Played the demo... then played it again.
I'm just, in wow, atm, and so seems are all the other game reviews. Its not a game, its art. And my money, which was going to the full Rock Band pack and Halo 3; I think £40 might just come out of it for it...
What you guys think on it?

I'm not buying any more games until Rock Band. =] I need all the money I can get, so yeah. I'm a broke High School student.. Haha.
I do want to try out BioShock, though..

i played the demo a couple times trying to get myself to like it but it just isnt happening. according to my friend my brain no longer works properly because i said the words "I played the demo and I didnt like it." It has some sweet graphics though.

everybody is either amazed or disappointed by the demo. i, personally, loved it. the two plasmids i found in the demo were fun to play around with and the 68 more in the full version are going to kick ass. i went to gamestop and reserved my copy yesterday.

was anyone else a little creeped out by the little girl sitting in the middle of the room singing?

Demo i thought was amazing, my only decision is whether to get it on PC or 360...either way The style is amazing and the graphics were mind blowing. Plus a game with a good story is nearly impossible to find now adays.

I see why people were disappointed. I was, at first, but then the second time around i realised how its like, art.
The way you get in the lift halfway through, the way you see the city, the way the totalitarian freak that is Andrew Ryan talks to you, the way the people are, the moral decision between killing the "Little Sisters" or saving them.
I mean, I expect GameSpot to be giving it, possibly, 10/10, or at LEAST 9.5 when the review comes out tomorrow.
But, it can be linear in where you go, because thats why you FEEL like you have become the protagonist, lonely in this world, and Atlas, the guy who helps you through it on the radio, seems a good match.
Its the proof that videogame became art. Anyone remember pressing UP for like 10 mins in Metal Gear Solid 3 after killing The End. It was, truly, fantastic.

that game is gunna be awsome. it creeped me out the first time cause i watched my friend play it, so it seemed like more of a movie than a game. then i played it and like it even more. so im definatly going to get it.

i need to play it a couple more times and see if it grows on me i guess. i definitely like the story and graphics it was just the gameplay that i was disappointed with. maybe another go or two will change my mind.

since ur a non-believer from the demo i say just wait two days and rent it. if the demo didn't do anything for you after the 3rd try it will never do anything for you. i know renting a game you possibly won't like for $8 is kinda ****ty but hey you never know, with the full game you might find the gameplay to be pretty damned great and u might have a new favorite game

yh for defo man. I forced myself to play again cos I thought "this hype and nothing, no way" as the FPS part doesnt hold up to the industry standards, but then on the second play you notice everything, you notice the world, it is amazing when you hear "I created... RAPTURE" and you see this gigantic city, but with serious problems.
Just... I wanna play on the demo again, but I dont wanna find myself bored for first 30 mins of the game cos ive played it over and over again on the demo :D

I agree with everyone most definitely on one thing though. It does feel like a movie I mean it just sucks you into the story right away.

Preordered the day I played the demo. The story and atmosphere was enough to suck me in. The gameplay didnt seem top notch but i'm sure that will change once you get some of the cooler plasmids and weapons

I'm not a FPS fan or been blown away by graphic but.....
This game is amazing. From the first game play (the water drops looked real) to middle of nightclub (only as far as I played, I had things to do), I was totally impressed.

For those interested it's best buy (assuming only in Canada) that's doing this.
The funny thing is the limited edition of the game is about $90 (and to the best of my knowledge, exclusive) at EB. So I guess this is BB's way of saying "well you 'can' buy Bioshock, a soundtrack CD, a 'making of' DVD and a Big daddy model from them or Bioshock and another fairly well reviewed First person adventure shooter for the same price from us."
Not going to flame The Darkness here, but my interest it waned fairly early in the game so I finally bit the bullet and pre-ordered Bio at EB (honestly mostly for the making of DVD and not at all for the Big Daddy)
But....
If I go to EB Tuesday and they tell me "Ohhhh sorry, we sold out of the limited edition already. How about the regular one?" I'll probably tell them "Ohhhh sorry, I'm just going to walk down the hall and around the corner and spend the same $100 and get 2 games or maybe I'll just buy the game I came for at the same price as it costs in the U.S. (BB selling for $60 CND to EBs $70-80 CND)
Wow sorry, that all seemed kind of rant-ish. Back to the OP's original topic.
Bioshock has been one of my "most anticipated games of 07" but I always kind of worried that the game was going to be to good to be true. One of those games that tries to be something new and special but then gets some little, but nagging, detail wrong.
Then I played the demo. The moment Ryan say his little "This is.... RAPTURE" as his film ends and the city is revealed I said, out loud (...to myself) "I'm buying this game" I couldn't have even cared if the combat was generic or flawed or even completely broken, I just felt that any team that could get the first few moments of the game so right would probably not completely lose it some where else.

Is EB seriously charging 10 bucks more than Best Buy? Stupidos. Dosent everyone know the Canadian and US dollar is pretty much the same now? Its bad enough I need to pay 14% tax
Thats just stupid. Ten or twenty dollars more for a game I eventually thought of buying anyways (or at leasy rent, which is ten dollars at Blockbusters anyways) is a steal.
Even if I hate the game (which I probably wont, those Riddick guys know how to make a game) its only $20 bucks and I can probably get that much by trading it in anyways.
Edit: I just checked and you can get like $27 for trading in the Darkness in Canadian EBs. So basically in worst case scenario, I lost 3 bucks.

I don't know for sure but I'm just speculating based on there track record with "big" titles like this, the high price of the LE and the fact that on the US EB site they say the prices difference is $10 for the standard 360 version and the LE ($60 and $70 respectively)
The Best Buy deal is pretty smart if you ask me. The Darkness is still fairly new, well reviewed and most importantly both games are more first person adventure games then just shooters (and I'm sure the publisher doesn't mind using one of it's game to help push the other)
I'm starting to reconsider my decision to pre-order the LE over the best buy BioDark deal... Wow... I haven't even played the game yet and it's already forcing me to make important decisions with significant repercussions.

I was pretty put off this after seeing gameplay footage (FPS leaves me for cold, generally speaking).. but the good reviews all across the board has got me a little tempted I'll admit.

I wasn't really reading anything much about bioshock. Read some stuff that was in GI or EGM (I forget which). Then I played the demo. Simply wow. It irked me off that I couldn't play on hard, because after watching the review on ign, the guy said, 'play the game on hard, the A.I. is better'. Then, I found out how to play on hard on the demo.
Simply, goto your profile on your xbox dashboard, options and game defaults. Select difficulty and put it on hard. Then go to the demo and when you press start it should be highlighted on hard. Those bastards are much more of a handful now.
I won't be able to get it this weekend, because of money issues. But I'm gonna get it for sure in the next 2 weeks. Maybe Gamestop will still have some of those LE games still when I have the money. I would love to have a Big Daddy.
Was anybody else eeried out when one of the sisters called her Big Daddy 'Mr. Bubbles'? I was like Dude WTF?!! Thats crazy!

It was a big surprise for me, but I think it helped me. I mean, for Harry Potter i read the story beforehand, and it just made me want to know the details more.
With Bioshock, I would have just looked for some sort of cheat cartridge, go to the last level and see it all.
But hey, i posted a warning, and there's no rule on spoiler warnings, if there is I will be happily edit my post and apologise to those who read the spoiler warning at the wrong time

I rectified it. Our eyes are all drawn towards certain words, like swear words, or words depicting sexual activity, and I thought our eyes would be drawn towards "spoiler" before reading the Atlas thing, but hey, I put one before just incase now.

lucky (insert expletive here) not getting it til friday in europe, but it means i can finish off GoW before i trade it in at least...
Well, ive been spoiler hunting, and now im happy, cos i was unhappy i knew bout beating Atlas, but ive been told different things to why u beat him, if u have a choice in beating him, why u become a big daddy, its all conflicting, its like with Harry Potter all the spoilers got it wrong so i remained happy. So im still on my toes.
And cos i dont want to ruin my gd luck of still being surprised by bioshock, im not gonna check this thread til i finish it, hopefully before skl starts on 5/9/07 (thats in the PROPER d/m/y format, not the weird m/d/y one)

For some strange reason, everytime I play, it pauses for varying durations: sometimes up to ten seconds or more. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't do it so frequently, and it only gets more frequent when a lot of enemies are around. Pretty much makes the game unplayable and I really want to play it. Any ideas?

that happened to me in Oblivion, and i had to stop playing because it got so bad. i haven't had problems on bioshock yet though(unless you have the PC version)
anyway, Bioshock is amazing so far. i just want to go around for hours to look at the enviroment. right now im in arcadia, saved my game right after i invented the thing to restore the trees.

I'm playing it on the 360 and I haven't had a single freeze like as described in the gamespot review. Barely even any frame rate drops. Maybe it has something to do with that frame rate lock setting? Not having any real problems with the game other then finding enough time to play it.

Yeah I've run into some odd physics glitches like that too. I'll suddenly be turned around when walking on or near debris, walking over a small object and it will go fling through the air and A LOT of dead enemies still twitching. I've seen corpses hands waving at me, the third guy I killed landed cross lagged with one foot tapping and his arms in a Saturday Night Fever pose with another guy in the same room (the "hit em' with the one two punch" as Atlas calls it room) looked like he was doing jazz hands.

i had a glitch last night that PISSED ME OFF. i was fighting a big daddy in Fort Frolic(one with a little sister, which made it even worse). i died after getting him down to about half health, and ran back up to him. i shot him with an exploding shotgun round and he went up to the wall and stopped moving. whenever i would try to shoot him he wouldn't take any damage, and i just had to abandon it and give up my adam hopes.
