OXM Rock Band Review

A new preview in October's OXM on Rock Band.

They basically go over each instrument, telling how cool they are. Not really into detail, it's only a one page preview.

The Guitar:

They 'confirm' that there are "...very subtle raised notches to let your fingers know that they're on the middle (yellow) keys." And, "...small Braille-like bumps in a dice-like number-five pattern on both the main frets and the hammer-on buttons."

I don't know what they mean by the Braille bumps, that's all the info they give.
They also admit they are split on which guitar feels better, Rock Band's Fender, or GH3's Les Paul.

The Drums:

Nothing much, they say they were all stoked to try out the drums. They said the drums impressed them out of all the other peripherals. They confirm that they are "remarkably well built," and "They can take an absolute pounding, and the stand is rock-solid." Cool. And, " ...it doesn't even wobble. Ever."

The Mic:

They say absolutely nothing, except that they want a mic stand to lean on.



All in all, not much new, except for the Braille on the frets. We already know everything else they said.

By the way, they kinda seemed like they preferred GH3 over Rock Band.


Just so you know, I just finished watching the Super Sweet 16 (AH! Only for Rock Band! Horrible show...!) on MTV which was supposedly featuring Rock Band and an unconfirmed Blink 182 song. Sorry, but no. Didn't happen. But they did hint that there was another Rock and Roll themed sweet 16, Aug. 20. So I'll check that out for you all.

I read in an E3 review some time ago, that with the new fret design of the guitar, people were losing their place on the frets. (no buttons or other ways to instinctively "feel" your location) This braille marking system seems like a direct way to attack this problem. I just hope the markings aren't too obtrusive, annoying, or otherwise detracting from the controller.



The drums... sound as cool as ever. Can't really judge them until you sit and try 'em.

Solo buttons have similar features, only difference I can see is that they're narrower.

well if that ends up being true about Angus being one of the bosses, then people are going to lose their jaws to the floor when they see how tall he is!
