View Full Version : Question about peripheral usage on the PS2

Now that they've announced the game is coming out for PS2, I can't help but wonder if I'll be able to use the periphs I'm buying for my PS3 on the PS2. I have friends that only have a PS2 and it'd be great if they were to buy the game, but not all the periphs, if I could take mine over to their place and plug them in to the PS2 somehow. Anybody have any info?

that is a really good idea, and I don't see why it wouldn't work! the buttons are mapped exactly the same, so I think the controllers could be used on either console. That isn't confirmation, I just think that it would work.

As long as the peripherals you want to use are wired through USB.

The only problem I see is the Wireless guitar that uses bluetooth for the Ps3. Maybe as long as the mic and drums are USB I could see it work. And who knows if the guitars for the Ps2 are going to be plugged into controller ports again.

I expect the USB peripherals to be compatible between the PS2/3.

Unfortunately, MS and Sony will not cooperate on controllers. They've made it clear (and HmxSean confirmed this somewhere) that "until everyone group hugs" there will be no 360/PS compatibility.

In addition, the controller drivers are likely written differently enough that the hardware wouldn't be compatible in the first place (without a driver update, but see above).

XB360 to PS2/3 connectivity is out of the question, I don't think that will EVER happen. But PS3 to PS2 connectivity and vice-versa is definitely possible.

The drums and mic aren't wireless? Just wondering, I assumed they were bluetooth also. I was thinking everything wireless, but have a port where you could plug in a cable to connect to PS2 somehow...even if those cables don't come with the game it'd be cool if they had the port and you could buy whatever cables you wanted...that could theoretically make it work w/xbox also no? Or do they not have usb ports on xbox? I don't know cuz I refuse to give those bastards(microsoft) my money so they can monopolize something else.

First of all, HmxSean would be ashamed... how many times does he need to tell you no console bashing?

Secondly, MS and Sony won't cooperate to make cross-platform peripherals (an why would they?). The 360 does have 3 USB ports, but there could be no PS3/XBox360 controllers.

Sorry :( If it makes it any better I was thinking of buying one for the new Naruto game that's unfortunately exclusive...it's gonna be awesome

Also, if the controllers could plug in through usb then why couldn't they work on both. I don't think that'd be Microsoft and Sony cooperating, wouldn't that be more of a Harmonix making it work thing? I don't really know much about this controller stuff, so sorry if I sound stupid asking that...also I don't really care, as I stated before, I'm only interested in ps2/ps3 compatibility.

No, because MS and Sony choose whether to support them or not, and if they are cross-platform they will both say no.

PS2/PS3 should have wired compatibility.

although you could probably power up the peripherals on either system through USB, and the directional pads may work, im sure you would run into problems with the button mapping by using one designed for xbox on the ps3 and vice versa.

but downgrading to the ps2 i would imagine would work as long as it's wired.
