View Full Version : Quick Singing Question

Now, I've heard in solos the singer has to hit the mic like a tamborine of w.e.

But, I have a mic stand in my loft, and I'm the best guitarist in my band, but with the announcement of "Creep", I REALLY wanna go singer and guitar on it.

Will there be an option to turn off the "hit the mic during a solo" arrangement while i go ROKKING the guitar ;)

If the mic picks up those tamborine parts via sound (which it probably does) why not just make a slight sound into the mic?

It's been stated you can sing and play another instrument at the same time, so there must be a way to turn it off somehow.

According to the IGN Preview, no. Missing the tambourine parts won't break your combo, but they will affect your percentage and your score.

I thought you had to hit it...

Well thats what they would like you to do. I honestly don't see how the mic will know that you hit it versus you singing into it.

You could probably just yell into it too. I think it just needs to pickup on an extremely loud sound (simulated by hitting it with your hand)

Perhaps if you blew into the mic with short poofs or something, though that may take all the air out of you heh.

I hate the whole Tambourine idea... Period.

Ever see Rob Halfred break out a tambourine during a K.K. solo?

I was thinking the exact same thing, in donkey konga, my friend doesnt want to look like a loser playing it, so instead of clapping he just taps the mic a little, But I might play the game as it was intended to be played at first, then experiment

might work

That'll be great. You'll probably find me during a solo going "AHH! AHH! AHH! AHH!"

How do you suppose the drum heads know you've hit them instead of yelling at them? Why wouldnt it be able to tell the difference?

Because the drum heads have touch sensors, while the mic doesn't (it can't, if RB's going to support standard USB microphones). The question is just what sound the mic needs to hear to register a tap. This is important for me because I want to have our singer actually playing cowbell or tambourine over that part; cowbell should work, but I'm not sure about tambourine.

I recall one HMX employee (I forget which) recently saying that he could tap his feet to the tamborine beat and it would register for those microphone parts.

I believe it was Sean who said that, it should also be noted that hose extra beats, whether tambourine or otherwise (cowbell etc..) can only help you, not hitting them will not hurt your score in anyway, if I remember correctly. I personally am not too worried about hitting them.

Wasn't was hmxsean who said he taps the base of the mic stand with his foot? But it's not a motion or touch sensor thing, the vibrations from being hit are essentially a noise to the microphone.

Found it (http://community.rockband.com/vbforum/showpost.php?p=82689&postcount=14)

Here is the post he made.

You don't have to tap the mic during those parts. The crowd meter isn't penalized if you don't at any rate. You just lose out on bonus points for getting it right.

What I do (I love playing guitar and singing at the same time) is play with the mic in a mic stand and set the sensitivity up (you can do this in game). Then during tambourine/cowbell sections I tap my foot on the base of the mic stand in time. That generally works out pretty well.

lol That was funny. I haven't seen you around here in a while KingColon, you used to post a lot.

Anyway, yeah, I think the whole cowbell/tambo thing sounds annoying and should be taken out. Well, maybe not taken out entirely, just not affect your score in any way. Although Sean did say the beats were for "bonus points" so I guess if you're not really going for an uber high score...

They've officially said that you can say something like "pop" to register a tambourine. I figured i would just snap my fingers near my headset toregister, but then i realized i'd be using both my hands. Oh well, I guess "pop" it is.

I also remember someone at HMX saying you could just yell, "POW" or something like that and it'll register... pretty lame lol. I'll be tapping the mic stand with my foot fo' sho'!

EDIT** yep /\/\ JohnnyFAS has got it! That's what I thought

Uhh... That was posted way back in August. The "official confirmation" was after that, so nobody knew.
