View Full Version : Hardware Question?

First off let me say the I drive an 18 wheeler and my laptop won't run without frying the inverter in the truck so with that being said I only have a limited amount of time before my battery dies and I have to recharge this thing. So hopefully you all will understand that I don't have lots of time on my hands to search the 50+ pages to see if this question has been answered already. So I appoligize in advance!

I would like to know if this game for PS3 will support the "competitor's" brand of guitar and vice versa? (Don't know if there is any rule about not saying that word since the break up or not so I will leave it out.) By the way I'm not refering to the PS2 version but the "competitor's" game thats coming out for PS3 in a month or so.

What I had planned on doing since I love both franchises is purchase the "other" game with its controller. Then when rock band comes out purchase the bundle package. If the controllers work then I would have the nice Fender Strat for lead guitar and "other" guitar to be used as a bass guitar. (Mainly cause I don't see any need for fancy features on the bass since your not really playing much solos). I figure this way I can still play both games with out the need of buying two different sets of hardware.

Well if anyone has heard please let me know or if anyone in the company checks these threads out please pass this along for a response. This way I will know which packages to pre-order.

Thanks for helping!

the x-plorer from gh2 is compatible but it's still unknown if gh3's wireless one will work

Isn't the X-plorer for the X-box? I believe the guitar I was checking out was the Gibson Les Paul wireless guitar controller. I just hope whatever it was that caused the two to split doesn't leave them bitter and make them take it out of the consumers by not making the hardware compatible. Don't really want to buy multiple guitars just to play two seperate games. I think they will end up hurting their sales causing customers not to buy one game or the other due to the need to purchase all new equipment all over again. After all I just got into GH 1 and 2 at the beginning of this year and bought two guitars for that.

The Xplorer was for the 360, and is the only one confirmed to work with rock band. However, rock band controllers will work for guitar hero 3, while it is unconfirmed if gh3 controllers will work for rock band. Although Harmonix has said they would have no problem doing so.

Hey, man! Shouldn't you be watching the F***IN' ROAD??!!

Actually, I was wondering the same thing too, but I'm trying to remain patient... thanks for asking a question many people were wondering! :D

I was stopped for the night lol. Although I did have my laptop set up once on a stand beside me while I drove... but that was mainly for GPS.

I have already preorderd the Rockband Bundle and an extra guitar and had not planned on buying GH3 till after (and only if RB guitars worked for it) but after seeing the cool stuff with Slash in GH3 I decided that I might get it when it comes out and just transfer my reserve on the extar guitar over to GH3 so I can get the free Slash poster. But now that I am not sure that GH3 controller will work with RB I don't think Ill be getting GH3 any time soon. Although it would be really cool to have two different style guitars to play rock band with. (Who ever saw a bass player playing with a fender strat anyway lol. At least the Les Paul, in my mind at least, looks a little more like a bass.)

Oh well guess I will just wait till after the release to see what happens. Thanks for the comments.

I think that's backwards.

Guitar compatibility is a software issue: does your game recognize the controller. HMX has said they want to support as many 3rd party guitars as possible, and that includes the X-plorer and Les Paul. RO/Activision have not announced any compatibility, meaning the only guitars you can use might be the Les Paul.

Which is odd, because Red Octane made all their money on 3rd party peripherals; you'd think they'd be sympathetic...
