View Full Version : What Lead Singer's Voice Do You Wish You Had?
JimmyRyan
02-28-2008, 01:20 PM
Pretty straightforward. Think of lead singers whose voices sound so cool you wish it were yours.
Mine =
1.) Bono
He has great range, it's powerful, and the emotion really can be felt when he belts it out.
2.) Claudio Sanchez (of Coheed & Cambria)
I've just recently picked up listening to C&C, and his voice is one of the reasons I'm liking them so much. Very distinctive, emotional, good for the kibd of music they play.
3.) James Hetfield
As a decent singer, and a Metallica fan who has a very 'choir boy' voice, I'd love to have Hetfield's singing voice. Mine lacks that edge to it that he can so easily relate, I wish I had a little bit more of it.
What about you?

Maynard James Keenan- Just the versatility and range of emotions he can convey with his voice...from the screaming on Ticks and Leeches to some of the more mellow stuff with APC to the half yelling / half singing kind of stuff he does. One of the very best of the current musicians.
Bruce Dickinson- Range, enough ****ing said.
Robert Plant- The guy can belt it out, simply put. When he lets it loose and wails, just an awesome singer. Plus, there's a point in every Led Zeppelin song (usually toward the end) where Plant just starts randomly yelling "Baby," "Mama," "Oooooh," or "Yeah," in random combinations.
Hetfield- I don't think he's a very good singer but he cracks me up more than anyone in music. Just growling "YEAAAHYEAHHHHAAHHHHHHHH" I could make myself laugh all day.

I love his soft voice, and when he ranges it higher it's just awesome too!
I'll also update this post later.

Freddy Mercury: I want a serious set of pipes with great range and the ability to sustain those high notes.
Dave Grohl: I want to be able to yell for extended periods of time without having to struggle to muster a squeak for days afterward.
Eric Clapton/BB King: I want grown men to weep when I sing the blues.

Any vocalist that has a scope of range and pitch control, Labrie of Dream Theater wouldn't be a bad choice here. But I'm not too picky, personally I just would like to hold a note and have good tone/pitch. :p

Yeah, I'd take just about any professional singer because it would be an upgrade from what I can do. :)
I'd pick Bruce Dickenson though, he sounds almost operatic which is unique and cool sounding.

Maynard James Keenan - Incredibly beautiful melodies that can immediately turn into the longest raging scream I have ever heard. IMHO - Maybe one of the best rock/metal vocalists ever.
Or possibly Michael Åkerfeldt who is also in my top 5 vocalists list ever!
