How many songs have you gold-starred? I thought I would make this post so then people can say how many songs they've gold-starred in the game (and so they can brag about it too:D)
For the record, I've gold-starred 42 songs on guitar. Anyone got more?
EDIT: I now have 91 gold stars!

I expect I've done around 30-40, about half DLC and half disc songs.
While we're on the subject, is it possible to gold star Can't Stand Losing You on guitar? Because I heard that it's impossible on a few DLC songs and I can't seem to do it...

Yes, I've gold-starred that one, just save your star power for the choruses.
As for which ones you can't gold star, I've heard those are Rockaway Beach and Bang A Gong. (I have both and can honestly say I haven't gold starred either one.)

For guitar:
58/58 main setlist
57/62 DLC- missing Bang a Gong (impossible?), Blackened (within 2k), Rockaway Beach (impossible), Ride the Lightning (solo needs work), and working Man (within 2k)
That puts me at 115 songs with Gold Stars. Who's got me beat?

I humbly submit that I have 14 tour and 1 bonus. I was just 2,000 points shy of Dani California earlier today.
The bonus song the Time we had was my first. I did it and didn't even know how gold stars worked at the time.
For those of you that have lots. Do you just stick with one song until you gold start it, or do you play a few while trying to get those specific ones or do you play whatever for practice and just get enough reps on them to finally get the score?

As much as I'd like to say I have you beat in numbers, I don't have so much DLC. 20 songs currently, and I don't play a lot of solo.
But I will say I've got you on Ride the Lightning!
Only two I'm missing in main setlist are RTTH and TKAR.

Joker and the Thief is damn near impossible to get. I have 165K on that and don't have gold.

I think I've gold-starred 5 or 6 on vocals, but that's been it.
I haven't put much time in on the drums, and for the life of me, I can't seem to finish up the last two songs on guitar on hard (Molly Hatchet and The Outlaws).
Freakin' solos get me every time on those two songs. :(

I haven't tried to gold star too many yet but what I've tried I've been successful with..except this song. I haven't FC'd it yet but I've gotten through it while missing like one note and using OD on the repetitive parts..still no gold star. It's probably possible though.
The only songs I've gold starred are Dirty Little Secret, Roxanne, El Scorcho, Mississippi Queen, and Time we Had. I haven't tried many others though, except Maps which I got within i think 200 points of (missed the FINAL CHORD and didn't get GS or FC because of it) and Can't Stand Losing You. I'm trying to gold star the easier ones before I try to harder ones - and I still have GGaHT to beat :/

Yes, activate like this:
2- Next OB chord
2- Next OB chord (overwrite one phrase)
3 (bar should be full)- at 2nd alternating YO-O part (should overwrite last phrase)

I haven't gold starred anything in career mode, but i have done a few on bass, and in online band quicklplay. I think i am close to gold-starring several of them. questions.
Is there a list of minimum score requirements to gold star songs? and if so, where can i find it?
What exactly does FC mean? does that refer to playing a song perfectly?
hmmm. thought i had more questions but i guess i don't.

Expert and somewhere around 1.555 Times the amount of which you get 5 Stars. So after you get 5 Stars and continue to get more points you can get gold stars.

I've done one on vocals, but that's it. I haven't sung in the game in a couple of weeks now, and I just don't feel too concerned about trying to gold star everything. I'll complete the tours and play with friends here and there. I've had fun challenging myself to move up in levels on drums and guitar, but since I have a background in singing (and playing guitar), I'm not as driven to achieve gold stars in the game. It's just all about the fun.

In all of my games (everything from warcraft to team fortress, etc) I try to take a balanced approach. Too often I see people who specialize in one "niche" and then miss out on a lot of game content.
It really shows with my gold star distribution, which is
~15 on Drums
~75 on Guitar
~35 on Vocals
(It would probably be more balanced except for my lack of skill in drums ;) and some un-possible gold stars on vocals)
I end up as sort of a jack of all trades role... very useful for filling out a band.

You guys make me sick! I've played all of the GH series and got RB for Xmas, play an hour or 2 most every day (Hey i've a job and 3 kids). I'm done on hard (guitar), only Flirtin and GGnHT on expert (and I've done all bonus and the 20 - only outside gave me grief - or so DLC I have). No gold stars (but lots of 5 star - i don't care to count, only Train kept rollin and RTTH are 3 star in the main list).
My 10 year old son just got golds on 'I think I'm Paranoid' drums - so even he's better'n me!!
Seriously, though, I'd appreciate an asnwer to the earlier question - do you just focus in on 1 song and keep doing/practicing until it's gold, or do you take a tier, or just songs you like, or are you just so awesome that first time through you ace it (which is what my son did, durn him)?

To answer the questions about how to focus your play:
I do go for gold stars and FC. I'm perfectionist so it's what I do. Before I sit down, I'll try to set a goal for myself. Say, 100K higher on the leaderboard than I am when I started, gaining 3 ranks (at 23rd it's really hard) or just improving on X songs. Then I look at the list and see what I need to improve at.
Sometimes the songs come naturally. I do study the note charts, figure out the best path and go to it. Sometimes you nail it first try, sometimes you have to tweak it. Sometimes you want to throw your guitar through a window cause it's so easy to miss one note on Electric Version and lose your combo on Creep. I've played the same song for 2 and a half hours straight to find the best line/get it just right.
To keep it fresh though, there are times where I'll boot up the game and say specifically to myself that I'm only going to play DLC so there's no chance of me getting frustrated and going specifically for scores (I haven't sat down and tried too hard on the DLC yet). Just ways to make it not tedious. Cause it's a game and you should be having fun :)
Hope that helped!

I have about 25-ish gold stars on guitar. None on drums and none of course on vocals.
I played online a saw someone with a gold drum his partner on the guitar had a gold guitar. that must have been one of you guys. looked cool I felt honored to play with them, felt like being called on stage to play with Skynyrd at a live concert.

Gold instruments just means you beat the solo tour on Medium or better (not sure about Easy since I don't think they have access to all of the songs), so you can certainly have the gold gear without any gold stars.
Edit: If you're talking about the instrument icon, then gold means beating the Endless Setlist with the lowest band member on Hard. Platinum is for Expert, inverted is for Medium.

Most of them are fairly accurate.
I've got around 32/58 gold stars on drums (don't remember exactly how many). Most of the dlc I get has difficult drums, so I only have gold on 2 dlc songs (buddy holly and interstate love song).

0 gold stars on any instrument. If I had any chance to gold star anything it would have to be on the drums. I'm not any good at the guitar. I can hold my own on hard but once it gets to expert I tank pretty bad. Sure, The 7 I haven't GS'd are:
Seven (I inevitably mess up once or twice and it's annoying.)
Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld (Some days I have the riff, some days I'm just tragically off.)
Pleasure Pleasure (Need a LITTLE bit more in the solo, I'm perfect otherwise)
Run To the Hills (Need I say more?)
Freezepop (Stupid triplets)
Dead or Alive (Again, I inevitably mess up once or twice and I'm like 1.5K from the GS right now)
Creep (Getting closer on the alt-strums but I just can't get the rhythm down for long enough)

I guess we both have the same OD path, because it took a full-combo and precise Overdrive use to get this one, and I was only a few thousand over the cut-off. I've played this song for hours on end, on multiple occasions. I think if you find the "right" OD path [the one the top 10 folks on the leaderboard use], you can afford one or two mistakes. But yeah, I know exactly how you feel about this one.
Timmy & the Lords of the Underworld
You'll get this one far before I do. I want to practice that riff, sometime... but as it stands, I can only 05* it while sporadically flailing at the riffs. It's really awkward.
Pleasure (Pleasure)
I get tripped up at dumb stuff before the solo. If you can pull this one - and you sound damn close to being able to - major kudos. It's not impossible, but it's one of those songs that works me.
Run to the Hills
...I was stoked to barely 05* this, a month or so ago.
Brainpower
Do you have to FC the trills to get Gold stars? I'm pretty sure I've gotten 100% on the song, minus this YBO-fest. I can't do that for the life of me... maybe if you can squeeze through it without failing, and activate OD afterwards? Either way, it sounds like you're close to this one, too.
Wanted Dead or Alive
This one's easy. Coming from a guy who's not all too great at the game, I'm allowed to say that. You definitely don't need a FC to get the gold on this one. By biggest tip, albeit a bit cheap, is just to strum everything up until the guitar solo. [Aside from the back-forth-back-forth HO/POs that commonly occur]. At first I was trying to do the song the "right way", but I either ended up over-strumming, or trying to HO a note that required strumming. But I definitely didn't 100% the solo, and I certainly choked up near the end, during "the crazy" part. This one's not nearly as picky as Seven, in terms of getting GS based off %.
Creep
This was all luck, for me. I don't think I'll ever be able to do it again. My biggest tip on this -- since I can't seem to find "the rhythm" during those speed-strumming parts -- is to either slow it down or speed it up depending on how fast you strum. When I first played Creep during those spots, I noticed I wasn't "missing" any notes , which led me to believe I was strumming too fast. I played it a bit more, and slowed things down. [So one or two would occasionally be missed]. After that, though, I tried to find a middle ground, and kept it up just long enough to nail the OD phases during that segment. I think if you can do that, you're in the gold.
But seriously, those are some impressive scores. I haven't even 05*'d [i]Flirtin' With Disaster yet... so I definitely have to give a hats-off to anyone who can gold star that beast. Craziness.

Let's see. On drums, I have 59/135 Gold Stars (I have all the DLC) and on Guitar I have like maybe 10 or so (I don't play guitar that much). As you can see I like the drums the most.
I don't really practice the songs either. I just usually go at them and if I do good, so be it, if not, it's alright.
Oh yeah, 31 Drum G* are from the disc songs. The other 28 are DLC.

I've gold starred maybe.... 8? songs on drums, I could get a hell of alot more but my yellow pad misses every maybe 75th note which is insanely annoying when I can %100 enter sandmand easy and gold star a bunch of others (already gold starred enter sandman)
I think the one's I've done are:

6) welcome home
7) enter sandman

Also, Millertime on the PS3 Scorehero list is incorrect. He has himself listed at 309K with a gold star. I definitely didn't see mine go until at least 313K, if not 313.5K.

Creep (Getting closer on the alt-strums but I just can't get the rhythm down for long enough)
I spent about two hours trying to get this down the other day. I got very close to the GS score, (only 800 away).
Why is something so simple so difficult?
DarkEternal37
03-31-2008, 02:09 AM
It's the simple ones that get ya. I know I tend to overthink it on some of the simple things and it leads to dumb mistakes. Just gotta get in the zone and let your hands take over. I was so pumped to finally get that one and Seven tonight. They've been plaguing me for months.
I also managed to 100% Blood Doll and Day Late Dollar Short to bring my FC's up to 25.

GSing Seven was just a huge relief. Like finally removing that thorn in your side.
And GSing Creep... that's... well, it's nearly the Rock Band equivalent of getting laid, more or less. You knew it would happen, eventually. And after much patience, you get your shot. You may have had to speed it up or slow it down, but once you found that rhythm... well, that was that. You're officially a man.

OK, nowhere near as impressive as the rest of you guys, but I've got 3 gold stars on guitar, and 12 on bass. The only one that I've managed to get it on both guitar and bass is Roxanne (damn, I love that song), and the remainder are as follows:
Guitar:
- Dirty Little Secret
- El Scorcho
Bass:
- All The Small Things
- Beethoven's C***
- Blood Doll
- Crushcrushcrush
- Epic
- Here It Goes Again
- Maps (first one I did, and got the Flawless Groove achievement thanks to it)
- Roam
- Say It Ain't So
- Should I Stay Or Should I Go
- The Collector (probably easiest bass out of any of the tracks in the game)
Now that I finally managed to somehow pass GG&HT (don't ask me -- must have been a total fluke), I'll probably work on getting that number of guitar GSes up.

Not that it's really important, but a few posts back I referred to my struggles with a few songs that I couldn't even 05 star, yet alone GS. Needless to say, I both practiced and finally 05*'d Flirtin' and GG&HT yesterday. Nowhere near gold-starring them anytime soon, but it's nice to finally get rid of those disgusting 04 stars.

Finally got Dead on Arrival. That song is just beastly rhythm. I know the one part on that song that absolutely has destroyed me in the past (and got me somewhat on my Gold star but less than usual) is the ending. Those quick chord transitions piss me off and I can never really figure whether it would be easier to use the hammer on or just ignore it and strum to keep rhythm.
Only 4 to go in the main setlist!
Exayle
04-04-2008, 03:02 AM
I remember finally figuring out those chord transitions on Dead on Arrival. I used to strum it to keep up the rapid rhythm, but I found that letting your hand kind of "glide" into place, and just tapping the note, then picking up the strumming speed worked wonders.
Mad props on the Shockwave 05*. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little jealous, though. Any tips? I score around 80%-90% on the first solo, and tank the second. Pretty soon I'm going to practice the rapid-Greens, PO, rapid-Greens, PO part that occurs so much. Sometimes I can keep a 04/08x combo through it... other times I can't. 98,000-something's been my highest run, as of today. [04 stars, and ~60% of the 05th].
Only 04 more to go? Damn. Off the top of my head... and not referring to the list a few posts back... would those happen to be; Run to the Hills, Pleasure (Pleasure), Brainpower, and... Timmy?
If so, I think Brainpower would likely be your next one, if you could somehow find a way around those trills. I recall you saying if you could squeeze out a few more points in the solo of P(P), you'd be gold, too. Good luck on those... a full gold setlist would be pretty epic.
DarkEternal37
04-04-2008, 03:08 AM
You got the four I need yup. I was either going to go for Pleasure Pleasure or Timmy. Pleasure Pleasure cause I'm so close and Timmy cause every time I play it I get a little bit better at the crazy riff.
As for Shockwave, thank you for the props and you're not very far off yourself. My 5* was just below 117 and I think it pops around 114 ish so you're knocking on the door. As hard as that second solo is, I think you're right to do what you're doing and focus on the rapid greens. If you can combo through that or at least most of it, I think that's what got me there and will get you there too.
My main advice is just be calm on those greens. With the speed of the song I know it tends to make me want to strum it faster than need be. If you just strum it a nice even pace you'll be fine. But I'm sure you probably knew all that already :)
Also about Dead on Arrival I think you're right about the glide. That does make it feel more natural and with the break in strumming it almost HELPS me keep rhythm better than hurting it.
Exayle
04-04-2008, 03:22 AM
It really does... it's a shame I couldn't figure that out sooner, truth be told.
Quick Shockwave question. During that rapid green bit, I strum everything... I think the problem is that I can't "speed up" for the green, "slow down" for the next two notes, then "speed up" for the next green. It's just too... off-rhythm to try it. I end up getting jumbled, and either strum too fast for the POs, or too slow for the greens. So... how did you go about doing it? I think the key is to FC the verses and that part [the chorus? I'd only assume]. The solos are fluff, I'm thinking. So... do you strum the POs? I bet you have a grab-bag full of "mind tricks", or alternative ways to think of the notes/charts when you're going for high-scores. . Speaking [i]outside of Shockwave, obviously. Have you adapted any for Shockwave -- or the chorus, inparticular? I'll practice that part tomorrow, I'm thinking.
I also used to have a panic attack during the GG RR YY BB part(s), and was determined to have OD to get through it. Messing around with today, and apparently I can get through it without OD, while staying in the green/yellow. Not say it sounds good, but at least I can save the OD for a better segment now, I think.
Thanks for the feedback thus far. And you were right -- the 05-star cutoff is indeed 114,035.

The ostinato part of the solo (that's the weird alternating climb thingy that they do in the first part) wrecks me. I get spastic and miss too many notes. I'm literally like 500 points short of the Gold Star.
As for Shockwave, I don't strum the hammer-ons in the chorus. I think it's actually easier cause as you said it's hard to change the alt-strum speed. That way you can keep yourself focused on doing the same rhythm throughout. If you practice it a lil' bit it'll start to feel natural. And the GG,RR etc part is the same alt-strum speed. Like you were saying, if you stay calm and don't panic you can run your way through it pretty well.

Seriously though, knowing what the points needed for each song to attain the gold stars gives people a goal to work toward. So when someone needs gold star for Enter Sandman for instance, they can look at a list and know how many points they need to get them.

Definitely worth 80 points, hell I would have paid the 160 points for it, I love Bang Camaro.

Only two so far, but I'm not really an expert level player so I haven't been attempting any others.

It wasn't until about a month ago that I was capable of 05*ing GG&HT, so... wow. Beast. Drunk beast.
I've yet to be drunk in my lifetime, and I don't have intentions of ever doing so... which is a shame, really, because I often wonder if my RB skills would increase or decrease.
On an unrelated note, and though it's not gold stars, I finally 05*'d Shockwave today. What Darketernal said was pretty much spot on; it's all about the quick-strumming green, and pulling off the other two colors. [As opposed to strumming everything... which I did the first time]. I feel like a huge weight's been lifted off my shoulders; 04 starred songs are no longer an issue on my profile. Whewt.

I'm sure that's a great feeling...too bad I still have Blackened, Ride the Lightning, Smokin' and March of the Pigs (the one that pisses me off the most since there's only two sequences to play) as 4* blights.
At least I knocked off Run to the Hills yesterday.

You'll get them. All of those songs [among others] were pains in the anus to 05*. Not trying to sound condescending, but here's some stuff I picked up on that may or may not help;
01 - Blackened. For some reason or another, I was so close to 05*ing this on sightread, but it took another try or two to get it down. I think it just really comes down to finding the rhythm of the verses/chorus -- something I get right 50% of the time, and whiff 50% of the time, today. I also found that the solo isn't that bad at all... nothing to hoard Overdrive over, that is. Use it graciously if you haven't already. I also got really comfortable with a few spots that I knew I could keep a multiplyer on, and saved OD for there.
02 - Ride the Lightning. You can at least beat it, and that's half the challenge, right there. Are you close to 05*s? The first 10 times I've played I was probably 04-05k short of the 05-star mark. What was ultimately screwing me over [aside from half-assing the solo] was breaking my combo during some of the transitions during the verses. Instead of using the hammers/pulls, I decided to strum the few HO/POs I encountered. That, and finally nailing the rapid-strum bits nailed it. To this day, I think my best score is 208,000... with 05 stars at ~204,000. Talk about cutting it close. It'll just come down to practice. But like I mentioned; being able to beat it [let alone 04 star it] is far beyond the majority of folks out there. You'll get this, for sure.
03 - Smokin'. I can't do the main riff for sh*t. I know what to do - I can read it just fine - but my hand doesn't want to do it. And to get 05 stars, you need to hit the majority of it. I think I ultimately ended up going into practice and slowly increasing the speed until it became somewhat of a muscle reflex. This one was barely over the 05* cutoff, too, and I still suck at it, today. Practice ultimately makes this one.
04 - March of the Pigs. I don't even know what's going on with this one. I can't do the initial cords for the life of me -- but the chords with the oranges in them are no problem. My timing gets off, or something, but I can never get OD. I ended up going into practice - where I found the very subtle, but very weird time-signature changes - and... meh. It didn't really help me all too much. I just played the main segment in practice at 100% for about 10 minutes, until I got the general feeling down. I managed to gold star it once, miraculously [don't ask me how], but as of today, I'd be lucky to 05* it.
Congrats on the RTTH 05*, and good luck on the rest.

Oh they definitely decrease, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. They are straight up lying. I don't really drink a lot and I'm not an alcoholic by any stretch of the imagination (to my recollection that was the second time I'd had any thing to drink this semester, first time I'd actually been drunk this semester.)
Apparently I was told that I looked very funny as I was focusing extremely intently on the screen. I think the score was a tad over 301K.
Oh and complete side note. Never give a drunk friend nerds (the candy). They will end up all over the floor and be a super pain in the ass to clean up the next morning.

Blackened - 127k, ~40k away from 5*, so I have a lot of work. I know I need OD to survive the solo; I think it's the GRGBGYGO or however it goes part that kills me the most. The main riff also trips me up.
Ride the Lightning - 144k, ~60k away from 5*. Fail this song at least half the time. I need OD just to survive the start of the intro and another to get out of it. Even if I do survive the solo, my score is still to hell since I can't alt-strum (my biggest problem) and the fast part leading up to the solo requires it.
March of the Pigs - 47k, ~37k from 5* (gee, I just have to double my score and I'll get it!). I'm the exact opposite. I can hit the GRYB part just fine, but choke badly on the RYBO part as soon as yellow shows up. I know what it is, but damn if I can get my fingers to actually do it.
Smokin' - 119k, ~1-5k from 5*. I can sorta do the main part, I have to strum all of it though. Solos absolutely kill me (get around the 70s on both) since I really really realy suck at trilling (might have something to do with the fact that I'm allergic to the solo buttons).

Gold Stars drop off the radar really fast with just a little alcohol, from my experience. Although I am prone to breaking streak 8-10 times sober in most songs, so Gold Stars are difficult for me to pick up.

I'll play maybe an hour a day, but I find it easy to get burnt out, especially if I'm playing the same song over and over to GS it. I'm kind of amazed I knocked off Suffragette City, Celebrity Skin and Vasoline in the same week, since the number of times it took me I normally would've gone insane (thankfully this didn't kill any interest in STP...ironically, I'm actually watching a performance of that song right now).
Add to the fact that I absolutely hate practicing and I don't see myself getting any new gold anytime soon.

Right after I read the original post, curiosity got the best of me and I googled At the Gates + Neverwhere. And like you said... it definitely brought things to light. Sadly, it was all unintentional... one day I'll come up with a *****in' band double-meaning.
I 5 star songs like Working man and I'm so proud, how do you people gold star all these songs...and I ask this question with heart and honesty, no offense intended, but do you people have LIVES? I only play a couple hours a week. I played for 3 hours tonight and that's more than I've played in one sitting in the last month!
I'll be blatantly honest with you, Runa: I'm not that great at GH/RB, but I really don't have a life.
To save you the long, sad story... I'm from quite a small town. Not entirely small in population, but there's just... nothing to do. Fresh out of highschool I spent a year a few hundred miles away, attending a fancy University. When it didn't work out, I moved back home [where I purchased Rock Band], and, with all my friends having moved in that year I was away, wasn't left with a whole lot of options.
I play daily. Yes, daily. Often several hours. That's probably the only reason I can gold star stuff. I attend a community college, but this semester I couldn't take enough classes to be considered full-time. What's worse is that, since I mentioned there's not a lot of places or stuff to do, finding work is a nightmare. Starting next semester, however, I'll be taking full-time classes and working [finally], so my playtime will drastically decrease.
To answer your question; I definitely have way too much time on my hands, but it's not by choice. I also have a high tolerance to try something, fail, and try again... for hours on end, even. There's been a song or two that's taken me two hours to finally figure out and gold star. Also, for what it's worth, I started the whole "rhythm game" thing when GH2 was released on the PS2... so I have a bit of practice under my belt.
I am not on par with Exayle or DarkEternal, but I have 35 Gold Stars on guitar, and 4 on drums.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you the guy who can gold star GG&HT, but then fail at the triplets near the end? If so, then you're worlds better than me. I think I have a knack for figuring out OD-paths that get the job done. Not to brag, but I've been on the front page of the leaderboards on a dozen+ songs, at one point in time [I imagine they've slided a bit]. I'm horrible at the madness of crazy solos, but everything else I can usually do. Keeping a combo going and using precise OD are two things I'm pretty decent at, so maybe that has something to do with it?

Strangely enough, The more something repeats, the more likely I am to break combo. I guess I get complacent and sloppy. I ususally break combo in GGaHT 2-3 times before the ultra-fast strumming in solo 2, after which point it all goes to hell. The two runs I had Gold Stars before failing I didn't break combo at all until that point.
I did pass it finally btw, but it was not a gold star run, sadly. I nailed nearly all the triplets at the end, I don't really know what I did differently, but I have yet to repeat it.
Subsequent attempts to raise the score by the 8000-ish I need for gold have resulted in sadness and failure so far.

So I've been working relentlessly on weekends... which is usually my forum/net time. Oh well. I'll try and be a little more active on weekdays at least. Glad to hear I'm missed, though.
In other news [and on topic] - here's something I whipped up a month or two ago, and have actually put to use. It's a little nerdy, but it's also been a great motivation. ("I was that close?! Sh*t!") Figured I'd at least post some pics of it.

There's no way to really update the DLC portion, hence why it's at the bottom. I've added a lot of songs since them - some of which I've GS'd, some of which I haven't... so I namely use it for the main setlist, and also as a reminder that I suck at a handful of the DLC.

I love that list idea, gonna have to come up with one rather than just reviewing my "cheat sheet" of scores needed to GS. I can officially say that I've GSd more than half the main setlist (30 GS), but it is certainly a frustrating ordeal.
I've gotten to the point that this is the main reason I play. It has added a whole other level of fun that I didn't find in previous rhythm games. I remember back when GH1&2 were out I was like, "why would those crazy people try to hit every note, isn't that a little obsessive?" Now, here I am trying to GS every song (I have all DLC so it might be impossible, Thrasher I'm looking at you:mad:) and I figure once I get all Gold then I can go back and play each song for an FC (alot of my gold stars aren't FCs).

That's funny because a couple years ago (when GH2 first came out and I already had GH1) when I first started playing on Expert my girlfriend asked me why it was fun for me to play songs over and over and over. I said that I just enjoyed the game but I never really thought I'd get that good. I remember saying these exact words, "I want to be just good enough at the game that I can impress someone cause they'll be surprised I hit a tricky part." Now I'm obsessed with hitting everything. Funny how things change after a year or two.

well that's how it usually is, isn't it?! You're never like "I'm good enough now" and once you are able to hit the hard part in a song, why would you not try to hit it and also not miss in the rest of the song that is way easier?
Lol, when I first played gh1, I thought I would never get up to hard mode even:eek:

I'm the same way. With both GH1&2 I was completely content to just "play" the songs for fun. I was solely concerned with the "feeling" of rocking out. I couldn't even see how expert would be considered FUN. Man was I ever wrong! SORE HANDS = FUN! Who knew?

Thanks guys. I appreciate it.
I love that list idea, gonna have to come up with one rather than just reviewing my "cheat sheet" of scores needed to GS.
To save you some time and effort, here's what I designed myself. They're really close to 8.5" x 11" sheets of paper... so they won't get stretched or skewed when you go to print them. No DLC... but they should help you with the main setlist.

I will never be able to gold star a song on drums. :D
You'd be surprised about drums. I thought the same way. But I started working on Hard, then some expert.
Now I've gold starred 2 drum songs. It's just learning techniques, and memorizing patterns.

56/58 on Original 58
85/97 on DLC
141 total.
Virtually all of the ones not gold starred are due to them either not being mathematically possible or broken talkies. I'd say there are maybe one or two that could be had with creative pathing and a few that could be had by getting lucky and getting the talky glitch in a run. Anyways, that's that.

28/40 Main Setlist
(very close on GG&HT, within 4k.. close on Flirtin', within 8k?)
3/18 Bonus Setlist
(I know, I need to get back in there and finish them up, only a few that I know that I probably can't GS right now.. see: timmy & seven)
20/50 DLC
(I really regret getting that thrash pack.. and the metallica pack lol)
51/108 Total
5* total: 103/108 (missing thrasher, RtL, Blackened, NotB & Shockwave..)

Could always use a Scorehero account to keep track. Then if someone really wonders, you can just have them check the leaderboard and you'll be on it!

the thing I don't like in scorehero is 1 you have to take all pics and junk for proof right? im way to lazy for all that. plus the other thing is scorehero only tracks your rank to scorehero and not to the overall game which includes everyone and acts as a better barometer for how your doing on a song...
DarkEternal37
05-04-2008, 03:22 AM
Well you don't necessarily need to take the pics for proof. If anyone wants the proof they can look on the leaderboards on 360 or PS3 whichever applies. I've never taken a pic and never had anyone question me about it.
Yes, I do agree that it would be nice if it stacked you up against everyone instead of just what's on the website, but I just use it as an easy way to keep track of stuff, know what would be good to improve on etc. I had a Notepad file before and it worked really well too but I had to update everything (ranks and FC's) by hand. An excel spreadsheet would probably work pretty well too.

Oh I've got a scorehero account. I just kept track of lots of scores before I got my camera phone and am now going through and updating thoses scores and adding proof. On scorehero I have about 80 Gold Bass Stars I just haven't proved them all.
And I understand what your saying about using the leaderboards as proof, but my PS3 gets crap internet and so sometimes I do something really awesome and no internet no proof.

My current status is pretty much the same cause I've been playing more drums lately. I however, Fear the Reaper and cannot make it past the 90% mark. I'm so close I can taste it. As I said before I have ONE big ol' gold star on drums.
Guitar I'm still at 54/58. Haven't put any time into the main setlist since last I posted. The 4 are still:
Brainpower (about 2K off).
Pleasure (Pleasure) (about 500 off but I've improved at the Ostinato and I'll try it later tonight).
Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld (I'm improving but still a couple K off) and
Run To the Hills (fuhgeddaboutit)
For DLC I'm up to 40 Goldies on 53 songs. Grabbed the whole JP album and I'm about hundreds off on Bloodstone and I still want to GS Rock Rebellion so badly. But I absolutely love the song, so I don't mind playing it over and over again. Same goes for Saints of Los Angeles.
So, the grand total is 94/111.
http://rockband.scorehero.com/scores.php?user=176317&platform=3&size=1&team=0&group=1&diff=4 for the ever updating list.
Edit: Rock Rebelliowned! I was able to put the fast strums together and after missing early in them, I FC'd it under OD. Booyakasha.

Whoa. I remember reading somewhere that you didn't purchase DLC unless it was a song you enjoyed outside of RB, or it looked/sounded to be challenging. And I'm a DLC whore... and you've got me beat by 10 songs. Madness. Congrats on splurging on some new tracks, though. I, too, find it frustrating to spend points on songs that are impossible to gold star.

I was almost resigned to never getting a gold star and then along came --Roxanne - turn on the gold star, on my first try no less.
I still haven't beaten solo hard tour, stuck on flirtin' and gg&ht.
I really wish you could get gold stars on every difficulty, I love the sound of getting that last star, plus it gives you something to play for on the lower difficulties.

Well, just totalled them all up... out of the 158 songs that I have, I've gotten gold stars on 82 of them in expert bass, and 39 of them in expert guitar. Doing a lot better on guitar lately, actually... 23 of them were over this weekend, including;
- (Don't Fear) The Reaper
- Are You Gonna Be My Girl
- Blitzkrieg Bop
- Buddy Holly
- Call Me
- Casey Jones
- Complete Control
- Detroit Rock City
- Don't Look Back In Anger
- Ever Fallen In Love?
- Fortunate Son
- Gimme Shelter
- Go With The Flow
- Learn To Fly
- Limelight
- Mississippi Queen
- More Than A Feeling
- Reptilia
- Say It Ain't So
- The Hand That Feeds
- Wanted Dead Or Alive
- Wave Of Mutilation
- When You Were Young
I know, I know, not the most challenging tracks out there, but still I'm glad to see I'm progressing from where I was just a month ago :D

Should I Stay Or Should I Go
Black Hole Sun
Maps
Time We Had
only easy songs so far... but yea
songs i'm working on gold starring now are N.I.B. and Heroes, i was able to hit the part where N.I.B. does the blue, orange, blue, orange, blue, orange, blue, then the red/blue chord, i can hit it perfectly each time now so once i can get the solo 100% instead of that 1 damn note i keep missing, if i can do that then i can get gold star easy
