I just 5 starred every song on expert... and I got... nothing! There should really be rewards for pulling off things like 5 starring every song on any difficulty... maybe it unlocks an instrument or something.

If you in it for just the bragging rights then you did it for the wrong reasons...

on the other hand... if it was just a shirt that said "W00t I did it'' you'd still be pissed.

Er? Bragging rights? That's pretty different than what I'm saying. I'm saying giving some kind of reward to players for accomplishing things. In Guitar Hero III you unlock guitars when you 5 star all songs. Why not put something like that in Rock Band? Unlocking stuff is a really fun aspect in a lot of games. I think it would definitely add to the single player replay value if you could unlock cool new instruments/clothes by accomplishing certain things.

Maybe here's a better way to pose it: Why SHOULDN'T they do this?

I've been able to unlock cool new instruments/clothes by using this thing called "money" that you earn by playing gigs.

He obviously means unique instruments that can't be regularly bought and have to be earned, like in GH 3. Don't be a dick.

And I agree with you. I'm disappointed RB doesn't have 5-star rewards. Are there achievements for 5-starring on 360 at least ?

Good point Putts. You make a lot of sense, I think GH 3 is so hard because it's only one instrument and making th achievments so hard gives you something to work towards for longer - giving it more replay-ability. RB doesn't need that because they have new DLC and 4 instruments to choose from. Or at least that's my logical explanation, haha.

I suppose they had to leave the five-starring rewards out for other achievements, oh well.

I think you unlock different loading screens the more you 5 Star songs...

I just went through playing the whole Guitar Solo Tour. Five Staring all the songs but two. and have seen two new loading screens I've never seen before. But then, I haven't seen them again since then. Maybe some are just more rare than others...

One thing I thought was silly is that you get the same unlockable instrument whether you finish solo tour on Medium, Hard, or Expert. After I finished medium and got my golden instrument I was excited to see what I would get when I beat hard, but sure enough, just the same golden instrument.

I'm glad there's no emphasis on 5 starring songs, which has always seemed very arbitrary to me. First of all, Rock Band is way more lenient in earning 5* than the GH series is, with 5* in RB often being closer to 4* in GH. Gold Stars, which are essentially the new 5*, are often harder to earn than 5 stars would have been in the GH series, are only possible on Expert difficulty, and are statistically IMPOSSIBLE (playtest much?) on several songs across all instruments.

My issue with the star rating system is the inconsistency. Since it's score based, the number/placement of OD phrases and the charting of the song play a larger role in how easy/hard a song is to 5*/GS then the player's ability. On some songs, I'll get Gold Stars halfway through, on others (Little Sister on guitar, for example), GS requires a 100% run with perfect Overdrive use, and on other songs, GS are impossible (Rockaway Beach on Guitar and Seven on Drums).

I don't think there should be an emphasis on 5 starring things. I think they should just add more and better unlockables. I mean how cool would it be if when you're playing with your friends in BWT and you guys 5 star all songs on medium lets say you unlock some special kick-ass guitar? That's a lot more exciting than just earning money every time... or one of those boring gold/silver kits...
