Yes it matters. It should matter. Its not because of marketing, or labels. If you were a musician, and you were gonna break the walls of a genre, you'd have to know the specific traits of that genre.

Also, because its obvious, things need names.

haha, so u're saying all musicians pick a specific genre and say to themselves "ok, its decided. we're gonna revolutionize (insert genre here). this is what we need to copy..." musicians are influenced by other musicians. then they create their own sound and music. i dont think they are too worried about what genre their record label defines them as. (unless its pop, thats a whole different story)

First of all, thats not what I mean. You are using your own preconceptions.

Second of all, well, like the first, thats not what Im saying AT ALL. And I dont think what I said is really that hard to follow, so dont reply "so whats your point?"

so you've come in here to say that they should specify what genre the music actually is, its fine if you want to bro, but if the dude wants to call it stoner psychedelic rock, then thats purely down to him just let it be ;) let it concern you not and if it does bother you that much you got a problem.

its not up to him to label wolfmother as psych rock. in that case i wanna label the beatles black metal cuz the beatles rule and so does black metal so yeah i'm gonna label them black metal from now on

Well, Mind's Eye would kind of fit under Psych Rock. And then there was The Earth's Rotation Around the Sun from the Dimensions EP (although that was an instrumental).

But labeling the band as Psych Rock is stupid. They're a Hard Rock band with minor Psychedlic influences.

No, what I said was that a musician has to actually know what the hell he is playing in order to experiment.. Meaning that there ARE genres, different styles, with different rules. So, logically, if these things exist, they gotta have names. Yes, we all agree grunge doesn't exist and it was a huge marketing ploy. Thats not what Im saying.

If he mentions something thats not phychedelic rock, he should be corrected.

Saying something kinda like "it sounds like like this genre", then saying "I dont care what you label it as", its very different than not knowing what the hell you are talking about.

Mostly when people dont care about labels is because they know **** about music so they dont know how to interpret what they are listening to. In that respect it has NOTHING to do with some hippie ideal that we are all the same, a **** labels, and all that crap.

wow, so unless u can define the EXACT genre of a band, don't even bother mentioning them, cause he won't know what he's listening to. i can usually tell what i'm listening to cuase i have ears...and a brain.

How about reading a post before comenting? I heard that helps doing a little something called UNDERSTANDING.

Every music student will tell you that most experimental, breaking the rules kind of stuff is written by morons who dont even know the rules they are breaking.

This has nothing to do with me listening to a band and if I cant define them i dont like it. This discussion isnt about that. At least Im not talkiing about that. If you wanna talk about that though, knock yourself out.

hey its cool man, i do "understand" what u're TRYing to say about how artists work within the characteristics of their style of music. however, i still disagree with you, especially on "every music student will tell you that most experimental, breaking the rules kind of stuff is written by morons who dont even know the rules they are breaking." thats a ludicrous generalization. on the 2nd page u say "a musician actually has to know what the hell he is playing in order to experiment." thats just plain contradictory to what u're trying to get me to "understand."

Why is it contradictory. In both things Im saying that you need to know the rules of what you play in order to break those rules. I dont see why saying the same thing is contradictory.

Yes, its a disgusting, lewd generalization, but so what? Its mostly true that everything that labels itself as "experimental" just sounds like its pointless and goes nowhere.

Okay, ignoring the little tidbits flying back and forth, I agree that having Zep, Floyd and the Beatles would be great. Let's be honest with ourselves and admit that there is almost no way we will see any Led Zeppelin. If you look under the post Set List I have suggested quite a few Zeppelin songs I would like to see on the game, but admit that Page will probably never sell the rights. Pink Floyd is more likely, as they have done commercials and movie soundtracks back in the day. The problem is that Gilmour and Waters may not be fully reconciled. The only issue with the Beatles is that Michael Jackson bought the rights out from under McCartney's nose. Let's hope he's not too busy doing whatever the heck he does to at least consider pleasing all of us classic rock fans.

Ok guy, when some game company wants your song in their game, you are not selling the rights to the song to them. If that were the case, Harmonix would be producing and selling to us all the albums were all the songs in the games appear.

Amen to that :)

Floyd, a must! Shine On You Crazy Diamond would be one of my choices, but a long song.

Goodbye Blue Sky, just because it's my favorite song.

Zeppelin...oh my....just Zeppelin. Any song, I wouldn't mind.

Beatles, once again, any song by them.

Haven't heard much of The Darkness....

Seriously...nothing...no solos, rythyms or anything sounds better or is more perfect for games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero than the 60s/70s style of jamming on the guitar...long solos...and solos and songs with real feeling and soul.

Not these 3 min, rock/pop radio songs...

I do enjoy a few The Darkness songs...

Givin' Up
I Beleive In A Thing Called Love
Girl With The Hazel Eyes

although they can be a little weird at times, especially the lead singer.

People think psychedelic music is any music created on drugs. man, that would mean EVERYTHING is psychedelic. lol

People just dont know what it is they are listening too. Which is sad. We are in the internet age. You can go anywhere, find the info, listen to the actual music in the bands website, and learn what it is that makes it this and that.
