I'm certain probably none of the bands that I'm about to list have half a chance in Hell of making it into the game as DLC, and probably won't make it into the next one either. But, hey... if there's even the slightest remote possibility that they will, why not give it a shot? So I'll present this list of five bands that I'd like to hear in the game and which songs of theirs would be fun to play.
1) Brunswick (http://www.myspace.com/brunswickrock)
I'll start off with one that probably has the best shot of any; they're from Harmonix' backyard of Boston. I've only got one song listed from them, too... so perhaps a bonus track in the next game, or a cheap download? Very danceable indie rock stylings... just try to keep yourself from bouncing along.

2) Marigold (http://www.myspace.com/marigoldgo)
Four piece art rock / indie group from New Jersey. Honestly, not even sure if they're still together since I haven't seen any updates on their page in the longest time. They released one CD with their original vocalist, but towards the end of '06 put out a four-track demo when they went on tour with their new lineup... and three out of the four tracks on that would be excellent choices for the game. Just take a listen to the tracks, and I'm certain you can hear the possible challenges that would await, with complicated fretwork and strumming for guitarists and energetic drumming.
Marigold Pack 01:

Marigold - Unbroken [listen (http://www.zshare.net/audio/8730014ba94d04/)]
Marigold - 5/4 [listen (http://www.zshare.net/audio/87295574a48dbc/)]
3) Cursive (http://www.myspace.com/cursive)
Out of all the Saddle Creek acts, I can't think of one I'd like to see in Rock Band more than Cursive. Tim Kasher's long running project has spawned several albums and EPs since its inception, and their most recent full length "Happy Hollow" has garnered a multitude of accolades from the press. The songs I'd like to see include one from that album, and two from the "Burst & Bloom" EP. And in case you think that first one is boring... trust me. Listen to it the whole way through, and see if you change your mind by the end.
Cursive Pack 01:
Cursive - Sink To The Beat [listen (http://www.zshare.net/audio/8728565b8e5e7e/)]
Cursive - The Great Decay [listen (http://www.zshare.net/audio/8728622c9f3906/)]
Cursive - Dorothy At Forty [listen (http://www.zshare.net/audio/87284172f0354a/)]
4) Milemarker (http://www.myspace.com/ominosity)
Seminal post-hardcore band originally from the Chapel Hill area, and most recently based out of Chicago. They're one of my personal all-time favorites, so I'm going to list six that I'd like to see HMX come through with; two from their "Frigid Forms Sell" album, one from "Anasthetic", and three from their most recent full length, "Ominosity". All of them seem like they perfectly encapsulate what the Rock Band experience should be about... check out the first song linked below and tell me that wouldn't be a workout! The only thing I'm concerned about are the dual vocalists in "Shrink" -- considering one's male and the other is female, that might be a bit awkward. ;)
Milemarker Pack 01:
Milemarker - Frigid Forms Sell You Warmth [listen (http://www.zshare.net/audio/8730265cb7e3c5/)]
Milemarker - Shrink To Fit [listen (http://www.zshare.net/audio/87306958ad3f25/)]
Milemarker - Sex Jam Two: Insect Incest [listen (http://www.zshare.net/audio/8730575e1bc1f2/)]
Milemarker Pack 02 (Ominosity):
Milemarker - Food Chain [listen (http://www.zshare.net/audio/8730199afa9e9c/)]
Milemarker - Virtual Sex [listen (http://www.zshare.net/audio/8730761fe1841b/)]
Milemarker - Rivers Of Blood [listen (http://www.zshare.net/audio/8730521416c088/)]
5) Innerpartysystem (www.myspace.com/innerpartysystem)
This might be the most troublesome out of my picks. Totally rockin' songs, but most of them are very heavily synthesizer-based. On the other hand, that hasn't seemed to slow the output of Nine Inch Nails tunes as of yet... and if "Sabotage" can interface the scratching with strums, I can't see much of their content being too terrible of a problem. And -- hey, bonus -- from what I understand, one of their tracks, "Heart Of Fire", has been used in the most recent Burnout game (coincidentally... published by EA!). Should increase the possibility of securing Rock Band rights by a little bit, nay?
Innerpartysystem Pack 01:
Innerpartysystem - Night Is Alive [listen (http://www.zshare.net/audio/872932019887ee/)]
Innerpartysystem - Don't Stop [listen (http://www.zshare.net/audio/8728752f072d42/)]
Innerpartysystem - Heart Of Fire [listen (http://www.zshare.net/audio/87291505a07c06/)]
So... yeah. Those would be my picks for somewhat more obscure bands that have a tiny, miniscule .01% shot at making it into the game. If anyone's familiar with any of these guys, I'd love to hear what you think about my song choices and if you have any better suggestions. And if you aren't familiar with them, I'd like to hear your reactions if you get a chance to listen to the links. I await the inevitable "tl;dr" and "you have no taste in music" posts. ;)
