Which one!? I have 60 bucks. I want to get one of these games.
Reasons for Gears of War:
Online
Resident Evil 4 is my favorite game, and looks like the same gameplay type
Shooters are fun
My friends have this game online
Reasons for Oblivion:
I love RPG's
I heard the game lasts like, a long-ass time
etc...
Yeah, which one would you fellow 360-ers choose?

I'd tend to go with Gears, but Oblivion is an excellent game aswell.

Yeah, that's the answer I always get. "Gears of War is awesome, but Oblivion Rules".
It's not really helping my decision...I'm like, 50/50 on both...

And yeah, I wish I could. I'd still be short some cash.

Even though I don't have a 360. I've played both on that system and Gears gives you the better initial reaction when you play it but in terms of value if you plan on not buying a used copy I'd go with Oblivion.

ok since the used way to go isn't the possible way to go here's my .02
gow = pretty good campaign but once ur done with insane not much to do with it afterwards, online is pretty fukin good if you ask me. fun game overall
oblivion = pretty damned good story which like you said will take you a long ass time, in case u get some extra cash soon there are some extra areas that u can d/l off of xbox live, no multiplayer though (obviously)
so wut i gotta say is if you like rpgs more than any other game and u can have a lot of fun with rpgs over a span of like 5 months or whatever than go for oblivion. but if you don't mind not playing the single player campaing after only 2 months of having gow then get gow fo sho. multiplayer on gow more than makes up for the somewhat short single player campaign (that u can also play co-op with). hope this helps :\

since oblivion is going to last you a lot longer for the time being since it has so much content, i'd go with that. So you wont get bored while youre saving up to get the other one hehe

I'm not a 360 owner, but I did play Oblivion on the PS3, and from what I heard the two versions where pretty much the same as far as story goes. And let me tell ya....the game didn't seem that long to me, I was expecting a bit more, also once I finished it, that was it, no replay value, nevertheless it's a great game, that's a given. All I'm trying to say is that a game with online play like Gears of War has you playing it long before you finished the single player campaign. Of course that's my opinion.
Anyway, hope this helps.

Oblivion is the best game i've ever played, I can guarantee you love it and become EXTREMELY attached. I've spent 80 hours on the game, and still play it 8 months after getting it.
Gears of War has crazy addicting online play (for most people anyways) but has a fairly short single player experience. If you think you'll like it enough online then it adds immense replay.
I'd get gears, only because Oblivion is coming out with GOTY edition with all the expansions already on the disc, so I'd wait to get it. But definetly at some point play it, and if there wasn't a GOTY edition coming out i wouldve gone with that

You my friend must've have done close to zero side quests. Of course getting achievements for completing all the guild quests helped give incentive.

Yeah I tried to find as many things to do in oblivion to make it last as long as it could and i played it for months and months before i ever wanted to take a break from it, and I still think I missed alot of content. This thread has made me want to play it again though lol so off I go.

You got me there!! but honestly going on a useless quest to buy some stupid tea set so that an inn keeper could win that heart of some chick, kinda killed the game's exicitement. hehe!!
But again I say, Oblivion IS a great game, not so big on the replay value is all(for me that is).

It depends if you want to play online or offline.
Oblivion is the better game, but it made me feel overwhelmed most of the time, so I ended up playing Gears Multi more.
But then again Halo is coming out soon and thats going to be the online game to get. But if you have never played Gears and you love action games, you must give it a try.
Either way you cant lose.
If you really want to put aot of time into the game, I say Oblivion. If you really want a good multi player game to last you till Halo, get Gears.
PS: Actually wait for the GOTY editon of Oblivion.

Get Oblivion... I had both but I think Oblivion is a much better game and Gears kinda gets old quick even online cuz there's only deathmatch

Wow, tough question... You might as well ask me which hand I'd rather lose...or worse...
Pretty even ground IMO but like a bunch have already said wait for the GOTY/GOAT edition of Oblivion. Now if your looking to pick one right now, I'd have to say "follow your heart" or in this case since you said "Shooters are fun" and "I love RPG's" I'm guessing you like RPG's more then shooters so I'd go with Oblivion. That and potentially 100+ hours messing around in Oblivion beats potentially 100+ xbox live kids calling you every euphemism for homosexual you can think (and a few you didn't even know existed).

That's what I was going to say. Get Gears now. Then once Oblivion GOTY Edition comes out in Septemeber, get that. They are both great games.

Wait Akaymay I thought you had Silver?
Well if you have Halo I'd get Oblivion. Gears is no RE4 in thd single player department and bored me in multiplayer which I found to be just a third person Halo but that's me perhaps.

I was addicted to Oblivion for a long time, but Gears still has my full attention. The feel of the game is what keeps me playing it. All other Shooters have that "floating" sensation when the character moves. While playing gears you really get a sense of weight, just adds to the total experience. Trade in Halo and never look back.
