on, that may work.
I was just pointing out that a double bass pedal accessory isn't necessary to play those parts in the game.

True enough, but I'm still guessing for the guide, the point should be this: Don't beat a dead horse, and we've already made glue from the double bass pedal.

Xzy, in light of new announcements, I think info on the Ps2 version should be added in.
There's been a good amount of threads being made with people asking if it's true and when it's coming out, etc.
Q & A examples could include
Is there really a Ps2 version?
When will it come out?
What are the differences?
Is there DLC and online play?
Just a suggestion :)

Interesting point.
Thanks. Maybe mention it in the opening post? Just so people aren't getting their knickers in a twist (panties in a bunch) over how the game will accomodate double bass pedal parts.
Marty McFly had some pretty good points regarding the PS2 version as well.
Also, with regards to this question:
PT: Hey what are the higher frets for?
FA: From what little use of them we've seen they're for freeform as can be seen during the playing of Paranoid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYbj5oR4VFA) at exactly 3:11.
This video should clear things up a bit more as well as serving as a good introduction: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWi5LztWB30
Basically, the higher frets don't need to be strummed, and allow for finger-tapping and such. I realise you probably knew this already, but felt it should be added into the opening bit.

Because I'm still hoping that my character will sing and play the guitar at the same time!!
Oh, yeah, and where is it said that the mic is plugged into the controller? I mean, yeah, you can also sing with the headset, which is plugged into the controller, but I never heard that the actual mic will also be plugged into the controller.

Here are some definitions of commonly used acronyms here.
FTW means "for the win." You would use this if you like something. Example: Boston Red Sox FTW!.
FTL means "for the lose." You would use this for something you don't like. Example: Gasmasks FTL.
LOL obviously means "laugh out loud."
FC means "full combo." This is a phrase used in relation with Guitar Hero, meaning your note streak is the same as the total notes in the song. Example: "It's gonna be really hard to FC Jordan on Expert mode."
"LMAO" means "laugh my ass off."
Here are some other helpful tips.
To put a picture in your sig, this is what you do:
Go to Photobucket
click on the picture you want, please have it at a reasonable size.
Highlight the HTML tags on the right, right click the highlighted text, hit "copy"
Go to your User Control Panel on this forum
Go to "Edit Signature"
Right click the area that says "headline"
Click "paste"
Viola! You now have a picture in your sig.

1. It's not stated. But just think about for a second. Toss the mic on a mic stand. Now, you have yourself standing there. Mic in front of you, guitar around your shoulder. You log in to play Band quickplay co-op (this is official that you only need 2 or more players to do so) Player 1 will be the guitarist, you. Now, Player 2 (also controlled by you) is the singer. The computer doesn't magically know this is the same person, because you have to press start on 2 controllers basically. So, when the song begins, it will show Player 1 guitar, and Player 2 vocals, thus, you are playing as 2 people. Voila!
2. The mic has been seen to plug into the Xbox controller in several videos. Mainly the Gamespot 40minute video. Search YouTube for E3 Gamespot Rock Band, you'll find it. I can't tell you when exactly you'll notice, but keep looking.

Well, but it's not impossible. I mean, it could work like this: When you are in the menue, where you choose which instrument you play there probably are the options "guitar", "bass", "drums" and "vocals". There simply have to be a few more options, "guitar + vocs" or even (don't need that though) "bass + vocs", "drums + vocs". So, and if someone chooses "Guitar + vocs" then, of course there only can be 3 players and none of the other two players can play guitar or vocals, they can only choose between drums and bass now.
It's as simple as that. Why should'nt this be possible? That would be so awesome, I mean, I just want it to be as realistic as possible. So, no, I don't want to play two characters, I want to see my character play the guitar and sing at the same time!!

I think it's even simpler than that: when you go to select characters for instruments, if the same one is picked they do both.
Question is: did they bother to motion-cap instrumentalist singers? Probably not, so I'll just accept that when I pull a Geddy Lee I will be two people.

PT: What about online competitive?
FA: Well a instrument v. instrument mode is there for off and online. Full on band v. band has not been confirmed or denied. Stay tuned.
Denied in the OXC Interview (http://community.rockband.com/vbforum/showthread.php?t=4395). No band vs. band directly, just competing indirectly through online standings by maintaining your band's world tour.
Oh, yeah, and where is it said that the mic is plugged into the controller? I mean, yeah, you can also sing with the headset, which is plugged into the controller, but I never heard that the actual mic will also be plugged into the controller.

It makes sense that this should be true, and it looks like it in the videos to me... but I was just wondering if we actually had any official confirmation yet? Recent interviews seem to imply that the mic gets plugged into the console as well. In the OXC Interview (http://community.rockband.com/vbforum/showthread.php?t=4395) Alex says that you "need a controller plugged in as well" for the mic player to control on screen stuff. If the mic plugged into the bottom of a controller, wouldn't this be the perfect spot to state that? And the Wired article (http://www.wired.com/gaming/gamingreviews/magazine/15-10/mf_harmonix?currentPage=1) also has wording suggesting that it's just plugged in like the rest of the instruments:
These faux instruments, as well as the microphone, are all plugged into an Xbox 360.
Not that I trust Wired to word things properly... but combined with that interview with Alex, I'm wondering if there has been anything official yet.
Short of official... I'm assuming that people who have played the tour demos have seen the mic actually plugged into the controller? I haven't read any accounts of this, but it seems like someone would have made mention if they noticed it wasn't.

from rodth over at the official guitar hero forums:
3. How is the functionality of the PS3 Les Paul wireless for the older Guitar Hero games (released on PS2)?
Correction: The new PS3 Les Paul wireless controller will NOT work at all with any of the Playstation2 Guitar Hero titles when played on the PS3. We suggest that you keep your PS2 console around to play the older PS2 Guitar Hero games. Using a PS2-to-PS3 USB adapter, GH1 will work on the PS3 using either the SG or the original PS2 wireless guitar.

Well, I was thinking that either Neversoft/Red Octane didn't want to make it work, or that Harmonix didn't want to let Neversoft/Red Octane the guitar work with their previous games. I thought that for someone to make a game-specific controller, they have to go through the developer and ask for the specific specs and permission to create it. I figured that Harmonix didn't give Neversoft/Red Octane the permission.

Rock Band is compatible with any guitar right off the bat. Originally, with Guitar Hero, it was Activision and RedOctane putting pressure on excluding third party controllers. Now that Harmonix can do their own thing they've made Rock Band free for use with any guitar, including the Les Paul.

But I'm pretty sure Harmonix can make the Strat work with the previous games. I guess we'll find out if and when a PS3 release is sent out.

Its in the interests for the other company to do it, if their rival is as well, otherwise the hardware sale swould have been won already.

It's also interest for the other company to do it if their rival isn't as well. Backwards compatability is a selling point.

Well since the Rock Band Strat is basically a glorified controller, I think it is a very good chance it will be able to play GH I and II and 80s on your PS3, at least I hope it can.

For the FAQ, may I add how to distinguish a guitar solo section (At least for the demo version on tour)?
When there is a solid blue background behind your notes (not the wavy/swirly blue background that covers the lower half, which I believe were Bass Grooves), that is when you know you can get into a solo and use the "higher frets" without the need to strum.
When you notice it going back to completely black/blank, resume strumming.
If any clarification is needed, I will be happy to help as I can. Hope this helps! :)

That doesn't help at all whatsoever. Alot of people want to get rid of their PS2 and move the games to the PS3, not have another guitar to play on the PS2. Unless you mean something different that piece of information is worthless to alot of people who want the guitar to play GH 1,2,80's on the PS3 not on the PS2.

You can see the info on GameSpot's article (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/puzzle/rockband/news.html?sid=6180056&om_act=convert&om_clk=newlyadded&tag=newlyadded;title;1). Their information came directly from Harmonix.
Unfortunately, as it was mentioned, this doesn't help the people that want to ditch their PS2. The problem there lies not with Harmonix, but with Sony. The PS3 is pretty shaky on backwards compatibility. As of now Guitar Hero I and II for the PS2 don't work properly. This iis mostly related to the controller I believe, so the knowledge that the PS3 controller will work with the PS2 game tells us that there is a pretty good chance that you can use it to play the Guitar Hero games on your PS3.
That's the way that I see it. Unfortunately, you're not likely going to get an official word on this from Harmonix since they're not working on Guitar Hero anymore.

- Price has been revealed
- Star Power is now called Overdrive I believe
Keep up the good work!

To reiterate:
PT: So how do drummers and singers activate their Overdrive?
FA: At certain freeform sections if singers sing (scream like asses) loud enough they activate their Overdrive. For drummers it's hitting a certain note at the end of a break.
PT: So how much will this cost and when can I pick it up?
FA: The special edition bundle is $169.99* available on Nov.23rd in the U.S. Other countries' release dates and prices undetermined at this time.
*You can add in individual prices for each peripheral, but I was too lazy to add that info in.

PT: How many bands can I be in?
FA: Nothing's official right now. We do however know you can lead multiple bands.
I was just re-reading the awesomeness of the guide. I can't wait for the game! But I noticed you can update the answer to this question:
IGN: How does band membership work? We know that you can "substitute" into a band. Does that affect anything at all? And can you have a character that's part of multiple bands?
Teasdale: When you create a band, you're designated as the "leader" of that band. Besides naming the band and making a logo, the leader can recruit new people into the "permanent lineup" of the band. This lineup is what shows up in leaderboads when you view information about a band, and also in some cool community features that we'll be announcing really soon.
Substituting allows new players to play with a band without being considered part of the "official" lineup. This is really useful for when you're recruiting new band members - they can play a few sets with the band, and then if you like them you can have them join the band as a full time member!
Each character you create can lead up to 10 bands, and also be a member of 10 more.

For your signature (like my gamercard-esk thing) there is, seemingly, no limit in size, just don't be obnoxious is my only suggestion.
For your avatar (by your name) the limit is 220px X 220px, but it'll be scaled down to half that size when shown in the forums.

I was thinking about having this thing where people can vote for your favorite bands and albums that they would like to see as DLC under the Your Ultimate Setlist forum.
I did it once already, but the thread just keeps falling into the lost pages of that forum. It's a shame because I find it to be a good idea, and I also find it useful for HMX. I don't know if the idea of this thread will work. People tend to devote entire topics to an artist/band, and then discuss the pros and cons. I am not sure that one centralized thread would be adequate to handle the mass and volume of opinions it would generate. Plus, it would likely be difficult to maintain due to the vast number of artists.
Devoting an entire forum just for song discussions seems the proper course. It allows people to create and discuss bands in a much more granular fashion. For example, one of the more amusing recent threads there was a poll where 100% of respondents wanted a Rush DLC pack. Besides the poll, there were pages of discussion on the preferred tracks that people wanted. All of that would be difficult to shoehorn into one sticky with threads from 100 other bands.
And I won't being to relay how remarkable it was to see 50+ people in that forum all in 100% agreement that they liked a band. It just never happens.

Basically grab your controller and enter in your vocalist as another player. You're going to kind of have to play the role of two people.

PT: Can I sing and play an instrument too?
FA: Yes and no. With a headset or proper mic stand yes but you will still be represented as 2 players (which in my opinion is awesome).

I'm gonna pretend you didn't quote that entire post, as well as answer your question (I'm such a nice guy, right?).
Answer:
Aside from the current list (<a href= "http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/marketplace/r/rockband/songpacks.htm">here</a>), it has been announced that The Who's "Who's Next?" album as well as Nirvana's "Nevermind" album will be available eventually (despite the promise of "Who's Next?" the first week on various occasions).
EDIT: Upon seeing that was your first post, I'm taking it upon myself to welcome you do the RockBand.com forums, armad! It's nice to see that a new user, like yourself, actually read the stickies before posting.

Can you please clarify this statement:
"Even still you can use the (opinion in factual work alert!) craptacular Guitar Hero III Les Paul."
That works on the 360 only, and that's completely unclear in that context.

Nate, I'd like to point out that Xzyliac wrote a good majority (if not all) of this FAQ in or around August. But it is a good point that this should be updated, which I believe Xzyl is working on an updated version currently.
