cross platform play is never gonna happen

It happens with consoles and pc, but never console to console. Well FFXI on 360 plays with ps2 and pc. So who knows honestly.

I knew the noob survival guide wouldn't get enough use.

Besides, are there even any games at all that are cross platform between the 360 and Ps3?

Thats not a noob question thats legit. Just how your asking about the 360 and PS3 cross platform, thats basically the same question.

The fact that it's an example question in the Q&A of the noob guide was my point. My question didn't refer to Rock Band at all.

And MrMet was stating that there will never be cross platform for Rock Band, he wasn't talking about PC games or FFXI.

It's too early for arguments :)

Sony and Microsofet need to suck it up and do what's best for thier customers in the long run. This kinda corporate douchebaggery is what will kill gaming.

Sony is more open than MS is they allow Devs / Publishers to add their own servers, content etc to the PSN .. the fact that MS wont even allow devs or Publishers to add their own servers or their own content to Live is a problem right there never mind allowing Sony and PS3 owners access.. MS need to be more open before anything like 360 PS3 cross play will happen.

That's a double edged sword.... One could say that the reason XBL is so good is because MS won't allow half assed devs to muck it up. MS has a solid platform and it is controlled. You know every game you play online will work and work right. Continuity is a good thing. With the Playstation, You never know what you will get. Or even if the games servers are still running if you are playing an older game. I'm waiting on the full run down of PSN's Home network before I make my final decision.

FFXI was run on it's own servers, so that's different. RB will be on XBL and PSN, FYI.

Of course, EA likes to shut down it's servers early, too. All their sports titles servers go cold after exactly one year, jsut in time for you to buy the new one.

Seems like this is only a problem for their first party stuff, so we should get good servers for RB.

They shouldn't need to make Rock Band 2, They'll have Downloadable songs, and Albums, what they should do is just make different instrument peripherals, like a Bass

With DLC.. there isn't really a reason to have yearly revisions.. RB could last several years. The only additions to GHII made from GHI were things that needed to be in the first but they had no time to implement. RB should be completely awesome first time around. So a RB2 will likely never need to surface.

Never?!? I don't think so buddy! I am pretty sure that there will be a RB2, but I don't expect it to release until at LEAST 2009.

Ditto. Just because a game gets updated doesn't mean it shouldn't get a sequel.

^ Why? Cuz we'll need Battle modes and Boss fights?

Didn't say "ever" just won't be every year..

You said "So a RB2 will likely never need to surface."

no of course we don't need stupid power ups, or boss fights, or battle modes. But I'll bet there are a lot of features HMX wanted to put into RB and didn't have time to do them.

So RBII is their chance to blow us away with whatever surprises they may hold. If there are no surprises and HMX fit EVERYTHING they wanted and could EVER want into RB (highly doubtful) then fine, we don't need RBII and we will be satisfied the the awesomeness of RB and it's DLC.

The only thing I'm worried about with RBII is will we be able to play the DLC from RB1. If I'm going to pay to DL these songs they better be compatible with Rock Band II.

That is my main concern as well. HMX has made a game every year so i don't know why they would stop now. There are always things that could be made better.

What changes they may want to make can be done via DL. With no cost of disc pressing and shipping.

They didn't have a viable online community to distribute new content through before either.

It would require MAJOR changes to the game and it's code to warrant the expense of shipping new discs every fall. EA puts out a Madden every year to get your 50 bucks cause who would pay 50 bones just for a new roster. The updates they make are minimal but they have to do something to justify a sequal.

The only thing important to GH or RB are new songs.. The rest of it be damned. Microtransactions being made all year will be far more profitable than software sales could ever be. So why bother.

Only reason I could see would be for the people who haven't hooked thier chosen system up to the interwebs... Which by this time next year will be few. Who could resist not getting new songs now as opposed to later?

I think there would be a huge backlash if the DL content wasn't compatible. Without fellating Harmonix too much, it seems like if they weren't making the game, they'd be on the forums with us excited about the game. So if this did happen, I would blame it on EA. Not Harmonix

I think you are jumping on the DLC bandwagon a little too soon. Although it makes sense, it is doubtful that they would ever just release Rock Band, and never press another CD again. Digital distribution is where games, music, etc., is moving towards, but it is still too early to say that physical media is dead. Rock Band is no different than any other game in that regard.

It's still pretty safe to say that Rock Band, because of all the DLC that it will potentially have, will have a much longer shelf life than most other games, and a Rock Band 2 probably will take a good amount of time to come out.

That is very true, and I agree with you that they can take their time with a second release. I do hope they give everyone a lot of DLC with Rock Band. They truly seem to be in it to please the fans of their games, and that is awesome.
