Just wondering if this game was being played in a bar or pool hall somewhere other than someones living room. I live in Kansas City and haven't seen anything like it here yet, but what about other cities? I can see how this would replace the blah blah karaoke nights.:)

Yes, there are some bars that do this. I've heard tell of a bar in Riverside, NJ (close to me) that has Rock Band nights every Monday night. I know plenty of other bars that do Guitar Hero nights, so it's really only a matter of time.

Does anyone know about the Boston area? You'd think there might be since the company is Boston based, and the HMX artists are all in the area as well.
I would definitely rock out at a bar after knockin down a few!

Everlong,
Saddle ranch down at the legends mall does it on sunday nights at 9. I don't think they do the whole band deal. Its just guitars. 1v1 tourney for 100bucks. They do rockband songs or GH3 ive only been a couple of times.

I think this would be a nightmare for parts and waiting, considering how easily the guitars and drumsets break, but would be very fun.
If I was the bartender I might get annoyed due to the limited amount of songs available, and hearing the same ones over and over again, but would be very fun in a year or so when there are 200+ songs.

Yes, rockband is in bars in various cities. I am actually hosting a rockband tournament in St. Louis. check out warfactory.net for info. We are doing a fundraiser event April 17th, then a Rock around St. Louis Event this summer hosted by Growlers Pub. Email kicknit1023@gmail.com if you would like more info

There's a club that did it here on Sundays, but I'm not sure if they still do it or not.

i played at a local bar once with my friend, but only because it was snowing really badly and the REAL BAND never showed.
so my dad called me and told me they had rock band there and a bunch of drunks were playing crappy music so he brought my friend and i there and we were amusing drunk adults for about 4-5 hours on a big screen and Very nice/expensive sound equipment. it was fun.

there is a bar in my city that has a free-entry poker tournament every wednesday night. for when you get knocked out, they have rock band set up on a massive projection screen and wired through the bars sound system, so that is the music you hear playing. oh, and there is strippers onstage throughout the whole night. there is one rule though: vocals must set their mic volume to zero.

I've been hosting a monthly ROCK BAND Jam Session at a Toronto bar called Rockie Raccoons since March 2008.
Everyone is welcome. No cover. Xbox 360 compatible.
=======================
ROCK BAND Video Game Jam Session
UPCOMING DATES: June 7, July 5
TIME: 9:00 PM
Rockie Raccoons
2579 Yonge Street, 2nd Floor
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
The first Saturday of each month, anywhere from 20 to 100 aspiring rock legends and their groupies descend upon Rockie Raccoons show off their chops and rock out.
The event has garnered attention from the Canadian Press and CBC's The National, and as the success of Guitar Hero and Rock Band video games spread so does the number of participants.
The event is run much like a karaoke night. Request slips are distributed and individuals or full 'bands' take the stage to perform 1 to 3 songs per set on their choice of guitar, bass, vocals, or drums.
There is no minimum skill requirement and everyone is welcome to perform.
If a group is less than four people the free instruments will be assumed by members of the jam session's 'House Band' or ensure the stage is always full.
There is also a tug-o-war round in which individual contestants compete head-to-head for prizes.
All equipment is provided. The event is Xbox 360 compatible for those who want to bring their customized guitars.

Oh, and good job with the thread bump, people. May as well share.
Denver area has two instances per week of Rock Band in "real bars"... and two others in REAL restaurants! :D (clicky (http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59115))

The infamous Clubhouse here in Dallas (for those that don't know it's a totally nude BYOB club owned by Pantera) They just started two weeks ago doing RB on Monday nights from 10pm-2am. The first week they gave away tickets to Ozzfest, and last week we won free cover for our band for the next two weeks (cover is $25) You only have to be 18 to go in a nude bar (ya, makes a lot of sense) but 21 to bring in alcohol. It's been a lot of fun, you don't have to play on expert (hell, the girls even get up and try to play, they haven't made it through a song yet, but nobody seems to mind :D) and you don't have to have a whole band, you can even get the DJ, managers, and the strippers all to play with you. We are still working on Vinnie, so far he just likes to sit on his couch and watch, but I think we'll get him on the drums soon.

That's like the discount rockstar experience. Naked groupies you pay for, plastic guitars, and cheap beer instead of blow :D
Best bar ever.

Question for anyone hosting Rock Band nights...
How are you splitting your Xbox or PS to several Tv's? A tuner or something else?

"Death of the Arcade" here in Denver uses an A/V splitter from Radio Shack.
Like this one (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2783643).
It's just used for video, however, as the audio goes directly into a multi-channel mixer.

I am thinking about hosting an event every week a our bar.
If any of you are doing so, I have a few questions and would like your input.
First off, what is the best way to do this. Is it better to do free play where people simply take turn playing or is it better to do a competition?
What size TV is best, and should I get 2 so people can play one band against an other? Or is that overkill?
If we do band vs band how should I hook up the sound so it doesn't sound bad?
Should we allow voice or simply instruments? People might be pretty annoying to hear I think...
Are the basic Rock Band 2 instruments sturdy enough for use in a public place for long periods of time without breaking? Would hate to have to replace instruments frequently.
In the case of competition, how should the songs be chosen?
I am used to hosting poker tournaments. So organisation part will be easy, my main issue is putting something that will be interesting for everyone who comes. Also I will need to repay the equipment I purchase for this. My guess is that it will cost about 3000$ to 4000$ to setup a dual console/display setting. So what do you guys think should be the best way to get that money back (and more if possible) ;)

First off, what is the best way to do this. Is it better to do free play where people simply take turn playing or is it better to do a competition?By far people will have more fun with free play, let them truly live the rock star style for one song. We have a sign up sheet like you would for karaoke.
What size TV is best, and should I get 2 so people can play one band against an other? Or is that overkill? We use multiple TVs. A 42" for the 2 guitars/singer and a smaller one for the drummer in the back. I'm guessing your 2nd question here is about some competition? Don't do it. Make it light-hearted and FUN.
If we do band vs band how should I hook up the sound so it doesn't sound bad?See above.
Should we allow voice or simply instruments? People might be pretty annoying to hear I think...People do sound bad, let them have their fun if they wish to sing.
Are the basic Rock Band 2 instruments sturdy enough for use in a public place for long periods of time without breaking? Would hate to have to replace instruments frequently. The RB2 strat I'd say yes to. The drums, it really depends on how hard people bang them.
In the case of competition, how should the songs be chosen? If you really want to go this route, let them choose their own songs.

So what do you guys think should be the best way to get that money back (and more if possible) If you're of age, and are able to, I'd say get in touch with a local bar or two that might be interested in giving this a shot. Charge them a small fee for the first few nights and as business (hopefully) increases, charge a bit more, etc.

Thank you for the answers. I guess we can always do competitions if there is a demand for it. The bar I am planning to do that at is pretty empty during evenings. Most of their business is during the day. I did not think about doing the same event at various places, that is a great idea. Thanks.
I read in this thread that one of the bar simply shuts the sound down for the singer, I guess that is acceptable, if the music is loud enough you won't hear the singer too much.

there's a rockband meetup group here in south florida, the events are in southwest broward now, and i'd like to talk them into bringing their dog and pony rockband show to northeast broward or boca so this thread is interesting.
i find the mix they get on vocals works well. you can hear the vocalist, but it is about 15-20% of the sound unless they really sing loudly, in which case they tend to be pretty good. they may be changing the vocal mix from person to person. is fun, i can play on expert and not feel soo self conscious about my singing (which sounds better on hard cause on hard i can skip the uglier octave changes :)
they have a "house band" of sorts and you fill out the song, difficulty, and band members, and band name and they fill in the rest with volunteers or if there are none, their expert players. runs very smoothly.

We will be starting Rock Band nights on Wednesdays in May at "It's Vegas Baby!" located in the Blue Chip casino in Michigan City. Of course it is free to participate and hopefully we will be able to develop a strong following and eventually give away "rockstar treatment" in the casino/hotel/spa and even trips to Las Vegas. Check us out online or on facebook:
www.itsvegasbaby.com (http://www.itsvegasbaby.com)
It's Vegas Baby! on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/pages/Michigan-City-IN/Its-Vegas-Baby/49620871473)
We will feature Rock Band on our elevated stage with 204" monitor playing behind you--not technically a bar, but better!
Hope to see you there!
