View Full Version : In case you haven't pre-ordered

First off, I've been around the forums for at least a month and haven't seen anything other than speculation on this. So here's some slightly more concrete hearsay...

I just went to Gamestop to get a copy of Dead Rising and decided to reserve a copy of Rock band. First of all, it's $25 down. Of course, for likely $200 worth of game, it makes sense they ask for more than just $10.

More importantly, I chatted with the manager a bit about how many pre-orders they've gotten. He said that he just asked corporate, and the only copies of the RB bundle they will be getting are to fulfill pre-order copies. He also said their GH2 launch hardware was 54 bundles for 50 pre-orders, and they didn't get another copy for a full month.

So, moral of the story is: hardware should probably be pre-ordered, unless you have other means of getting it.

Dunno if it will happen the same.. BUT Sam's Club had at least a hundred of GHII bundles in when it dropped... If I have to wait so be it. I'm not pre-ordering Cuz I will be in the carribean if it is released on the 20th anway. If we hear it ships on the 6th.. Then maybe I will. Providing I have made up my mind on which system to get by then.

It might just be yours. When I pre-ordered mine, My friend (Who is the manager) said that they will only get about 10 or 15 in on release, and just get more shipments in every week. And trust me, we've been friends for years, and he was keeping TONS of Game info that only employees should know from me. So, for all I know, they might get in about 50, and sell certain amounts weekly.

On a separate note, it SUCKS that I'm 15. He said once I'm 16 he can get me a guaranteed job there. But he gets access to so much stuff! Played the Wii before it was even on Demo is the stores. Played Halo 2 like, 3 weeks before release. Lucky bastard. And yes, I know, he shouldn't, it can get him fired.

Yeah, the Wal-Mart at my college had tons of GH2 bundles, but they might have also been pre-order copies (since they keep them in the case like the rest).

Of course, this could always differ between stores, I'm just relaying what I was told.

I never pre-order hardware. Just a pain in the arse if the damn thing is defective.

Can you say "GHII X-Plorer"?

Your X-ploder was faulty when you pre-ordered it?

No! I'm worried for Rock Band!

I imagine you will be able to walk into Circuit City or Best Buy on release day and be just fine.

for just the game? yes

for anything else? HELL NO

and why would you want to go into a store and lug out a huge ass box lol? I'm getting that shiz shipped straight to my door.

i'll preorder online from i'm hoping EA themselves, if not them then best buy. I mean it is very possible even then it gets backordered. But i would imagine the peripherals are near finalized, and ready for manufacturing. It shouldnt be TOO bad, everyone involved can probably ballpark what they'll need to meet demand.

Were you around when Guitar Hero 1 came out? I got every ridiculous excuse in the world why I couldn't pre-order it and when it came out, it STILL didn't show up for over a month around here.

I don't want Rock Band to be a repeat of that. Amazon.ca is finally offering pre-orders, but for some reason it's just the game. No info on the instruments.

Well, considering I'd already made the purchase, given him the money for the pre-order, and was just chatting with the guy... I doubt he was still trying to sell it to me.

I will be at my local walmart at midnight and be rocking out by 1:00. There is no reason why it won't be widely available unless there is some major production issue. If the retail pics that surfaced are correct there will be 4 guitars, 2 drums, ample copies of the game, and more than likely a few bundles available as soon as the game launches. My friend and I were the only ones waiting for GH2 at midnight so I am fairly confident I can get my hands on whatever I will need. If not, there are 4 Walmarts around my area that are open 24 hrs so I will get it.

You shouldn't always believe what you hear at places like gamestop. If you keep up with gaming news you can pretty much tell when they are just telling you lies to place a preorder. This is part of the reason why I spend my money elsewhere when it comes to buying games.

Again, I had already bought it, so it didn't do him any good to tell me that I should buy it...

Besides, I'm in a suburb of Minneapolis and work full time, so I'm not going to hope there's still a copy left over somewhere after I leave work.

The more I hear, though, it sounds like it differs by chain (WalMart seems to have a bit of a surplus most places) and location (Minneapolis vs rural).

I'm too lazy to read all of the posts, sorry if this has been said.

Gamestop and EB often will take preorders and not get many more than the amount they preordered.

Also, they are really bad about preordering more than they can obtain. See PS3 preoders less than a year ago.

Even Amazon screwed up recently with Nintendo DS Lite Crimson and hasn't shipped many of the preorders.

Your best bet is to wait at Best Buy when it opens.

Blame Sony... not Gamestop/EB Games. Sony lied to them, plain and simple. Said they were going to be supplying far more than they did. Same thing happened with Wii's at Best Buy too. It happens everywhere and it happens because they tell the company they'll get so many, then at the last minute there's a "production" or "shipping" problem. Very bad example as every place had that problem, not just Gamestop/EB Games... get over it.

I work at an EB Games myself, and I can guarantee that it's very rare that they don't have enough to fill pre-orders. Trust me, the employees in the store aren't lying to you about quantities. We don't keep a magical stash in the back room that we keep to screw people over just cuz they didn't pre-order it. Don't get me wrong the company is by no means perfect, but it's no worse than Best Buy(lol@their warranty system) or Walmart.

If you think people are just trying to sell you stuff when it comes to pre-orders and that's it, you're a fool or you don't have a job. How do you propose you get such a popular game when you don't have the luxury of waking up at 10 in the morning to wait at EB Games to get it? I don't pre-order everything myself, but stuff I KNOW is going to sell out or be hard to come by, I do and always have, well before I worked here.

My question is basically, if you know you're going to buy it, and you actually you know... work and/or go to school. Why not pre-order it? Your money doesn't disappear and you can cancel it at anytime. You lose absolutely nothing by doing it.

Really the only reason not to pre order something (assuming you know you'll be able to afford it) is that theres always a chance that the place you preorder from will screw up and it will turn out that you could have gotten it sooner from somewhere else. This is really only a problem with pre-ordering locally where you usually have to put a deposit down, as opposed to pre-ordering online with a credit card that isn't charged at all until the thing ships.

Gamestop employees have a chronic diarrhea of the mouth for spewing mis-information. Plus they push pre-orders harder than your local heroin dealer pushes dope.

Last I heard according to Gamestop, the rumored 200$ bundle only included a guitar and the software, and the drums and guitar were each $80 extra.

lol, yeah I never trust the guy's info at EB Games/Gamestop/other gaming store. I get my information myself, that way if I am wrong I have no one to blame but myself.

Ugh, I can't believe I haven't pre-ordered yet, I may go tomorrow with my brother. I just hope he is willing to take me up there, wish me luck!

Although I normally never place preorders for RB I had to make an exception. Like another poster said, anyone remember how hard it was to get a copy of GH when it first came out? I sure do, I had to call about 15 stores trying to find it for my brother for christmas.

I highly doubt many stores will carry a large amount of the "full bundles" as they'll be large and hard to store among other things.

Really I think $5 down isn't much to ask to reserve a copy of what is going to be an amazing game.

Well, truthfully you're giving the company an interest-free loan. Honestly, though, it's not that bad

If I go back and say "I want to un-reserve my copy" I'll get my $25 dollars back.

Thank you, that's the point I'm trying to make. GameStops especially have very litle storage space to get a whole bunch of packages that (if the pics of the boxes are correct) is 3x thicker and a bit longer than from GH. If you know of a WalMart which has a lot of storage space, you're probably more likely to find it (of course, you need to find a helpful WalMart employee at midnight...).

If I may add I live in a town full of black kids. Yeah not too big on Rock. Hell they had run a launch sale to get of the 360 GHII's.

Thanks for the heads up, I was planning on pre-ordering at some point, but this just solidifies that choice, and I'll be sure to not forget to do so.

I preordered a few weeks ago, but I'm worried that I won't get it on the release date. GameStop is incredibly unreliable when it comes to that. If you're first in line, you'll get it. But if you decide to take your time getting over to the store then there's a chance they'll run out of preorder copies.

@ whoever said Best Buy and Circuit City will have them on release date: HA! funny...you just know if someone cant get their hands on Rock Band from a game store, they'll head over to every other electronics store in the city to try their luck.

I got GH2 the day -before- release day from my local Circuit City, and I didn't pre-order it. They made a mistake in their online ordering system which let you order it online the day before the release day like they normally would, but you could do a same-day in-store pickup, which I did.
