View Full Version : Think there will be a RB demo?

So as a PS3 owner that's not planning to pick up the other game this topic is moot for me, but I know this is a 360-centric forum so I thought I'd stir up some discussion.
What do you guys think the chances are of seeing a RB demo on live? I saw that the other game is releasing a demo with 5 playable tracks (five tracks seems generous for a demo, i think people would be satisfied with two). i have a feeling this is another smart move to snag consumers early and get them to commit their $ early and maybe woo them away from RB.
Since RB has already said the GH guitar would work, and you can sing through a headset, they could release a demo on live too. You just wouldnt be able to play drums. Thoughts?

I highly doubt there'll be any Rock Band demo before the game's release. It'd make the game seem less cool for uninformed people since it would be pretty devoid of the whole band experience that Rock Band is aiming for.

For Ps3 most likely not since we have no way to play Gh1/2 on it , Xbox360 they could make a Guitar and Bass Demo.

*scratches head* i guess it looks like i typed too much and you might not want to read, but did you just reply to the title of my thread?
i start off saying it's moot for PS3, because as you know, there is no guitar out yet. and for 360 i said you could sing and play guitar and bass. just no drums.

I agree with you. I think if anything the demo would mainly just appease people (especially everyone here) that are planning to buy the game anyway.
Although the more I think about it, if fans of the other game see that they can play RB without buying anything else, and they like the songs, and they like the fact that they can sing, it might work in RB's favor. You could have folks going out to buy the disc only. No ones forced to buy the bundle. They always have the option to buy drums later.

Agreed. No full band experience = uninformed people thinking it's just another Guitar Hero or GH rip-off.

QFT This is the main reason why there most likely won't be one.

A demo should be possible, with the obvious exception of drums. If it really is the 4 separate games then a demo would be reasonable. Whether they should/will do it is another story. I'd probably get it, then find a way to hack my USB-PS2 connector to my XBox (anyoone know if this has been done, or do I need to dig through Google myself?).

I think a demo would be possible.
The only instrument that isn't already out there is the drums and even that could be translated to control pad buttons pretty easily (4 drum pads = 4 thumb buttons, pedal = trigers). This is obviously not the ideal way to play the drums in the game but it gives the players a taste of what they could have.
The demo would also give them a chance to show people that you don't need to spend $200 and get all the instruments. You could check just about any where and when ever theres a news story about rock band theres always people saying they don't want to spend $200 on the game.

Well, i know the pelican adapter sucks, but Radio Shack sells an adapter that at least allows the ps2 guitar controller to work on the ps3, however the only thing that doesn't map correctly is the strum bar. Everything else on it works though.

If the strum bar doesn't work, then why bother? Waste of money isn't it?

It's not a waste for me , I just play multiplayer with friends and we play with no star power.

lol ok, but how would you play notes if the strum bar didn't work?
He said, "It's the only thing that isn't mapped correctly, but everything else works"
That leads me to believe it's broken.

my brother bought one, it is terrible.
You hit the notes by just hitting the fret button with no strum, which means there are no HO/PO's. You might as well be playing with a regular Dualshock controller.
Trust me, don't buy it if you want to use it for RB/GH. you should only use it if you can't buy ps3 controllers, or if you want to play DDR.

Aww.. got my hopes up for nothing.. Oh well there's always RockBand

errrrr, i mean whammy bar. HAHhh, that would be pretty useless if the strum bar didn't work. Bet that sounded stupid (LOL).
***Anyway, i checked again, and it's the WHAMMY bar that is mapped incorrectly. So yes the strum bar works just fine as do HO/PO's. Although using star power requires hitting select, which most people probably do anyway, as the tilt feature doesn't work either. And that is the Radio Shack one.***

umm, no ho/po's don't work. the strum is questionable, but I know for sure that ho/po's are impossible with the one that I used

Not sure which one you've been using, but this one:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2348187
has been tested by numerous people on the playstation boards to work fine with HO/PO's and everything but the whammy bar for GH2.
tested under Firmware: v1.90

really? wow, I was using this one.

made by pelican.
If HO/PO's work, that thing is awesome! I'll have to go sell that stupid pelican one and head over to radioshack.
