Should Harmonix put The Cure in Rock Band?
If you think “no”, perhaps you should consider a few things first.



The Cure have had a rich career spanning 3 decades and are highly regarded in the music world. (Robert Smith performed with David Bowie and has become a sought after vocalist for many European techno acts. Also, the current lead guitar player Porl Thompson has toured with the re-formed Led Zeppelin and they would cover the song “Lullaby” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9xbw-__N48) in concert during this period.)

Many bands who admit to being heavily influenced by The Cure have already been included in Rock Band, i.e. Interpol, Blink 182, Marilyn Manson, Muse, and Siouxsie and the Banshees (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siouxsie_&_the_Banshees).

It would be a great way to further represent Goth music in Rock Band (even though Robert Smith detests the label). The best representation so far comes in the form of the Goth clothing store inside the game, the only other classic “Goth” band in the game at this time would be the for mentioned Siouxsie and The Banshees (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPdgdxr9e78&feature=PlayList&p=B3044E106D3BD2BA&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=53) with a mere 3 songs.

I've always like The Cure. I think a song from "Disintegration" would be great for the 80s portion.

Also, I don't actually own any Cure albums, so I don't know which ones would fit. But judging from the singles, "Disintegration" would be awesome.

Yeah, I actually kinda think so too, Just Like Heaven would probably fit the best.
I'm just scared that I won't get the Disintegration album as DLC when they add a song that's not from that album. And Disintegration is pretty sure the best Cure album.
But still, as long as The Cure is in the game, I'm happy. :)

Yeah, besides, it's the whole package that counts. Some Cure songs may be easy to play, but they just sound great, I love playing them. I mean, Rockband is not all about crazy guitar soli you can pull off, it's about playing awesome songs with your band and the Cure has many great outstanding songs.

Yeah, well, you know, it kinda pisses me off that so many people are suggesting Guns n Roses, Iron Maiden, Boston and all those bands that already have been in Guitar Hero.
I don't say that they're bad (not my taste maybe) but there are still so many bands out there who haven't been in any Guiter Hero game and even deserve it more.
And IMO is the Cure the #1 band on that list.
Others include Bloc Party, Placebo and actually all the bands in my sig.

I would be absolutly dissapointed if none of those bands is in the game.

Well, and I'm not a fan of a lot of the bands that are already in the game. But this game should have music for everyone.

And I love Lovesong. It's a lovely song. lol :p
I mean, yeah, there is not much guitar in the verses, but that makes playing the bass nice for once and there is still enough guitar in the chorus, bridge and even a little solo in it.

But anyway, doesn't have to be Lovesong. I'm probably happy with every Cure song. But I'll guess if they're in the game, then it will be a well known one.
So, I think Just Like Heaven has the best chances, as well as Pictures of You or maybe even Boys don't Cry.

But I hope it's one of the songs I listed in my first post - Fascination Street, Lovesong, Just Like Heaven or In Between Days.

I think they would make a great addition. They bring something different and still something popular into the list. And songs like Just Like Heaven would work nicely in Rockband.

And singing like Robert Smith is just so much fun. :D And I love the guitar sound of The Cure. And they have catchy melodies. They have everything that makes music great.

So please, HMX, give us the Cure. They deserve to have a place in the game.

I'm not a huge fan of the cure, but they're enjoyable. I would have preferred them to the ear rape they call Flyleaf out of the bands you suggested.

Yea, some of their earlier stuff is very different than their current sound. Albums like Three Imaginary Boys and 17 Seconds sound nothing like Pornography or Disintergration. I think they really hit their stride with Pornography(one of my favs by the way).

lovesong is totally boring to play except for the bass part. there's no vocal range and just about nothing for the guitar to do, unless they have the guitar player play the keyboard parts, which would be weird.

mint car would be so awesome. 3 guitar solos, fun parts for all 3 instruments and huge vocal range.

I really can't agree with that. Lovesong is one of my favourite songs by the Cure and the guitar has enough to do. Yeah, it has only one chord while the verse is going, but the guitar is playing in the chorus and even has a solo. And I love to sing the song. So I would not say it was a mistake if they released Lovesong. I don't think it's the best song for Rockband either, yes, but it's a great song by the Cure, so I would love to play it.

Yeah, it's kinda strange. Robert Smith is listed as fav. artist on the Rockband MySpace Website since the very beginning, so I guess they tried or are still trying to get the Cure? But I can't imagine that it's so difficult to get them. Wasn't a Cure song in a Singstar Game already?

Maybe they really want to release a whole album, and that's why it's taking so long? Damn, Disintegration would be so sweet.

I will happily, quite happily, take ANY Cure content. And would die in paroxysms of joy if we got a full album from them. Highly unlikely, but I'd take it in a heartbeat. KMKMKM would be a great full album DL for me, as would Pornography. Singles from pretty much any album will do in a pinch. ;-)

I think the only thing that makes a full album unlikely is the fact that we still don't have any Cure songs and still don't have any full album by any band.

But I think, if HMX takes a look in this thread, they should know by now that there are a whole lot of people who would buy loads of Cure songs. A full album would'nt be a wrong choice, particulary since The Cure has such amazing albums like Disintigration, where every song is a masterpiece.

The Cure is a very influencial band, well deserving a song or two in Rock Band. Here are just a few artists that claim the cure as an influence: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins, My Chemical Romance, Bloc Party, Placebo, and Blink 182.

Nice to see someone giving Wish it's props. That album doesn't seem to be popular with many cure fans, but I love it as much as any of their albums........ well, I'm not too big on WMS or their last album.

No, poster a few above this one, "Used To Be Me" wouldn't be many people's top choice, but I was listening to that earlier, and I do like it a lot.

I don't think their songs are too long for Harmonix to consider. "Green Grass and High Tides" is nearly 10 minutes long, as is "And Justice For All". That said, I hope if we ever do get any cure DLC they stay far, far away from things like Friday I'm In Love, and Mint Car.

Re: Fascination Street. How AMAZING would it be to get the Extended, nearly 9 minute long version of that as DLC? No, I wouldn't hold my breath either, as it (probably) would be the 7" remix if anything. I could go for anything off of Disintegration or Wish tho. "Primary" would be fun. Ha ha. i was 13 when I saw the Kiss Me tour...Went by myself as I was visiting my dad in Seattle. it was my 1st concert ever. i was such a newbie, I left after the main set, as I thought it was over..... i ended up sitting outside the side exit listening to the encores, as they would not let me back in....

You live in Europe..Your best bet may find a friend to go with to another Europe show...Use Chain of Flowers. Good people...Don't Miss out.....Especially now that Porl is finally back...

You more of less now have 3 of the original members (although that statement is not really true as Simon did not join until after the 1st album, and Porl left before they recorded the 1st album...But we all consider them the most important members at their instrument over time)....

For those who do not know, Porl grew up idolizing Zeppelin (him and Boris used to play Zeppelin covers in Cure sound checks)...When he left the Cure after the Wish tour, he joined up with Plant and Page for their album and tour......and Lullaby was a regular in their set, with Plant announcing it as a song by one of the greatest bands of their era....

And you should listen to the Cure, they are perfect for the game. And some songs, especially newer ones are considered to be ROCK and early Cure is even considered Punk, which we really have a lot of in Rockband. Oh wait, all those Punk Packs... why did they release those?? It's called Rockband .... Rock...!! :eek:

cure=yes. Not sure if the drum parts would be exciting, but as for Guitar, Bass, and Vocals: "Pictures of You" works.

They have lots of keyboard laden tracks...
Close to me, but substituting Steel Drum with guitar would be... weak, but I guess they do replacement instruments for Freezepop all the time.

Lovesong: once again boring drum parts. I think a good RB DLC needs a moderate to quick pace, or be complex enough to enjoy on expert even tho it skews easy.
Friday I'm in Love: works and its shortish. I feel a good Rockband song comes under 4 minutes but over 2 minutes. Most Pixies songs hit that 2-3 minute range which is perfect.

Than have a 6 pack to follow.....Disentegration is probably my favorite album of all time, followed closely by The Bends......However, I think a 6 or 12 pack of Cure songs from different albums would be better as Disentegration has a bunch of songs that probably would not work real well on Rock Band...i.e. Homesick, Untitled, and a few others...

My Roomate has Faith, Pornography, and Seventeen Seconds, so we aren't completely Cure-less. I also have "Staring at the Sea" and "Galore" but those aren't real albums to me - just a glimpse into thier genius.

I have to make a confession here too. I only have 5 Cure albums! :eek: And one of that is "Greatest Hits" (was the first album I bought), and another one is only in digital form ("Disintegration" that is, because I'm waiting for the Deluxe Version, but could'nt live without their best album).
The other are the DELUXE Version of "Three Imaginary Boys", "Seventeen Seconds", "The Head On The Door" and "Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me".

I'll tell you, those Deluxe albums are so beautiful, you need to buy those! They look so great.

Unfortunately the really early Cure wasn't that great (Imaginary Boys), but I'm trying to buy all Cure Deluxe albums over the time anyway, so...

The B-Side collection "Join The Dots" is totally different from what I've expected it to be. It's actually a 71 pages long book (!!) with stories about those songs and 4 CDs with all those songs on it.

Finally, expect Disentegration, Wish, Mixed Up, and Wild Mood Swings Deluxe albums this year.....So excited about Disentegration and Wish re-mastered, plus the rarity discs...Will finally probably get the Wish instrumental tracks which were only released on a very obscure cassette I believe...

Also, I am lucky enough to have been a Cure fan for 21 years now and have everything they have ever commercailly released, all the cd singles, as well as a ton of obscure releases, concerts, etc...If anyone has any questions on any of their albums, history, etc, let me know...I love talking to Cure fans as it is such a big part of my childhood up until now....

Also, Coldplayer, give 3 Imaginary Boys another chance....It is a fabulous album (with the exception of Object and a couple other tracks which are sub par, even in their minds), just not like anything else they did.....Much more punk influence via The Clash, Buzzcocks, etc....

Robert announced last year that he was working on the deluxe versions I mentioned for this coming year. Probably fall 2008. Bloodflowers is currently planned for an eventual deluxe release.... I doubt that "The Cure" album will get that treatment since it is so recent that is does not need to be remastered, but you never know......

Regarding the 3 Imaginary Boys album, The Cure still does an encore pased on this album currently.....It consists of Killing An Arab, Jumping Someone Else's Train, Fire In Cairo, 10:15 Saturday Night, Grinding Halt, and 3 Imaginary Boys.....

If you are not a fan of the punk sound, at least give the song 3 Imaginary Boys a good try as it is not really that style and a great song....

Robert announced last year that he was working on the deluxe versions I mentioned for this coming year. Probably fall 2008. Bloodflowers is currently planned for an eventual deluxe release.... Yeah, I'm 23 now and really love the band since 1 or 2 years now. In the 80ies and early 90ies when the band was popular I was still a kid unfortunately and didn't listen to much music.

Unfortunately also today I know some people my age who just can't cotton up to the sound of this band, but those people don't know much about music.
Thank god, I also now some people my age who love the band just like I do. (especially the members of my band - I mean real life band, not Rockband band)

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the new Deluxe albums, I hope Robert finishes them soon (even though he is working on a new album too, as far as I know)!!

P.S.: I actually really like Killing an Arab, Boys Don't Cry and Jumping Someone Elses Train, but those are more like exceptions, or lets just say, I like the sound of the newer Cure more than the sound of the old Cure. (My favourite Cure is in the end of the 80ies of course)

It is from the Muse song titled "Take A Bow". There is something about the the way Bellamy sings "What we've become is contrary to what we want; Take a bow" that makes me shiver. (Muse being my favorite band, just ahead of Radiohead.) That Smiths song would be sweet though.

Well, they officially have no keyboard player in the band any longer. It is just Robert, Simon, Jason, and Porl is back (he left after the Wish Tour)...Porl being back is great as he is a phenomenal guitar player and was key to the sounds of Head on the Door, Kiss Me, Disentegration, and Wish.....Live they do not use a keyboard now and Porl and Robert play many of the keyboard parts on guitar which freshens them up for them..........

That being said, Robert is playing Keyboards on the new album....It is just not as prevalent as it has been before... Apparently they have recorded 33 or so songs, and will possibly release a label preferred single cd (expect it to be more commercial songs) as well as a Robert selected double cd of around 26 songs (and at a close to single cd cost) available for only a short time.......

The new sounds will run the gamut of harder rocking songs, some poppy songs, but also several 7-8 minute songs that sound very "Cure 80's". They even recorded a couple of Head on the Door tracks that never made that album.... I have high hopes knowing how much time Robert has worked on these, as well as knowing 3 of the 4 key Cure contributors for all their greatest work are back.....The only one missing is Boris Wiliams who was the drummer from 1984-1994.....

Album was scheduled for last fall to coincide with the US tour, but the tour was postponed tell this May-July so Robert could finish the album. It was penciled in for June 3, but I have heard it may be pushed back tell September, but no final word on this yet. Is is supposedly done, so that would be a label decision I am guessing, but we should no more soon.

As for Deluxe versions for 2008, latest word is Disentegration, Mixed Up, and Wish late this year....That is according to Robert, but with all he has going on, we may see it pushed back slightly, but that is speculation...

Also, they apparently recorded for DVD their show in Paris last month which grew great reviews and featured a great setlist....More news to come on that as well.....that is all I have now, but I will post here when I get more definitive news....US Tour starts May 9th.....

I am loving this thread....There are actually a few bands that you guys have discussed which I am not aware of, which is rare (not to sound arrogant, but this is my kind of music and I spend a ton of time trying to stay up to date)....I will continue to add some cool bands that have not been mentioned or I think should be on the list as I go thru my collection....

I never listened to The Cars before, but I heard Drive and Moving in Stereo today and it kinda reminds me a little of the Cure. Wikipedia even calls them New Wave, just like The Cure.

I can't really give an opinion since I only listened to two songs today, but maybe it's not that bad.
It's not the Cure, but it may be a beginning.
