Since thats true can we stop getting raped on the DLC cost? If you've downloaded it all you've spent about $300 on this game. Don't get me wrong I love it but man they could easy cost 80 credits.
I know Microsoft likes to screw people with the DLC(that's why it's credits not a dollar amount) but come on.

Takes 2-3 months of light, animation, chart, mix ect coding to make a single track, quite a hefty amount to license from the original artist, pay musicians if it's a cover, takes a huge central network server base to make it available for download forever, and takes an equally huge server base to check all the DRM.
It's not exactly "rape."

Considering everything that goes into each song, I think it's fair.

I've gladly accepeted the prices. They're steep, but fair.
You can complain all you want, but HMX needs to actually make a profit of these songs. It will lead to more and better DLC in the future.

I agree. Also RB's DLC is still cheaper than GHIII's!!! I have not bought anything for GHIII but have bought a ton for RB. It is steep but fair due to all it takes to make a song. All I ask is give us a sell like a Xmas once in a while:)

I don't need an overall reduction - I'd just like to pay the American prices instead of the $1 more we have up here in Canada. :-D So be happy!
Admittedly, I probably spend the same amount as I would if the prices were equal, I'm just pickier about the songs I get.

Trying to muster up the $2 per song just means taking the money from somewhere else. Say that you drink water a lot. Buy only bottle of water, refill it at water fountains, and after two refills you've already saved enough to buy one song.

Well said...We are talking about $2 a track or $6 a week. If you can't re-arrange some of your spending to come up with that, than maybe you should not have a $400 console and $180 video game....

Dont thank HMX for that, thank Canada for being Canadian

Say your are an Ace at Rockband and have not a sinlge friend in the world: You save your pennies and pocket lint and buy one song. You will probably someday play it on each of the instruments you play (except bass, because of your smell) so that is 3 plays at ~3 min a play, thats 1$ for 4.5 min of entertainment.
On the other hand if you are reasonably normal and happen to like the song that you buy you can easily expect to play it many times, and many of those times you will have friends also enjoying it, 3 playing maybe a few lookey-lous etc. so to pull a number out of my ass you would probably get at least 20 playthroughs for an average of 60 solid minuets of entertainment for 2 lousey bucks.
So the moral of the story: buy songs you like to play and don't be such a cheap skate.

That graphic is awesome.
And I agree, although the price is steep, considering what goes into it it's a fair price to pay. And to be honest, 2.5 million isnt really that many... How many copies of the game has sold? Has it even sold a million yet? I hope so. I checked the rankings the other day to a week old DLC i hadnt gotten a score for and there were only 1200 scores. That's atrocious! I know the PS3 has fewer users but i cant imagine there being more than double the 360 users so that's still below 4000 people with those songs. How the hell to they make a profit out of that?

Trying to buy a house is like saving money up for 20 years.. it's a fair price... just don't consume food or any sort of other resources and you'll get there faster.
Give me a break.
You can BUY a MP3 for .99 or cheapier if you shop around. Or you can BUY a song that you can only hear while playing and play it for 1.99. The price should be no more than .99. It would be fair if you maybe owned the song as an MP3 as well.
First of all I am sure that HMX doesn't pay anywhere close to .99 for a song.
Secondly it makes things more attractive. And I can tell you that 90% of the people I have played online on the ps3, do NOT have ANY dlc (which is annoying).
And come on, if you buy all the content, you're spending $24 a month. That's what $9 more than WOW, which is (no offence) much bigger than rock band with much more content, constant patches and added features. I think we pay a lot for what we get.
And there's a difference between being honest about a situation and whining about it.
It's JUST AS annoying when someone whines about someone whining as it is for the person to "whine" in the first place.

the original post does not make a valid point, but I totally agree that the download should come with an ogg of the song.

$6/week x 4 weeks = $24/month (yaaayyy math!)
Just start short-paying your rent by $24 every month. When your landlord finally realizes and confronts you about it, look him/her straight in the eye, and in your best Dee Snyder-voice, say "I WANNA ROCK!".
I think they'll definitely understand....problem solved!

You get twenty miles (roughly) out of your car for $3, don't be such a cheap skate. Gas is cheap!

The OP actually makes a case for increasing the cost of the songs, not lowering them. Good business practice would dictate that if items are selling really well, you can raise the price of the items to increase profit. You lower the price when sales drop off. The OP should take a little Economics 101. Supply and demand, baby, and DLC is in demand.
Sure, they COULD set the price at $.99 and after paying royalties on each download and figuring all other costs, make a few cents each download, or they could charge $1.99 and make a buck off a download. Let's be realistic. If someone told you they would buy your television for $2,000, would you say "I only paid $1,000 for my television, so you can have it for $1,000"? No frickin' way. You would take the $2,000 (or as much as you could get) and be on your merry way to buy a better TV. Everyone is looking at this solely as a buyer and saying Microsoft is being greedy, but you would all do the same thing if you were the one with the product in demand.

At least HMX is not hoarding all the new songs as they are created and then releasing Rock Band 2, 3, 4 every eight months or year.

Also, there is a pretty nice thread about how the DLC process works over here:

It's loaded with (mostly accurate) user-compiled tidbits that should give you a pretty good idea of what it's like releasing a song as DLC.

Lol agreed. C'mon people! If we can save up for a next gen system, really, how hard is it to muster up $2 for a song for RB? Considering the amount of work that goes into a song, and all we get for it, it's reasonably priced.
