From IGN:
March 6, 2008 - Activision today announced two new track packs for Guitar Hero III, one of which is available as of today. The Modern Metal pack contains the tracks "Hole in the Earth" by the Deftones, Avenged Sevenfold's "Almost Easy" and Thrice's "The Arsonist", all of which are the studio master recordings. The pack is now available on Xbox Live Marketplace and is slated to hit the PlayStation Network as part of Sony's weekly update later today.
Activision will also be celebrating St. Patrick's Day with the release of a free track pack from the Celtic punk band Dropkick Murphys. Three master songs from the band's sixth album, "The Meanest of Times" will hit with this pack, including "Famous for Nothing", "(F)lannigan's Ball" and "Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ya". The pack will be free on both Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network, and is slated for release in mid-March. St. Patrick's Day is March 17, as always, though with that being a Monday and PlayStation Network releases scheduled for Thursdays, we may see the pack as early as the 14th.

Wow, those are real popular songs!! I bet there is someone out there who has heard them before. WTF, can't GH3 get some popular rock songs?? Also, who was the genius who came up with No Doubt dlc, LOL???? Do they think 12yr old girls are GHs target audience??

No "Shipping up to Boston"? Oh well, I guess it's more of a Bagpipe Hero song anyway.
And "Tessie" would be pretty fun on Rock Band. (For us Red Sox fans, anyway)

wow, Activision has been putting out more songs lately. I hope this makes HMX put out more good songs and/or more packs.

I believe that's why the predicted dlc was so wrong, because they ARE trying to release better stuff to compete with GH. More recent songs from more recent bands, the Grateful Dead 6 pack, who knows what's next? And no, no Who. -_-

LOL, better stuff?? You call this weeks total crap DLC better stuff?? Better stuff would be: GnR, Boston, Journey, Rage aTM, Zepplin, Beatles, Def Lep, Heart, some good(popular) 80's hair metal, Bon Jovi, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Cream, Bad Company, more Sabbath, Skynyrd, Eagles.....the list goes on and on. They have an almost endless list of very popular songs they could have choosen. Instead we got songs that I bet less then 1% of the RB audience has even heard of.

1% of the audience? You've got to be kidding. Crushcrushcrush itself has almost 5 million hits, Serj is the lead singer from SOAD, and Shockwave is just plain fun. The point of dlc is to introduce people to new music, not just the commercialized stuff. I like quite a few of the bands you've listed, and I'm sure it's on the way. The dlc this week was half off, and it's a promoting a show in Fresno.
Another thing, don't assume because I compliment this week's songs doesn't mean I want the bands you listed. The schedule they have at HMX isn't a "Oh, if we pick song A then song B can't get in." We still have 9 months worth of songs to go. ^_^
