So I'm in the car listening to The Bone on the radio and in 30 minutes I hear Hard to Handle, Black Hole Sun, Tom Sawyer, and Limelight. Just goes to show how much Rock Band is affecting the world of music (in a positive way of course)

I heard Green Grass and High Tides in its entirety on the radio the other day.
Excellent.

someone who knows more about iTunes than me should see if the weekly DLC tracks experience a spike in sales after the DLC announcement is made. I would assume that a lot of people download the iTune for 99cents to see if they want to play the song.

I know that I've personally bought a couple songs off of iTunes after growing to like them by playing them on Rock Band.

I think it is more that you are recognizing the songs than you were before. Then again, most go by requests nowadays, so it is entirely possible.

yeah i can say with these smaller bands the last two weeks, i go to Itunes and listen to those previews they give you of the song to get a taste for em or not.

Yeah! It seems to be that the music in RockBand is starting to find new life. :)

Agreed. At least with the four examples listed....those are basically classics (Tom Sawyer and Limelight for sure...and the other two you might call modern classics - soon to be true classics).

I think that right now RB isn't affecting the music world at large, but more likely impacting the individual player's music world. Obviously, this will, in turn, affect the collective music world... And I definitely think RB (and the GH series) will eventually play a huge part in how music is marketed and will be a major means of "getting the music to the people".

What and where is "The Bone"

A classic rock radio station from The San Francisco Bay Area. :) It is 107.7 on the radio dial, and the website is 1077thebone.com. You can stream it on your computer. Hope this answers your question.

I know just what you mean. I get so excited when I hear songs that are in Rock Band on the radio or anywhere else besides Rock Band.

I think the thing I like about it is that it is bringing some people into the world of classic rock. It means that there is hope for today's younger generation, that they will stop listening to today's depressing songs, and start listening to yesterday's depressing songs. :p

In all seriousness though, it is interesting that once someone plays "Tom Sawyer" in RockBand, they get hooked on it.

I disagree.

I work at a radio station. I can't say all, but most radio stations actually never play requests. They pretend to, putting a sound bite of someone asking for a song or "This goes out to Tom in Quincy". But they were gonna playing the song anyway, you just get the credit.

Back when "Superman's Song" came out for example, I'd get 100 calls saying how much the song suc*** every time we played it, but during the top 5 @ 5 most requested songs this one was #1 for over a week. We got a lot of calls for it for sure, but less then 5% were positive.

Back on topic, I think it's mostly coincidence, like the way you notice how many a certain model of a car are on the road when you get the same one.

It's also a classic rock station in the Dallas area at 933thebone.com. Both owned by the same company.

I was tuned into our local rock radio (rock945.com) last night while playing taxi for my kids and actually heard Shockwave Black Tide on the air, was kinda surprized by that.

I heard Casey Jones on the radio recently and before a couple weeks ago I've never really listened to The Grateful Dead, but when that came on I you bet I was singing along lol! I'll probably buy at least Casey Jones from that pack as soon as I get more MP.

Oh ya, and I'm 16, so those who are saying that this game is introducing classic music to those who were not alive when it was popular are entirely right.

Damn. 107.7 here is a typical crappy radio station that plays nothing but the crap that comes out today. (rap, girl rock, pop, etc)

I've had Sirius radio for 2 years now and they are known for playing deep cuts on their respective station but I can say (and not just from familiarity) that I have been hearing more from GH and RB in the past 4 months
