View Full Version : Should There Be A Patch for Squeezing?

"Squeezing" in drums for Rock Band is where, during an overdrive, you hit the bass drum pad at the same time as a green note which then, for an unknown reason, registers as a hit thus gaining an extra hundred or so points (to a potential difference of up to a thousand or so points in a song).

To me, this seems like a bug, and presumably the response to bugs is patches. On the other hand, HMX could just say that it actually is a feature of the game as some sort of post-FC skill test. After all, as some will say, "a higher score is a higher score."

This is relevant in regard to the leaderboards when, as on a song like "I Think I'm Paranoid" where tons of people FC with the same OD path (as far as I know).

What do you think? Is squeezing a bug to be patched? Or an unexpected feature as an extra test of "skill" for high-end players? Or does it even matter, since "no one cares about the leaderboard anyway"?

The Guitar one is legit from what I can tell.

jeff is touching on the right answer. People will most certainly do anything to make it to the top of the leaderboards. That includes exploiting any glitch or bug, no matter how much effort is required.

If you read the scorehero.com forums, you'll already know that this has been brought up, and adressed by an HMX employee.

It's a bug. Plain and simple. QA didn't catch it, and considering it took thousands of people over a month to find out in the field, I'm frankly not surprised.
At this point, the amount of effort required to fix the bug (and the subsequent testing required) are not worth it, and would affect the leaderboards in one of two ways.

1. You are left with now unatainable scores, essentially locking in the first place score for most of the songs
2. All scores are potentially invalid and the leaderboards must be reset.

In the end it works out well though. We've got guitar squeezes, vocal squeezes, and now the drums have squeezes too.

Ah, I didn't know official responses came on the scorehero forums. I knew it'd been brought up but didn't know it'd been responded to. I searched for the topic here but saw nothing official on it.
