Demo Released Tuesday August 21st
I Think It Was Pretty Fun The Control Scheme Got A Little Getting Used To But Other Then That It Was Fun. I Never Got To Play The Whole Demo Cause The Demo Had 1 Little Glitch As To When You Fail A Goal I Pressed The Start Button Before It Said Continue Or Restart This Goal And Stuff So I Hauled Up The Pause Menu And Hit Restart Mission But Then After I Hit That And Xited Out Of The Pause Menu Then It Came Up And Said Restart Goal And Continue So I Hit Restart Goal Forgetting I Just Hit Restart Goal On The Pause Menu And My Screen Frooze Then Went Back To My Dashboard So Ill Fool With It L8ter

THUG signaled the ****ty era of Tony Hawk.

Project 8 was a good sign but Proving Ground looks to head back to THUG which is a shame.

skate. looks like a fresh take on it all. I'm telling you with skate. and Rock Band EA has a vendetta against Neversoft.

yea i just played skate and it feels like an entirely new game. It really is amazing, I only put it down because i had to go eat dinner. I've played pretty much every Tony Hawk game and they pretty much all feel like the same game from THPS4 and onward, but Skate feels entirely different, and the difference is really good.

Since i only played it for about 30 minutes, I am still not good with the different controls and I kept trying to do tricks the Tony Hawk way, which didn't work out too well, but hilarity ensued.

Bailing is really funny in Skate, for instance, if you're coming up to a curb and you want to ollie up and over it, but you wait too long, your board will hit the curb and your body will just keep going, usually ending in a face plant.

The only complaint i have is that the camera angle is necessarily bad, but they don't let you change it in the demo, hopefully they'll have more variety in the camera angles in the final game. Other than that, this game seriously kicks ass.

The controls felt awkward at first, but I got used to it in a matter of minutes. The feeling of doing your first kickflip is as satisfying as the first time you landed the 900 in Tony Hawk. It's definitely going on my To Buy list.

I expected to be underwhelmed by the demo, but I was pleasantly surprised. Still not used to the controls, but I spent an hour playing the demo already - editing skate footage, pulling off tricks. Might just have to buy this one.

skate is like a much needed breath of fresh air to this stale genre. I was pleasantly surprised at how this game handled. There was a steep learning curve [for me] that definitely takes some getting used to. I kept wanting to control it like a Tony Hawk game and it is NOTHING like it. Now I can say that I love the new control scheme even if it was difficult to used at first (and still kinda is). I wont be buying it but I'll keep on playing the demo. Good stuff!

Game is so kick ass. Like someone said before. The feeling you get from doing something is 100% better than tony hawk. Do a heelflip and turn into a board slide on a rail. Tell me you don't feel amazing after it either.

Played probably 3 hours so far... but my brother can do almost any combination of fip tricks...
Pretty easy to learn tricks after to get the basics...
I always tried to get a realism aspect into the TH games by making my skater have zero stats but this is WAY better...and as it has been said when you nail a trick you're trying to get it feels to much better than TH ever felt...

Wow... well it shows how people's opinions are different.

I found the control scheme awkward, after several goes (mainly because I read threads like this) it still didn't work for me. The reason why Tony Hawk's opitimises the perfect video game is simplicity. Left, right, triangle BOOM darkslide, an extremely difficult move in real life. It means you can do 200 trick moves with manuals, it means you can have FUN.

With realistic games e.g. Forza or Gran Turismo, the game is realistic yeah, but it's still possible for an experienced gamer to pick it up and roar round a track. In SKATE it takes realism TOO Far. It reminds me of, funnily enough after playing Tony Hawks 2, asking for a skateboard and realising: "This is hard", let alone do a darkslide. SKATE is an awkward control scheme, where the moves are also awkward. It'd be like making a skating game with a Wiimote (whoops, done before, failed miserably), the right analogue stick movement for kickflip and shove-it are too close together, the ollie move too complicated to move from that to a move.

Though, I did like the way you did a grind. It'd be like using Project 8's Nail The Trick (which I loved) onto a rail.

I have the same problem as you. What with RB saying its going back to 08 (I think it was at GC), so I traded in. My £30 a month + £13 left over from trade ins gets me Halo 3, and I bought Bioshock and 2000 Wii Points with the other trade in money

Don't get me wrong here, I love the Skate demo. I'm definitely going to be buying it. But Tony Hawk hasn't failed me much over the years. THAW doesn't exist in my eyes. The difficulty in Project 8 can be avoided. But when I think back to my first series I was hooked on from day one of launch, it's Tony Hawk. The first was always there in my N64, always in my PlayStation. I went months playing the first one when it came out without switching games. Even though the series went downhill (Jam?), I always have to think back to it's roots of what made it such a success. I bought the same game for different systems just to get those little exclusives (Perfect Grind on N64 THPS, Alien saying "Help me" PS THPS, Uncut lyrics THPS Dream Cast, Fly Mode THPS 2 PS, five new levels THPS 2x, DOOM Guy THPS 3 PC). I have never missed out on any Tony Hawk game, and to me Skate isn't a replacement, but more of what Downhill Jam, American Sk8land, and THUG 2 Remix are to their counterparts.

Use bolt.com It allows you to upload a whole bunch of file extensions YouTube doesn't. (I use YouTube, but only use bolt.com to upload videos YouTube won't allow)

I had an FLV converter, but it leaves a huge watermark on the screen. It's really bad quality, too.

Sigh, the idiocy of older gamers.

My first game was Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on a Mega Drive.

I then got Mario 64 and N64 on day of release (my Dad at the time was into games too). I also played OOT (I preordered and got a gold catridge - I made a nice £20 out of that later on). My PS2 came a bit late but my Xbox came as soon as it came out, experiencing Halo + Project Gotham Racing.

Ocarina of Time was a fantastic game. But today, the gameplay is clunky, the plot not timeless (and great games like halo + bioshock is all about the plot). Mario 64 shows brilliant platforming - but I could dig out a copy of Spyro The Dragon 2, which bettered it. Super Mario World - for, I have a wii and it on my VC, is a great game to do speedruns with, the same for Super Mario Bros 1 + 2, but its not as fun as a go on Alien Ressurection, the first decent console FPS.

The feeling of Halo was a lot for more timeless, for me. The gameplay still stands up today, and it puts a lot of console (and some PC) FPS's to shame. I've been to a massive Lanfest of Halo - just amazing. That is not to say, I still remember Zelda's Lullaby (left up right, left up right :)), but the feeling of playing a perfect FPS will beat a game which had clunky controls, but just felt special (OOT).

But hey, this is my opinion. But don't say I didn't play those games on release, cos guess what: I did. Mario 64 was 96 (I think... may be wrong with that) I was still playing it until the N64s death.

In the 16 bit (I think it was the 16 bit, correct me if I'm wrong) format wars, I was always a Sega fan. (I used to play some weird game called Dizzy, dunno if any of you know it) but when it came to 3D is went all a bit Playstation; but Mario Kart 64 was my first true multiplayer experience.

MotleyPriest111

What about Super Mario Allstars on the Super Nintendo? It came with every console version of Super Mario at that time!

If you missed out on GoldenEye, you missed out on gaming. GoldenEye was like today's Halo craze. Better than today's Halo craze! That was the best shooter/multiplayer game anyone ever had! If you had an N64, you had GoldenEye. If you had one controller, it means you didn't have any friends.

How about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 on the NES? That game was awesome to play when you stay up late (pfft like 9:00) and you're playing with your brother or friend in the dark with the TV down so your parents don't hear it. You all know what I'm talking about.

Supah Soul Brothas on the Nintendo 64. If you weren't alive long enough to be a gamer when this game was first released, see my GoldenEye paragraph. You missed out on the definition Nintendo party games (Other than Mario Party).

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater on any console. This was a biggie. If you didn't have this game in your collection, Skate will never be the same for you. There's nothing to compare the cool things you do in Skate with the awesome memories you have of first playing a Tony Hawk game.

Star Fox 64 is another one that everyone should have played. Not playing this game is a bad thing. You won't have those funny memories of Peppy talking to you. If you've never heard someone say "Do a barrel role!" to you, you missed out.

If you are a new game, and you hadn't played any of these games, too bad. You're too late to experience all of these the way they should be. If you play GoldenEye now and try to compare it to Halo (by saying "Halo has grenades and guns at the same time omigah!") you're not experiencing GoldenEye. You're experiencing nothing and it makes me sick.

Jesus christ, what a lunatic. The idiocy of some older gamers again. You're just like someone who says: "You know what computers suck... I'm gonna go play noughts and crosses on a piece of paper".

Goldeneye was a decent enough game. It was the first game to have a zoomed sniper rifle, but it didn't have the same impact as Halo. For you, maybe - but the game was quickly beaten by PS1 FPS.

Starfox 64 goes up there with overrated-ness. I played this game back in the N64 days, it was... hmm I wasn't a huge fan. However, I dug it out again thanks to some PC Emulater, and it doesn't hold up. For a game to be truly decent, you have to say: Does it hold up today?

OOT is a good game, it holds up today, but the graphics are blocky, and the controls are clunky. With 2D games like Sonic, the blocky visuals makes it more endearing to ultra-realism, but with OOT it doesn't quite work.

About the SNES... Mega Drive was just a lot better I thought (America calls it a genesis I think?)

And Super Soul Brothas... that doesn't standup.

And THE VERY REASON WHY I HATE THE SKATE DEMO IS TONY HAWK'S 3. I owned every Tony Hawk (I left out one travesty... I dare not speak its name... it shall only be known as THAW) and 3 has always, and will always, be the best skateboarding game. So, to go mess around with such a simple formula and then overcomplicate proceedings so its almost as hard as skateboarding itself shows where EA went wrong... again (sweet merciful god dont let EA ruin the beauty of HMX's work... not yearly Rock Band: "Hey its Rock Band 2010... why is it exactly the same except with better graphics?")

McDeezy

Skate's controls are very good once you get them down. I agree that 3 and 4 were the absolute best Tony Hawk games but Skate deserves some fans. The game is fun and realistic. Tony Hawk got to ridiculous to the point it wasn't even skateboarding anymore (running up walls then backflip 180 into nata spin while tieing your shoe and chewing a pack of gum). Skate is so fresh. I love it.

wow, i guess i'm a bit late to the party. i didn't want to play "Yet Another Skating Game", so I just pretended that skate. didn't exist. But after reading about the controls, watching a few vids, I downloaded the demo and checked it out... Gotta' say, I'm VERY impressed. A lot more grounded than THPS series has become, although I still dig out THUG for some combat modes with friends, and the Dreamcast for some oldschool fun.

skate. is definitely a welcomed breath of fresh air for me, at least. Controls, while tough to retrain yourself from the THPS school of gameplay, are WAY more rewarding.

Played the demo for about three hours and i've gotten pretty good at it, I uploaded a video to skate.ea.com and watched it, was surprised at how fast it got uploaded and how smooth it was. Probably going to play it some more later too, It's far more advanced than any Tony Hawk game i've seen so far. Don't really care what most of you say but THAW was probably the best TH game, had just about any trick imaginable and the new BMX bikes (which kinda sucked to be totally honest). Only TH games I really enjoyed were THAW and THUG. THUG2 was basically "Jackass" on skateboards, That's probably another reason I hate "BAM", Little brat has to take over everything and turn it into complete S--T.

As far as SKATE goes, everything is beautiful. Right amount of bloom, the animations are flawless. Especially when you're stalling on something and able to move your board and such, If anyone has a 360 or PS3 (if it's up on PSN now) then download it, even if you hate skating games. Just the way the game handles is a complete amazement.
