Do you think that when this game comes out, everyone online will be very picky about the instrument they play? Meaning, is everyone going to want to be drums just because they are a new thing? I don't want to get online and can't find anyone to play with just because everyone wants to be drums.

Well what i have planned with the people that might i be in their or in my band is that we will switch Instruments so everyone gets to play something different each song to be fair.

yes, but this also means that finding a GOOD drummer will be the hardest thing to do. I'm sure bad to mediocre drummers will be in high quanity, as excelent guitarists will be in high quanity. Great to excelent drummers will be a rarity.

I'll admit, I want to playing drums because they are new, but I can sing or shred if my fellow bandmate wants to play drums. I am not picky.
>>edit Masterx1918 I disagree, at first there wont be many good drummers, but give it a couple of weeks for people to beat hard or expert and I think that a lot of great drummers will be out there.

I'm sure there will be a matchmaking system. People will select which instrument they want to play and they'll get matched up with people of similar skill on other instruments.

Good idea, I never thought about a matchmaking system.

MY friend is getting drums so I won't be playign those. I'm a bass player in real life and I love it so if I have a choice that's definitely going to be what I play. I have no problem playing guitar though but I definitely wont sing. I don't wanna make everyone drop dead on the spot....... cause then i wouldn't get 5 stars on the song :(

Well I believe I will have a preference to playing the drums offline but in online stuff I am willing to give anthing a go except the singing. Just playing with others online will be cool no matter what instrument you play

I'm gonna probably play the drums for the first, I dunno, 6 months. :D Nah, I'll be playing the drums mostly 'cause I'm a drummer and I'm most excited for this aspect of RB, but I'm gonna play guitar just as much, but I dunno about singing 'cause it's not the most fun thing to do for me. And, also, I'm the drummer in a RB band already and I plan to be on Xbox Live a lot, so, yeah.

I'm sure there will be AI replacements if no one wants to play certain instruments.

I think people really want to try out the new things such as the singing and especially the drums, but I'm hoping that the higher difficulty levels for the drumming portion will weed out a lot of the people hogging drums just for the novelty of it. Personally, I'll be playing drums almost exclusively since I am a drummer. I just hope the game is difficult enough.

I have the suspicion that getting a good singer for your band will be like trying to get a good healer for your MMORPG group. (ie: an important role that no one wants to play, and of those who do, few are any good at it)
Myself, I don't plan to "specialize" on any one instrument. Part of the appeal to me of this whole thing is that I can jump from one role to another without fear of getting bored. (so long as there's no misirlou / message in a bottle caliber basslines... yeck)

Well, judging from your poll, no one likes singing, so looks like I won't have any problems. The vocals is what I'm most looking forward to. I know I'm not the best at guitar already and I already know I'm good at singing, so that's my lot in the whole band thing. :D

Drums are new, and I'm obviously going to jump right on them to play, and to be honest it has a bit more appeal to me than guitar at this point. I will play both though, but in the band I'm in I'm going to try and be drums as much as possible.
I think this is the truth for a lot of people, with the drums being something new and all, everyone is going to want to play them at the beginning, but I think a lot of people will fill in the other spots too, I don't think it will be hard at all to create a band. Although there will probably be a surplus of drummers.

In my band, im best guitarist, and my mate is gonna take drums really seriously, but it doesn't matter who plays what, we're only gonna take it in turns for w.e. you song you wanna play a particular instrument on, but we're just not gonna have a singer,

See, this is something I don't get. Why doesn't anyone want to be vocals? You have this amazing new technology for the microphone which will probably be used in every karaoke video game for the rest of forever, and no one wants in. Why?

To most of the audience, I would wager that the singer mechanic still retains a large amount of unknown. Even through we've seen demos and videos, I don't think a lot of people have their minds fully around this concept.
The karaoke revolution series never has struck me as a mainstream hit that a lot of people were familiar with. Thus, people are left to their own speculation and experiences to guess how good/bad that feature will be. And just based on my own personal experience, it's always been pretty bad. ;)
I think if the experience is as awesome as advertised, opinion will change favorably once the game is out and people can try it for themselves.

Yeah, I see where you're coming from with that. I myself haven't had any karaoke video game experience, just real life experience, so I guess that means I just have high hopes for the vocals in Rock Band.

I voted drums. But will probably start off with the guitar because of familiarity and to unlock bonus content.

I'm probably going to at least beat Drum Mode on Expert before I peddle my wares online.
I'm going Drums -> Guitar -> Bass -> (maybe) Vocals in order of interest.

i dont think it will be too hard to find guys to jam with regardless of the popularity of the drums. if people want to play online, they'll switch around their preferences once in a while to get a band going.
i think the hardest thing to find will be a singer with any talent. i mean would you really want some guy screaming off-key while you guys are playing? i wonder how many guys will be polite and tell them they rock when really theyre thinking, "this guy is terrible!"

But, I vote for singing

First paragraph - dead on. I'm counting on that myself, as my main talent will be vocals (I've gone platinum on expert in KR at parties, so that looks like my best path to open up content). If I want to play when my normal crew isn't available, I'll go vocals.
Then I'll go guitar/bass (which I'm so-so at, just starting expert on GHII, never played GHI), but I'm really going to enjoy the drums, because I've wanted to take them up for years, just never got around to it. Fortunately, one of the guys I'll be playing with is a good drummer, so I'll rarely be called upon in that role. I'll learn it on my own. My goal will be versatility as well.

im hoping my band will want to switch off every song or every setlist thing if we all have all the instruments which will probably happen

there arent a whole lot of peoplein my area that play games like this. it sucks. so i really only have two friends that would do this. so it looks like were going to be rigging up a stand for the mic so one of us can sing and do the other instruments.

With my offline group, I'll probably be stuck almost exclusively on drums and lead guitar. I far outclass my friends on GH2, and some of them have never gotten the coordination down to play guitar rhythms. They're mostly singers, and I'm happy to let them keep the mic most of the time.
Online, I expect I'll primarily be on vocals and guitar, or with a band pushing for championship scores, vocals and bass. I have a few Scorehero friends who are significantly better than I am, even if I am only one song away from the Log (frickin' Miserlou). But I've gotten platinum expert KR runs, which should put me in a slightly rarer position than expert guitarist. In the online band made up of college friends, I'll probably be exclusively on lead guitar.

Well I'm gonna be in 3 different bands playing a different instrument in each. But im definitely looking forward to drums the most, but more for single played. Wanna get that feel of accomplishment GH1 had when u went from easy thinking you'd never beat the game to suddenly realizing months later that BATM on expert is too easy.
