View Full Version : Gum Rubber Pads from Drum Pads Inc.!!!!!

I previously bought the foam pad and felt mod from www.virtualrocker.com. While the noise reduction was at first apparent, this feature eventually disappeared within the FIRST WEEK! The foam underneath the felt took almost no time at all to "break in" before it started making essentially the same noise as before. This, combined with the lack of rebound caused by the felt, made me rip off the mod and play the drums bare.

After reading some other posts on this forum I decided to order the Industrial Durashield Gum Rubber pads from www.drumpadsinc.com (http://www.drumpadsinc.com) and could not be more pleased!

There are 3 features that set these pads head and shoulders above the foam and felt mods:

1. Noise Reduction: the sound difference between these pads and the standard RB pads is night and day. Though the foam and felt pads reduced sound somewhat, they didn't hold a candle to the noise reduction of the durashield pads. These pads make playing the drums downright quiet! I never thought I'd actually be able to hear the hi-hat on the TV without the volume on full blast.

2. REBOUND!!!: With these pads it's immediately apparent how much less effort it takes to play. On long repetitive drum sections (see: Green Grass & High Tides), you don't feel as exhausted as before, and even somewhat more energized that you are hitting more notes due to reduced fatigue. The rebound is significant enough that you can actually use full strokes (after hitting the pads, your sticks bounce back up to a 90 degree angle), which is how you would play real drums. Bonus points for style!

3. Durability: These pads have maintained their strength and compression (to avoid the "breaking in" problem I had with the foam mod), as well as protected my RB drums from damage.

This mod has changed the way I (and my thankful neighbors) view the game, and I couldn't give enough credit to the folks at Drum Pads Inc. (http://www.drumpadsinc.om) or those people on these boards that helped this California rubber company get on their feet with this product.

Do yourself a favor and go to that website, it will change how you play the game!

(Note: I have only used these pads on the QM model, I understand there are sensitivity issues for the EL.)

yeah i have an EL and tried gum rubber pads, but it was unplayable because the sensitivity was made much worse.

edit: what is EL and QM? model numbers for the kit? how can I tell which version mine is?

while its good to see some good reviews for noise reduction pads as most i have read about dont seem to live up to expectations but heres my concern/problem. its gonna sound petty but i checked out their website and i am kinda confused. they only make them in 3 different colours? (yes theres a 'u' in the word colour, if u live in Canada) not to mention only one of the colours (red) corresponds with the drum kit. your options are red, black and tan. they say they make them for the video game enthusiast so why didnt they do their homework and make 4 pads that match the kit? like i said, its petty but to me it just makes sense.

look for the serial number on the kit. if i am not mistaken the EL model has the serial stamped in the green drum and the QM has it stamped under the controller.

No idea why they didn't do multiple colors for each set.

HOWEVER, the pads fit perfectly over the gray part of the pads while leaving the red, yellow, blue, and green parts of the pad visible. I read somewhere that the red was an eye-sore. I disagree. I think the bright red is actually a refreshing change from the dull gray.

In the case of the EL model, the serial number is stamped on the plastic tab on the underside of the drums that covers the connection between the red and yellow pads (as indicated by the red arrow).

In the case of the QM model, the serial number is stamped into the plastic on the underside of the drums beneath the d-pad (again, as indicated by the red arrow).
