2 more shared songs between GHIII and RB...

Don't really hate any of the songs.. but I was expecting more considering how tight lipped they've been. Deep Purple is the only HUGE band in the list and they were in GH1 and 2.

Can't say I like, "European versions of Rock Band will also be getting localized content for the different countries in the region, both downloadable and on-disc." part.

You beat me to it. I'm guessing it's gotta be true. I still like having official confirmation on this website or from a HMX rep in the forums...

Nevertheless, I guess that makes life less expensive for those who were upgrading systems just to play this game, but I'd say upgrade anyway - DLC, online, and so much more.

Awesome new songs (IMO):
Faith No More -- "Epic" (would prefer different FNM, but I'll take it)
Radiohead -- "Creep"
Nine Inch Nails -- "The Hand That Feeds"

The rest are good too:

Rolling Stones -- "Gimme Shelter"
Deep Purple -- "Highway Star"
The Clash -- "Should I Stay or Should I Go"
Smashing Pumpkins -- "Cherub Rock"
Beastie Boys -- "Sabotage"
Jet -- "Are You Gonna Be My Girl"
OK Go -- "Here It Goes Again"

But I'll wait for a more official announcement before I get too excited.

Can't say I like, "European versions of Rock Band will also be getting localized content for the different countries in the region, both downloadable and on-disc." part.

I agree, but hopefully, we'll see some of that same stuff over here. I want it all.

Yeah, I know. It's just having Faith No More in Rock Band, it's almost impossible for me to believe. And I can't believe they kept the PS2 version quiet so long. If that's being announced, then the rumored Wii version will probably be announced next.

Why is Europe being treated differently for content that is not right who ever came up with that idea needs to have their head tested and needs to re-think that big time.. because that has put me off buying the game now I was interested in rock band for the tracks that had been announced including the new tracks now announced only to find we in Europe will be having a different list that's BS

I'm not a fan of having the duplicate songs either. With so many songs to pick from, why are there so many duplicates? There are plenty of Smashing Pumpkins songs to choose from. At least Sabotage makes a lot more sense in Rock Band.

yeah, Sabotage will be way more fun in RB... when it says ps2 will feature "many" of the modes I wonder if that means it'll be taking a hit in the online department?

"European versions of Rock Band will also be getting localized content for the different countries in the region, both downloadable and on-disc."

I'm GUESSING they'd get the same content that US gets (it'd be foly if they didn't), but with some non-english stuff thrown in there as well.. However, I really hope they allow us to get the euro stuff for DLC if we like, and it's not got some non-rock zone restriction to it.

That would eat balls for breakfast.

It needs to be made clear as to what they mean by localised content and where on the disc it's going.. if it's bonus tracks fair enough but i don't want the main track list messed with Rock band interested me for what they had listed and the new tracks they have announced now it seems Europe may not get that.. HMXsean can you clear this up please at least say we in Europe get the same main track list.. :(

I don't see what the big deal is about shared music between RB and GH is. Even if you master the guitar parts in GH there's still the drums and the singing parts to the songs in RB. But I agree with most people on Cherub Rock, you'd think they'd put something else by the Smashing Pumpkins in. Most people that I've seen on this forum put down Bullet With Butterfly Wings for a Smashing Pumpkins song they want in this game anyway. But the anounced songs are an improvement, I can't wait to play Gimme Shelter when this game comes out.

Songs choices seem pretty good and the list is shaping up nicely, but I'm really bummed RB didn't get a different Smashing Pumpkins song. I really wanted Zero or at least something different than in GH.

Also disappointed there was no Iron Maiden announced at this European event. I'm gonna cry if there's no Maiden announced. Gimme Wasted Years or else!!!!!

I'd like to see an updated decade breakdown. It still seems light on 80s songs.

This makes no sense. If europe and US are getting a different tracklist of main songs, then how can you play on live (on 360 anyway) with people from US if playing in europe or vice versa? To my knowledge thats never happened on any live game before

And I guess now us in europe definitly arnt getting RB until after xmas?? great.........

Good news indeed. I kinda wish as a community that we would get announcements before I read them on gamespot, but what can ya do.

I sent this info over to my buddy who is now going for Rock Band for the PS2 instead of GHIII. I'm still getting both, regardless of the duplicate tracks.

ThePaska

Not bad, I'm glad the stones and Smashing Pumpkins are both in it now. I'm not very pleased that there are now 5 songs that both these games have in common.

Rolling Stones -- ?Gimme Shelter?
Deep Purple -- "Highway Star"
The Clash -- ?Should I Stay or Should I Go?
Faith No More -- "Epic?
Smashing Pumpkins -- ?Cherub Rock?
Radiohead -- ?Creep?
Beastie Boys -- ?Sabotage?
Jet -- ?Are You Gonna Be My Girl?
OK Go -- ?Here It Goes Again?
Nine Inch Nails -- ?The Hand That Feeds?

Gimme Shelter is awesome, Should I Stay or Should I Go, Cherub Rock, Creep (wow Sushi is going to be pretty happy there is some radio head huh, didn't you say you didn't like creep though?) Are you Gonna Be My Girl, Here It Goes Again, The Hand That Feeds, those are all some sweet songs.

I'm going to just remind everyone that even though these songs are more of the well known things from these artists, all this really does is open up the possibilities of DLC songs and Albums from these artists of even more great songs. I like to think of it as taking on the Band and not the song because more than likely we'll be seeing more songs from each of these artists sometime down the road, which will be sweet!

I kind of think it is funny that this game is now coming out for PS2, and that is announced before a Wii version, almost as if they only did it just because Guitar Hero is. Anyways I'll still be buying a 360 and not a PS2 as I need that DLC and all aspects of the game, not a half version.

On disc content is something we have discussed on the forums, and I guess it is coming true. Very interesting, I wonder how much of the content that is released for download will make its way to disc.

Given that the song is in both GH and RB, I would be willing to bet that the record label isn't giving them a choice of which TSP song they can license (or they are, but the other choices suck). I'm just happy they got some TSP song in RB.

Cool...

After playing the game for about an hour, we are very, very, very, very, very happy to report (can you tell we're happy?) that the latest iteration of the guitar feels much better than the earlier versions we played with, which quite frankly felt like cheap toys. The buttons and flapper feel much more responsive, and the guitar itself has more weight than the previous prototype. It also sports slightly raised plastic bumps on the middle button as well as the two outside buttons, so you can feel what "frets" your fingers are currently on when you're playing.

Well, the new Smashing Pumpkins album has 4 different versions. 3 with a bonus song each that are for specific retailers, and the 4th for everyone else with no bonus song. And, if you want the title track you have to buy it from WalMart.

So, either SP or their label are wads...

I was just looking at the full setlist and with about 14 songs left to announce, while the 70s 90s and 2000s are all about even in songs, the 80s and the especially the 60s are truly lacking, which is why I'm going to make the obvious guess that most of the not to be announced songs are 60s and 80s!

I'm just saying if they're so stingy that the title track of their new album can only be bought at WalMart, it wouldn't surprise me if they only let rhythm games license one song.

hey..hey..hey..hey!!!...what's going on??? I just got to work and what do I see?? new song list??!! I leave the forums for a few hours and this happens.

Was hoping to see somebody from Harmonix in the thread to make this official...

All the posts I've seen him blab about on Radiohead, he is most adament about not having Creep in the game.

I for one, am happy for the songs. Faith No More is a great song.

And when will all the 'ZOMG ROCK BAND COPIED GUITAR HERO!!!!'. Threads start? There was alot of GH bashing when those 3 songs were announced. Maybe people should think more that they aren't coping, they just don't know what other songs the other company is choosing.

You guys here have been saying "OMG WHERE'S THE ANNOUCEMENTS" for a couple weeks now. 10 songs... 25% of the setlist announced today. That's not only the bomb, that's friggin' nuclear!

The PS2 piece is curious though. I have never seen a situation where an additional console was thrown into the mix mid-course. It says to me:

They are way ahead of schedule and had time to do it.

or

They found an effective method to port all of their existing work.

In conclusion, awesome. I'm off to YouTube to see if any of these announced songs are any good. Never heard of any of them except for the GH3 ones.

Wow. I knew something was coming, but damn this still seems like a huge surprise out of nowhere. Some good stuff here, will have to give some songs listen first before I can say for sure though...

Oh, and would just like to say that I totally called 'Creep' as the on-disc radiohead song if we were going to get one. It's the most widely recognized radiohead song...but at least this opens up the possibility for DLC we can hope...

Six of these ten songs were on my list of "songs I hoped were in the game", and the other four are not too shabby.

Plus, for the people upset that the "wrong song" was picked for their band -- hey, at least the band/label is onboard, which means we might get the "right song" as DLC. :D

Thank you for pointing this out!!!Do you hear this whiners? You can't expect any given song from any given band to make it on the disc...that's what DLC is for! I suggested London Calling and wanted to see that, but Should I Stay or Should I Go should be fun. It's this DLC idea that Rock Band is pushing that gives me hope that even if my favorite song isn't announced by the artist, it could still be coming later. I can't really be disappointed at all with song announcements unless I hate the artist.

I may have something else to say once the horror and shock wears off. All I can say right now is....

Why did they pick Creep?

Oh dear lord! Why did they pick Creep!!!???!!! :(

Edit: OK, I got another cup of coffee in me and had a chance to think about the songs more:

Rolling Stones -- ?Gimme Shelter? - Great song
Deep Purple -- "Highway Star" OK
The Clash -- ?Should I Stay or Should I Go? - Awesome, super excited for this one
Faith No More -- "Epic? - I already feel embarrassed for the singer on this one, but it is also nostalgic for me. But do I really want to remember high school?
Smashing Pumpkins -- ?Cherub Rock? - This will be a fun song. Excited for this one.
Radiohead -- ?Creep? - At least its Radiohead? *cry's*
Beastie Boys -- ?Sabotage? - Secretly really excited for this one. It will rock!
Jet -- ?Are You Gonna Be My Girl? - Another fun song to play
OK Go -- ?Here It Goes Again? - OK
Nine Inch Nails -- ?The Hand That Feeds? - Hell yes!

Rolling Stones -- ?Gimme Shelter?

Deep Purple -- "Highway Star"

The Clash -- ?Should I Stay or Should I Go?

Faith No More -- "Epic?

HAvent heard it.

Smashing Pumpkins -- ?Cherub Rock?

YESSSSSSS! Me and My friend wanted this song so bad in RB because the drums and vocals were so awesome.

Radiohead -- ?Creep?

WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYY?

Beastie Boys -- ?Sabotage?

YEESSSS! This is the other GH3 song I really wanted here. Rapping is this song will be ****ing awesome.

Jet -- ?Are You Gonna Be My Girl?

Classic.

OK Go -- ?Here It Goes Again?

Good song.

Nine Inch Nails -- ?The Hand That Feeds?

I know alot of people are happy about this.

Damn, you know what I just thought about? Seeing as not too many people are excited about the Radiohead song that was picked.... Radiohead is actually in Rock Band now and of all the DLC albums that have been announced so far (officially and unofficially), they've all been from the albums that the song in the main setlist resides.... So we're a hell of a lot closer to receiving more Radiohead (through dlc) than ever now. And if Harmonix does decide to put in Radiohead dlc it'll probably be the Pablo Honey album....... I'd rather have OK Computer personally but hey, it is more Radiohead....

I agree completely. I got the news in the form of a email link that said there was Radiohead in RB, so I got really excited and then swore loudly when I saw what the song was. My only redeeming thought is, well at least now that there's some Radiohead, maybe we'll get The Bends or OK Comp. for DLC. Anything but more Pablo Honey DLC, which would seem to fit the trend of DLC albums for the songs on the disc...

sushi111

But what if this the only Radiohead song they could get. Ive only seen no Suprises besides creep on any other game.

And I seriously think even No Suprises would have been 2x funner on drums and vocals and guitar and bass.

The only thing thats worse than Creep is having Pablo Honey as DLC.

Even I wouldnt download it.

The rest of the announced songs were amazing though. Like really amazing. Highway Star, Cherub Rock, Should I Stay or Should I Go, Sabotage, The Hend that Feeds, Gimme Shelter. I could not have picked a better setlist... Except unless I was in charge of Radiohead song picks.

I hope the PS2 version is online enabled with the same DLC as the xbox and PS3 versions. Does anyone have info on this?

I can't see any technical reason why this couldn't happen. All new PS2s have a network port and a cheap 1 or 2GB USB stick could be plugged into the PS2 to store the songs.

We know there's a radio edit for 'Creep', which sings...

You're so very special

So I am sure that will be the recorded vocal track. When the kids aren't around, I'll turn down the vocal track and have fun with the real lyrics.

OK, sush111, man up and lay it on the line. What is the ONE Radiohead track you would have put on the setlist? None of this, "Well this would have worked nice, but this is really cool also..." Just name the track, like Harmonix did.

There is no content distribution platform that exists for the PS2 like Xbox Live or whatever they call it for the PS3, so having DLC for the PS2 would require a substantial investment in infrastructure. EA could theoretically do it, but given that the PS2 is on its way out of fashion, it seems unlikely.

But then again, I would have figured that Rock Band on the PS2 at all was unlikely.

In regards to the doubled up tracks, i'm starting to believe whoever said it's most likely a record label issue..

Coz if you think about it, they can either sell the same song to two companies... or they can sell SongA and SongB to CompanyA and B respectively, but in doing so effectively reduce the chances of being able to sell SongA to CompanyB or SongB to CompanyA in the future. (eg. the odds of a RockBand launch song making it into next year's GH4 is pretty damn slim)

Although, when it comes to the Beasties.. Sabotage is probably the only logical choice at all.

I bet if we somehow looked at all licensed music that has appeared in video games in the last 7-8 years, there would be a significant number of artists who have the same song appearing in different games.

For example, the following songs appeared in the NHL series of games and in GH:

Sum 41 - Fat Lip
QOTSA - No One Knows
Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out

But I could also name 20 more songs that would have been much better than creep.

I think we're gonna have to settle for the fact that the initial setlist is largely going to be the well known tracks from bands, so that there'll be ample singers at launch. Hopefully DLC will fill in the gaps for those needing more for their guitar or drums fix.

Yeah I hope thats the case.

Seriously Ive cooled down and Im happy that Radiohead is in, Creep or not. Im just really upset that Creep is the only Radiohead song people are going to hear from this game. Hopefully that will get them to listen to more of Radioheads stuff.

You never know, maybe we'll get some Radiohead DLC, but probably not.:(

Great tracklist so far, Creep is fine. I'm sure they'll be more Radiohead later, though I doubt PH will be a downloadable album.

Really?

Besides obvious stuff like Creep I feel like alot of these picks are inspired.

WGFA isntead of My Generation

In Bloom instead of SLTS

A Nine Inch Nails song;)

Gimme Shelter

Epic.

Very good stuff.

Six of these ten songs were on my list of "songs I hoped were in the game", and the other four are not too shabby.

Plus, for the people upset that the "wrong song" was picked for their band -- hey, at least the band/label is onboard, which means we might get the "right song" as DLC. :D

This guy has it right. Stay positive people! I think this quote needs to go up top where it says "Welcome to the official Rockband Website"

I'd give guitar hero 3 a slight advantage still, Rock Band is right there but I am afraid that if GH3 pulls La Villa Strangiato on me Rock Band loses forever.

I give the nod to GH3 for the best announced tracklist so far...by a huge margin. RB should ultimately be more fun because there's more instruments to play though. Still let down that neither game has announced any ACDC yet.

Well, there are plenty of 60s and 80s songs left, if Rock Band is intending to split the songs equally.

No Slayer announced yet, a bit dissapointed with that, but will see. Drumming and playing guitar with Slayer songs would be awsome.

Atleast get some guitar playing with them in GH3.

I like that Radiohead song, like someone said before me it makes me sing along. just not sure if i wuld do that into a microphone hehe. Or when anyone can hear me for that matter.

Probably just a test run for the wii version, and any features that they want to test out before bringing to next-gen consoles.

In my very humble opinion, no...it is not. Not if the DLC turns out to be even half of what they are planning...now...if they somehow came out with expansion discs for ps2 owners that had some or all of the DLC on it, maybe...

Wow some great tracks announced! Gimme Shelter is probably my favourite of the bunchsince it's one of my favourite tracks of all time. As a huge Radiohead fan I'm glad to see that they're in the game. As others have said I was hoping they would go for something a little less obvious than Creep, but hopefully we'll get some more Radiohead via DLC at a later date. Still hoping we'll see some tracks from The Stooges, Pixies, Bloc Party, and the mighty Zep as well.

WTF is with OK Go... They're not even that much of a good band. Really, just wasted space in my opinion, they could've been replaced with a much better artist.

HMX said they wanted to span all kinds of music from southern rock to goth rock. If they're not lying, then I'd better see my Skynrd and Bauhaus.

The list so far looks like MTV threw up on most of it. Oh well, I guess I'll wait for some decent DLC then... oh yeah and Siva > Cherub Rock, honestly.

I agree with you here. I think the 40 main tracks are all going to be mainstream tracks that will appeal to a wide audience and to people who aren't extreme music enthusiast. So Creep and Epic were the only two possible tracks by FMN and Radiohead. I can live with that, since those are two of my favorite bands - and it opens up the DLC possibilities. Although, I have to agree putting Pablo Honey as DLC would be completely stupid. I LOVE Radiohead, but Creep is about the only song I listen to from PH. In my opinion, Radiohead became "Radiohead" on "The Bends" album. But I'd gladly take "The Real Thing" as DLC.

I expect album DLC to be the place for more obscure music, but DLC singles will possibly be more of the main stream stuff. Final speculation: I doubt there will be any metal in the 40 main tracks (unless you count "Enter Sandman" as metal - I don't), but hopefully we'll be given the option to purchase some as DLC. I really hope the lack of a double bass drum doesn't keep metal completely out of the game. I'm not a metal fanatic, but I'd like some just for variety. I'll keep asking for it til it comes true: "Rust in Peace" album DLC.

Now, I just need to find some way to hibernate until RB and GH3 come out. Maybe then I wouldn't need to sleep in November.

I check the RB forums everyday and, of course, the one day I'm gone all day for band practice, I'm the last one in the world to see the new info. Nah, I'm not that bothered, it was a nice surprise when I got home, but, I'm on the forums looking at RB stuff when I should be sleepin'.:D

10 new songs!!!! Just a little more and we'll have a full list sooner or later. I love the newly announced songs a lot. They're all good songs, to me anyway, but I know how some are complaining about a few of them. I'm surprised they put OkGo in, I mean, I love that song, but I would have never expected the song to come out on RB. I'm excited for this game for myself, but also because I host cast parties for my theatre group at school(which are awesome) and usually we swim, eat, watch movies, T or D, and play GH, but with RB coming out, thats gonna be the main attraction at the parties now and songs like "Here It Goes Again" and "Are you Gonna Be My Girl" are songs that many recognize and would have fun playing. I see a lot of the songs and features from a party-sort-of view and I think, in a way, HMX looks at it the same way; not all enitrely good songs that appeals to the rock mass, but fun to play with friends, bands, and such. I'm freakin' even more psyched for this game now, if that's even possible.

I went back and listened to it also, and I remember back in 90' MTV played the CRAP outta this video. - I got sick of hearing this song after the first few times I heard it and never looked back.

As much as I love Mike Patton - I'll be playing this one with the volume on low. :p
