Awesome news, Tom Morello kicks ass. At least neversoft have got 1 thing right, even if it is a part of a sucky feature.

Morello's talented at what he does of course. But legendary status? I'm not sure about that.

There's 3 in total, 1 is fictitious.
So it's Slash, Tom Morello, and "Joe Shmoe".

I really thought they would be real about it and have like Hendrix, Clapton, and then maybe a fictitious one, but preferably another real one.

I think it's a disappointment, just my 2 cents.

Why so much GH 3 hate on these boards? :(

Fixed due to a drunken Slash running his big mouth. ;)

Why so much GH 3 hate on these boards? :(

Because it's a has-been series, and this is the Rock Band forums, Rock Band > GH3

:D

I don't keep up on their news unless it's here. Is it really Lucifer?

Yep, once you beat him at the boss song, you play Number of the Beast (the final encore).

I apologize for the doubt, but is that confirmed, or just something you heard somewhere?

I just google'd it and it popped up in a comment from just a user to a qj.net story about GHIII. But that's it.

My theory is that the fictional guitarist is Eddie of Iron Maiden fame.

Morello's talented at what he does of course. But legendary status? I'm not sure about that.

Honestly, Kurt Cobain has a better claim to legendary status than Morello, even though Morello is obviously a superior guitarist.

Being a legend isn't just being really good: It's being an icon.

I'd say the following guitarists count as legendary:

Chuck Berry
Eric Clapton
Jimi Hendrix
maybe George Harrison
Jimmy Page
maybe Neil Young (although he's much more famous as a lyricist. On the other hand, a lot of people instantly connect him with Rockin' in the Free World)
Eddie Van Halen
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Slash
Angus Young
Kurt Cobain

and maybe a few I'm missing. Most people recognize the names as, "Oh, hey, those guys played the guitar for that one band!" Even people who aren't big on music. I don't think many people who weren't RatM/Audioslave fans already could say the same about Tom Morello.

Awesome! That most likely means another RATM song is in GHIII.

Tom Morello is awesome and I couldnt be happier with the fact that hes a second boss.

From that video though, the game looks kinda bland.

MartyMcFly
08-24-2007, 06:20 AM
Agreed, Tom Morello is far from a household name.
But if you just say, "Hendrix", everyone knows who that is.

And you're right, it's more about being an icon, a hero.

Slash obviously has a unique style, appearance, and great skills.
Morello doesn't have that sort of status.

Oh well, no use in complaining I guess.

WingsOfSteel

He's still a very good guitarist, and it's not like AFI is a legend of rock either...

No, Slash said it in an interview but I can't seem to find it...

He's #26 on Rolling Stone's top 100 guitarists of all time, not that it means too much, but its something.

Does it say what you will play against him/ what song you unlock afterwards?

That's a list that put Jack White in a higher spot than Angus Young and Toni Iommi.

Tom Morello is certainly worthy of legendary status. The guy has done some crazy, unique guitar work with RatM. I actually like him being in the game.

i think david gilmour was like #70 or something on the list while kurt ****bain was #20. overall the most horrid list of all time

MartyMcFly
08-24-2007, 07:50 AM
Yea, that Rolling Stone list isn't best to go by.

But to clarify, I'm not knocking Morello's guitar playing skills. I was simply saying, imo, he might not be legendary to me. He's not a household name, and doesn't have the iconic status: "I wish I was Tom Morello"

There's just others that I think they could have put in that deserved more to be a "Legends of Rock boss".

Prescott523
08-24-2007, 07:53 AM
Jack White is actually really good at guitar. He is, in no way at all, #20 of all time, but I think some of the stuff he did on records was better than Young's work. And either way, Rolling Stone blows... And myself being a Nirvana fan, I can say honestly Cobain isn't great at guitar, but you have to remember, that was the style of music.

As for the thread's topic, I think it's okay, but there are so many better choices...

frankly idc about bosses or whatever as long as i get to play the ****ing game. oh yeah and i dont' know where to rant about this but idk when i look at ghII's tracklist i honestly dont' know like half of those songs (ok maybe i know more than half but there were some unknown ones for me). before ghII i wouldn't have known what the **** psychobilly freakout was or whatever or even **** like tattooed love boys and frankly i don't like this direction of taking more famous songs that these games are taking. i like listening to new songs and **** so i'd much rather have these games bust out more unknown songs like from before, but again this is just me and its stupid cuz who wouldn't wanna play some of their favorite songs but whatever....................

anywho PUT ERIC CLAPTON IN HERE SINCE HE'S THE REAL LEGEND OF ROCK

Most of those songs you don't know are bonus tracks.

yeah i overexaggerated but it seems as if the main setlist is strictly famous songs. i mean i know most of you guys hated psychobilly but i frankly was diggin that song and enjoyed. i'm sure neversoft or whoever it is making ghIII can dig up some less famous songs like that. butthole surfers aren't exactly mainstream either and that was one of my favorite songs to play

I think most people hate Psychobilly Freakout because they suck at it.

WingsOfSteel

Psychobilly is insanely fun on Hard, but it murders my fingers on Expert.

Well, I have it four-starred so it's not that bad anymore, but I was stuck on that song for a few weeks the first time I played it.

Yeah right.

RATM or nada.

Screw Auioslave. Where the hell is the Soundgarden? Remember Soundgarden Harmonix/Neversoft? The second best band of the 90s!

Question though.. is Tom Morello recording an original track for this like Slash perhaps?

If so, that might explain why you're not seeing Hendrix or any other real legends in his place.

woobwoob
08-24-2007, 08:54 AM
No disrespect toward Eric Clapton, but he's just such a normal looking guy. You gotta remember that its a video game and you are supposed to be intimidated out when facing a boss.

Rather than make a character like this:

http://johnshakespeare.com.au/caricatures/images/eric-clapton.jpg

videogame developers would want you to face something like this:

http://www.edsel.net/rc/rf.JPG

Tom Morello isn't exactly fearful looking, but i think he could beat up Eric Clapton. HAHAHAHA j/k :D

the_polite_force

you seem to be forgetting that eric clapton is the alpha, the omega, the all knowing, the all being, *insert holy non-sense here*.

Clapton will tear out your jugular vein and use it to tune his guitar.

Rolling Stone magazine wrote an article about how Eric Clapton is so badass he brushes his teeth with ripped off baby limbs and has six machineguns for a d1ck

08-24-2007, 09:17 AM
As much as I wanna ***** if Morello is doing an original track like Slash it may end up really well done.

That's the thing. The catch is boss tracks are original, new songs. Guys like Hendrix may not make it for that reason.

And we've seen the cover art, we know they're pushing Slash as a selling point, it can only go downhill from here.

defmonkey
08-24-2007, 09:19 AM
Sweet. Maybe the Eric Clapton jokes will replace the Chuck Norris ones.

Eric Clapton owns you at guitar before he even thinks about owning you in it.

Tom Morello is alright. Maybe some RatM. Or Audioslave. Hopefully just RatM.

But seriously, why so much hate on these boards about GHIII? I don't think its needed. I believe both games will be awesome. We don't need no Forum Trolls pissing people off.

Thats what Im most excited about. Think about the ****ing awesome jam TM will make.

I hope they pick Bulls on Parade or Know Your Enemy

TM will be wearing his signature hat as always I assume.

Even Clapton can make the devil feel guilty when 'Tears in Heaven' was made.

Clapton's so badass, he has to fvck other famous musicians wifes. Then write songs about it.

Somebody once mistaken Clapton for a bass player. He was never heard of again.

Clapton can make his guitar ***.
