View Full Version : Offer Bass Solo Tour as DLC

There has been a lot of talk on the forums about the lack of a Solo Tour for the bass, with the reason given that people just wouldn't be interested in it. It has been expressed otherwise. I know personally that I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to do the bass solo tour until looking up online that it wasn't there. I know I'm not alone in this. There are some dry songs early on but as it goes on there are certainly some enjoyable and challenging songs in the game. A solo tour gives you a consolidated place with all your scores and stars as an experience that just going through solo quickplay doesn't offer.

I propose then that the tour should be something that can added as DLC. Think bass would be boring? Don't download it! Been aching for the opportunity to take your character through another career on the low end? There you go! To spice it up though and really make it a draw, include some songs with the tour that really emphasize the bass play and work them into the tour. These can be exclusive to the bass tour pack (maybe offered down the road outside of the Bass Tour DLC) to encourage pick up. Offer 3 songs plus the Bass Tour at like 9.99 (800 MS points) and I'm sure a lot of people would be picking it, especially if the songs are good. I'd suggest more Rush, something like Freewill or if you want to go more obscure (but awesome!) the title track of Geddy Lee's solo release My Favorite Headache. I'm sure other forum posters could put sugggest some sweet 3 packs of bass-centric songs.

Anyone on board with this?

I would LOVE a Bass Solo tour. I have always loved playing the Bass and is sad to always see it left out. I think this also should be included, but I would consider paying $10 for it, but not a penny more really. Whenever I play online, i always love playing Bass since you cant play it other wise... So if HMX is reading this, please consider a DLC Solo Bass tour

I'm also in the boat of wondering where Bass tour is - for some weird reason like some people above I prefer to play bass, can't really explain why... maybe it's the quasi beat keeping similar to drums.

Anyways, I don't think we should have to pay for it at all and it would take some serious consideration if it would be worth the money to do a solo career on Bass for money.

Nope.

I wouldn't pay for this feature. It should come as a patch, not an "add-on" that you need to pay money to use.

I've seen a lot of games where developers omitted key features and released them later in a paid expansion (like spacecraft in Star Wars Galaxies!).

I would object to the idea of paying for a Bass Solo Tour when all the other instruments got it. Right now, as a PS2 user, that's immaterial (and if they made an expansion disc now I'd hope it would also have any online patches in it) but eventually I'll be upgrading to a 360 and hopefully by then we'll have the option.

Bass solo tour isnt on the game because most people think the bassest would rather be the guitarist but isnt good enough.
I pefer oto play the bass. I played bass for years in garage bands.
I was never good enough to play guitar.;)

A great idea, I would definitely pay for it!
It would be pretty bad for PS2 owners though...

I also wanted a solo bass tour and was disappointed when I found out there was none.
I’d rather have the solo bass tour as a patch or add-on than to pay for it; as mentioned earlier, it should have been available from the start.

Agreed; I prefer playing the bass parts myself, and got somewhat ticked off about there not being a bass solo tour (instead trying as best I could to recreate it through Quick Play, but it's not really the same, you know?). Oh well.

Well I definitely think that there should be a bass solo tour in the game. Personally I agree that it should be a free download, but I also have to admit that I would consider paying for it if the price were low enough. There are a number of reasons why it would be good to have the bass tour.

1) It might give those of us who struggle at the higher levels on drums/guitar/vocals something to feel good about.

2) Some people actually like to play bass. Think of all the bass players already out there.

3) It can help with the BWT as well. I imagine many bands fall into rather regular instrumental lineups (Todd on mic, Tim on Drums, etc.) Having a bass tour can help the bassist work on his skills to in turn help the band. Sure, he can do so through quickplay, but its not the same, and he can't earn $ and swag through quickplay.

Anyway, hopefully they come to their senses and provide an option. I feel that it should be free, but as I said, I might be willing to pay a few bucks for it.

I hate. hate. HATE that theres no bass tour. I would buy that patch but it upsets me that it wasn't originally included. Some people think bass would be boring ? well, some people think vocals are boring. and others dislike the drums. I don't get why bass is left out! yeah it's another guitar but like if you really like guitar, the only thing you do after beating expert is try to gold star. this isn't bad dont get me wrong but an addition like bass solo tour would give us all another guitar-like venture! not to mention bass kicks ass and isn't that simple, you're gunna have to have a lot of long streaks with that x6 to get gold stars i'd have a feeling. i'd scoop this up in a second.

i prefer to play bass or guitar. bass is more fun, like working man and ten speed...

I see the Solo Tour as a way to unlock songs. Once I've unlocked them it's off to Quick Play to enjoy playing the song at whatever difficulty and instrument I want. With that said as well as being a bassist, I don't really see the need for a Bass Solo Tour. The only thing I would like to see is being able tho choose what character I play with in Quick Play.

I'm all for the Bass Solo tour. Shouldn't be too hard to add as a patch given that nearly 100% of the functionality is already in the game. Some of the songs have awesome bass lines, so bass shouldn't be seen as the poor man's guitar.

I would gladly pay upto $25 for bass in band world tour. bring it on harmonix!

All the songs have already been translated for bass. It would be a simple change/patch to the program and should have been included since day one.

I would like to see a FREE patch to add Bass solo tour. I perfer to play guitar but I still like playing bass but I wouldn't pay for something that should have been in the game to start with.

It's stupid that they didn't include the bass tour because harmonix expects people to play bass in bands. So if anyone wants to practice their bass for band play, they can only do it in quickplay. Also, I know a lot of people who like to play bass specifically, and by limiting the solo gameplay your'e screwing those consumers.

It doesn't really limit my solo play, I can and do play bass solo just fine via Quick Play. My only problem with Quick Play is not being able to choose a character but that doesn't really stop me from being able to practice bass for band play.

Here are some of my gripes about the lack of a Solo Bass Tour:

1) On quickplay, the difficulty is sorted for the guitar, not the bass.

2) I am not skilled enough to complete the Guitar Tour, but I think I would be able to complete the bass tour.

3) The lack of such a tour makes it feel as if HMX had the mentality of Dethklok in terms of the significance of the bass as an instrument.

Even though HMX said that something along the lines of the Bass parts not being exciting enough to warrant a solo tour, it still should have been implemented simply because the bass IS fun, even though it may not be on SOME songs. And, with all the DLC available and the DLC that will be released in the future, it would have totally made it worth it. AT LEAST to rack up some dough to purchase items for your character without having to rely on either A) doing BWT for money or B) Having to play the guitar tour.

I would like a Bass Solo Tour with some new Achievements. :) Free or pay is fine with me. I'm satisfied with the game I got for the price, so I don't feel like HMX owes me anything.

Some people think bass would be boring ? well, some people think vocals are boring. and others dislike the drums.

Exactly! Some people scorn the bass because it's "easier"... well, to me, vocals is "easier" than guitar - does that mean we should omit the vocal tour? for most people, guitar is "easier" than drums or vocals - should we omit the guitar tour too?

Bass is an essential part of a Rock Band - hence, the name of the game. There aren't many rock bands lacking a bassist. If you're just doing guitar and vocals, the name of the game would be "One Man Band", right? ;)

Bass deserves treatment equal to any other instrument in the game. That being said, on tracks that wouldn't be "interesting" enough for bass play, feel free to add rhythm guitar (one of the nice innovations that came to GH2).

I realize that I am no computer programmer, but it really seems as though it would not have required all that much work to include the Bass Solo Tour. You already have the note maps. The payout structure is already set since I believe each of the instruments gives you the same payout.

The only thing they would have to come up with is the free swag that is given out as you advance, and the difficulty order (since bass plays differently than guitar some songs may not be the same difficulty). But if they were in a pinch, they could have even given the same song progression as in guitar and I doubt too many people would have noticed.

Again though, more importantly, it would have been good for those people who only want to play the bass. At the moment, my wife is hesitant to play the guitar in Band Mode because she thinks it might be too difficult (she is only just now starting to play games). Being able to progress through a Bass Tour would give her that much more confidence to try out the guitar as well -- though I doubt I'll get her to do much with the drum kit. :p

In any event, I hope they include it -- perhaps when they put BWT online???

Hopefully they will release a patch. The other night I waited a half hour on bass score dual. It would give you 4 instruments to learn. I would love a bass solo career.
