GH peeps hatin' on RB?

I was on the GH forums for the hell of it today, like I usually do just because I don't belong to them and I just like checkin' up on 'em, but I found a thread of some guy who started an Unofficial GH Forum (http://guitarherogameforum2.forumotion.com/index.htm), which is actually doing really well with a lot of members. So, I decided to scroll down and check out all of the different forums and, near the bottom, I found one called 'The tale of rock band' The ledgendary tale of rock band : The little video game that couldn't with this picture:

and, I mean, I guess a lot of GH fans are pissed that HMX split from GH to make RB, which they shouldn't be, so, most of the people there say that GH3 is better that RB, which it freakin' isn't, and that RB is a game for music n00bs that never played GH or any kind of mucic for that matter. HMX made the right decision to split from GH because they went with their instincts and made something bigger and better than not only GH, but than pretty much the whole gaming market. I commend HMX!:D
I know these GH people may be joking, but I thought I'd bring this up here just in case no ones seen it. If you guys have, really sorry and if no one cares, sorry 'bout that too. :o :D

Considering you don't have to buy the drums, microphone and can play it as a straight Guitar game that will have DLC like full albums I STILL don't see how RB can be considered weaker.

All their complaints is based on the starting setlist, which is fine, but they don't seem to understand why it was chosen the way it was chosen.

Im not one to like the most popular songs, but I like Rock Bands setlist more than GH3s setlist.

Not only on the disc, but the week after they are releasing my second or third favorite album ever. So I seriously dont see anything GH3 is stronger in right now.

It just pisses me off how this Tman dude thinks he's so cool bashing RB saying how our tracklist sucks and how GH3 is better. RB has an awesome list that offers oldies to millenium hits with a balanced amount of songs in between, which blends into a great party game, which GH3 has as well, but they also think that HMX is stealing songs from GH3. :rolleyes: Now, I'm all for equality between RB and GH3, just as long as no one complains how one game is better. Think about it, imagine an argument between us and Tman:

Us- RB features Guitar, Bass, Singing, as well as a new drum peripheral.
Tman- Ah...well, um... our guitar's neck snaps off for no friggin' reason.

Ya see, we have an argurable reason that RB is better, GH3 doesn't. I guess people, like Tman, wanna stay GH homeboys and true to the GH name, not play a brand new game which he knows is totally better with a totally different name.

Yeah, sometimes I ask myself if they even now that HMX (the developers who are making Rock Band, the game they hate) are the original masterminds behind their loving Guitar Hero.

I don't get it, why should you hate Rock Band? It's actually the real sequel to Guitar Hero 2, not Guitar Hero 3, which is more of an add on, even made by a different developer!
So, I did really always see Rockband as the true sequel to Guitar Hero 2.

But, well, I will get both games. I will have fun with both games. Both games are going to be good, I guess. I mean, with Rockband, I know it will be good, because it's made by HMX, GH3 is made by a developer that is new to the franchise, but I'm still looking forward to it.

But in all seriousness, I think that both games are going to be successful, Im thinking about picking up guitar hero 3 because those les pauls might work on rock band (i dont know), and I guess those arena rock songs can help get the young(er) people into the game, and slowly get them into rock band

Well yeah. They were both released (in the UK at least) in 2006, it was to be expected.

HMX saw that their simply-guitar was losing steam. Sure, the lack of XBL Multiplayer on the 360 did seem like a missed opportunity, but RB is where it's at.

This is seriously what I think when I imagine of alot of people at scorehero. I mean I have so much repect for the site, like tons, but I just feel that some of their members are forgetting to have fun in the game and are to busy stunned by the amount of notes in TtFaF.

I agree. I never tried to 5 star every song on GH 1 & 2, because that's not why I got it. I got it to have fun with my friends and enjoy some cool rock songs.

Hearing people go on about "ZOMG taht sux cuz it not hard enuff!" just annoys me. They seem to assume the game is being made purely for their enjoyment. I don't play these games for difficulty, neither do a lot of other people.

I agree. Heck, I'm still playing medium on GH1, GH2 and GH80s. It's fun for me right now. I'll move to hard eventually. I may not be able to play expert, honestly, and that's ok. I'm in it for the fun. When you start getting into worrying about FCing songs (i.e. maxing out the multiplier for the whole song), it seems to make it more of a chore than a game.

For me, I see GH as one player game. Ok, some Face-offs are fun, but its not quite on the same level as Rock Band will be. You see, the career mode is just for me to practise for online band, that's where the fun is.

But, if you're strapped for cash and don't have online, then I can see why you'd go for GH because without multiplayer Rock Band isn't the same.

Actually the estimated prices for the instruments and game would make the game+drums+guitar = $200

I thought the estimated prices were:
Game - $60
Drums - $80
Guitar - $60
Mic - $30
Bundle - $200

Sooooo, if these are in fact correct estimates then you would just be better off buying the bundle since you would basically get the mic for free.

I have to admit, most of that thread's content is unintentionally hilarious, simply due to the fact that a majority of the responses lack any kind of coherent logical grounding. The following little gem is a perfect example:

I read a while ago a list on the Top 10 games People are Playing Wrong. Guitar Hero was on the list, and they said that people are are too anal about high scores they dont even think about all the fun they could be having jumping around around the room like a rock star and having a good time

This is seriously what I think when I imagine of alot of people at scorehero. I mean I have so much repect for the site, like tons, but I just feel that some of their members are forgetting to have fun in the game and are to busy stunned by the amount of notes in TtFaF.


Its fun to set goals. I tried 5*ing every career song in every GH game on expert. I did it. Now really, was it fun? Yes. But you know whats funner, trying to headbut your mic while trying to do simultanious guitar and vocals on Dont Fear the Reaper.


Top 10 games people are playing wrong... I'd say that's pretty darn accurate. I visit scorehero regularly, but the attitude there is just twisted and perverse.

The fact that its "standard tactics" to abuse the timing window for points speaks volumes for their mentality. Are you playing the game to enjoy the experience, or are you playing to get some arbitrary high score (high scores ONLY available with borderline glitching). Between all the "optimal" scoring gimmicks, you have to wonder if they've stripped all the fun out of in the name of some dick-waggling points scoring contest.

Don't agree with the above criticism? Check out the most popular of their forums... which is devoted to nothing but tooting your own horn about FC'ing, point scoring, accomplishments, etc. How vain.

Its like they don't understand that when Activision bought RO, everything changed. But they wouldn't even be able to grasp business. Its something 13-16 year olds just simply don't understand.

I've no hard feelings for any of the companies, its all about the mighty dollar. When will people learn.

The thing with Harmonix though, is that they actually have reps take the time to respond to our questions (which is very good PR). Something RO/Activision just can't comprehend.

As for this, I agree! I use to be the same way, but eventually it turned into more of a task than something that was made to be fun. I don't even visit SH anymore.

No, GH Rocks the 80s was more like an add on. Neversoft is doing great with the franchise.

And for those of you who don't like the interchangable singer/celebrity guitarist thing, what else could they have done with the franchise? Drum and microphone peripherals? Oh wait...

Yeah, you're right. GH3 has a lot of new features and a great setlist, so it's probably more than just an add on.
But I still see Rock Band as the true sequel, as the next logical step, and besides, it's made by Harmonix.

I know. RB is like a little baby at this point; if someone beats it to death by making a competitive site about scoring and FC-ing and such, it's just gonna take the fun outta it. Come on, think about it; THAT'S WHAT XBOX LIVE IS FOR! There are leaderboards that display top bands or top solo artists, we really don't need an online thing to parallel it. Also, yes, I 5 *-ed every song ('cept Jordan, dammit), but that was just to unlock stuff and I had fun at the same time, but, now I just rock out like crazy, usually not caring about my score. You get the most outta the game by doing what you're supposed to do... HAVE FUN!:D Anyway, back to what I was saying, since RB isn't out yet, we have a lotta time time to prevent something like SH(it really isn't that bad, it just gets annoying how people get too competitive) coming along, cause we're prepared...well, except for myrockbandspace.com 'cause I know that dude's putting a lotta time and effort in something that's soley made to just let other people know your score like, well, a forum.:D

And, like said above, I just love HMX because of how they include us into the production of RB and ask of our opinions of what songs we want to play and, pretty much, how they made this whole forum just for us. Awesome people, awesome games,...I love you HMX! :D

Someone actually clamined on ScoreHero that Guitar Hero III was a true sequel and Rock Band felt like "an expansion" to GH 2.

It's really cool of HMX to listen to what we think, and I really appreciate it... my only problem is I wish more of the people on this forum agreed with what music <B>I</B> want in the game. For instance, I'd love to see some of the rock you hear on your local version of the X radio station (X103 where I live). I want bands like Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Chevelle and 30 Seconds to Mars. I figure I'll get flamed for the last one, but oh well; I still like that band.

I think I've said this before but it bears repeating... I can't understand how these people are turning their backs on the developers that created what they hold dear. They are NOT sticking to what they loved about GH1-GH2 and GH80's. GH3 is truly the new and unproven entity here.
