So since this is probably not very rock and probably very techno, I figured i'd post a bit of a mix im working on...

I doubt many people here listen to techno whatsoever, but I remember there being a few.. Im mixing this for a big party coming up, were housewrecking our place because they're gonna tear it down in late april, a couple DJ's in town showed some interest in spinning that night.. it should be nuts.

Some of the songs I really like, some of them not so much but I know they'll pack the floor.

So I present, Roborimshots. Enjoy. Or hate, whatever

Jesus it's a pretty big file for a music song (50 megs!?)

Its not one song.. It's a mix. In the end it will be an hour long, right now it's about 30 minutes. First you collect the songs you want to use, then mix them together into one big package, render it as an MP3.. There's 7 songs in it so far which is why it's so big.

What songs have you incorporated into it? (Listening to it right now)

Tracklist:
Relaunched - DJ Jean (Remix of "The Launch")
Ensure - Re-Ward (Love this song)
Fasten Your Seatbelts - Pendulum (Another favorite of mine)
Something Good Just Happened - Utah Saints vs Van She Tech (For the ladies)
I Don't Care (Instrumental Mix) - Jurgensen vs BSD (Dance beatz)
Hustle Up - John Dahlblock (Another dancer)
And Then... - Rank 1 vs. Jochen Miller(Repetitive but badass)
Perfect Exceeder - Mason vs Princess Superstar (Uch.. absolute barstar song.. for the girls. Sick beat though, wasted on craptacular vocals.)

Im still just learning how to mix... Working on transitions which is just mixing one into the next, but im pretty happy with it so far. Just another half hour to fill in.

Sounds pretty good. Maybe you should squeeze some Freezepop in there.

This tends to be music you have to listen to for a while to start to appreciate... There is a LOT of crappy techno out there, i'd say out of every 50 songs I hear theres maybe one or two I think are unique and those are the ones I keep.

I don't expect many people to enjoy it, after all these are the rock band forums.. But it's a taste of what's big right now and what was big back in the day. Plus its a fun hobby :)

I can't listen to this from work, but I'm curious.

I used to spin a bit and my roommate still does.

Are you doing this with tables or are you using a computer program like Ableton Live?

Im using Acid Pro 6. Awesome program, good layout and perfect for what im doing.

I want to start actually spinning but I lack the equipment and the money to get some. My brother used to DJ a lot back in the day in local clubs so i'd have the help.

A lot of people are going straight digital now though, midi controllers and laptop, nothing physical. No vinyl, no CD's. I would probably go that route if i was to get more into it, but Acid works fine for now. Give it a listen when you get home, theres some bomb tracks on there.

Honestly, I am pretty old school. I have no problem at all with people making mixes on their computers. Hell, my roommate pumps out a new hour-long mix every week with Ableton. He downloads tracks from a site called Beatport. I guess it has an unbelievable selection. You should check that out. But when performing live, there is nothing like spinning vinyl. Sure, it is waaay more expensive, but it sounds better. Plus, it is so much more visceral.

I'll give your mix a listen when I get home and let you know what I think. Keep at it man.
