View Full Version : Worried about the guitar difficulty...

Hey all,
I really can't wait for Rock Band - I'm actually going in to preorder it tomorrow. Though I mostly plan on playing the drums, one thing has really bothered me in all the videos I've seen - the lead guitar looks WAY too easy. I'm not that great a player...in Guitar Hero II, I can BARELY five-star early-tier Expert songs...but I've yet to see a single song in Rock Band where I didn't think I could full-combo the lead guitar no problem.
I understand that in many (all?) of the videos we've seen, the guitar hasn't been set to Expert, and I understand that Rock Band features songs that cater to all four instruments, not just the guitar...but I feel like I would feel better if we had seen a song that looks even close to difficult. Surely finding songs that are fun for everyone doesn't mean finding songs that are easy for everyone as well?
Thoughts?

Well you're right , but you see the game has to balance everything Guitar , Drums and Bass so its not going to be the same as Guitar Hero but dont worry we still have good songs with Great Guitar parts Like "Highway Star" and "Tom Sawyer", hey who knows there might be some more Hardcore Guitar songs that have yet to be announce by Harmonix.

It's the same folks making the game as the team that made the first two GH's, right?
So I doubt that they suddenly woke up one day and said "let's dumb down the guitar in this one". As you mentioned, we're probably seeing Hard at the most in the videos - I'm sure Expert will be just as intense as it was in the GH games.
There was a video (on GamePro's site, I think?) where they were trying out a fairly recent build, and they mentioned the difficulty - their feeling was it was pretty much on par with GH2, although there was a tad more leeway in when you needed to play the note - sounds like RB will perhaps give you a fraction of a second in either direction more than GH did.

Well, from the looks of it. The people playing aren't that great, so they're probably playing on Easy. I always see people failing, or missing a lot of notes. I wouldn't worry. I have faith in Harmonix.

When I first started watching sArmstrong's videos on youtube before I played the game, I thought, wow those look pretty easy. Boy was I mistaken.
Just because it looks easy on TV when people who have been playing the game for awhile, doesn't mean it's going to be.

I trust Harmonix, they know what they are doing. And like it has been said, they have to take into account each instrument. So there are going to be more easy guitar songs sometimes if they have some more difficult drums, bass or vocals. I think there will be a good mix of easy and hard songs for each instrument.

I've 5-starred every song on Expert on both GH1 and GH2. The game had damn well be as difficult as GH2. If it isn't, then I'm going to beat the game in 2 weeks, and return it. I wants me a challenge, ya?

What's there to worry about? On Expert you play the guitar part note for note. It's been that way since the first Guitar Hero game. The only thing you'd need to be concerned about would be if the chosen songs featured very easy guitar parts. Some of them are easier than others. Most everything we've seen so far has been easy guitar songs on less than expert difficulty levels. Nothing to worry about. Unless they changed the note-for-note ideology for Expert (and they wouldn't), then the difficulty is as one would expect from playing the Guitar Hero games.

Very well put. With what you said, I don't think "expert" can be any less hard than "expert", unless they started mapping chords as single notes, but I don't see them doing that any time soon. It's not THAT close to the apocalypse.

You'll have fun on Highway Star. I've 5 starred everything in all 3 games, and I failed the highway star solo somewhere in the second half. (granted, I didn't have star power, but still...)

Probably referring to GH1, GH2 and GH 80s?

The guitar track on Blitzkrieg Bop looks pretty decent. Its difficulty is sort of like "All of This" from GH1. Bunch of chords.

Giong by HMX's previous titles I don't think difficulties are anything to worry about.
Actualy I would have to say a nice ballance would be along the lines of GH 2.
GH 80's I find nearly nearly impposible to play on expert as they went nuts with the triple note cords and I have major trouble with those.

I hated because it's midnight. WHY TAB OUT KEYBOARD FOR GUITAR?!?!?!? Thats the ONE thing I hated about Guitar Hero. Thats exactly why i'm gonna love Rock Band, they've said no keyboard parts on guitar.

you mean beat it in like two days.
either way, I'm sure they will have a nice mix.. and I'm not going to return the game. It's still gonna be a fun game and it will probably take me a while to do drums (unlike guitar which took me 4 days from the first day I played it XD)

I think I'm gonna take my time getting through that game. Start out on drums on easy, work my way up. Then guitar, then when no one else is home, the mic. Once I get them done all on expert, I'm hitting the online scene, and the DLC.
