We where told In JULY of 2007 that whos next would be made Downlaanle "Shortly after release". Nevermind Was announced sometime after that (I cannot find the artical right now)
first band to receive the digital conversion will be classic British rockers The Who. Gamers will be able to form a virtual cover band playing guitar, hitting the drums, and singing along to the band's widely acclaimed 1971 album Who's Next. The album should hit soon after the game's release this fall, with new content planned on a weekly basis. For those a bit rusty on their classic rock, the full track list for the album follows:
The Who's Who's Next:
"Baba O' Riley"
"Bargain"
"Love Ain't for Keepin'"
"My Wife (Entwistle)"
"The Song Is Over"
"Getting in Tune"
"Going Movile"
"Behind Blue Eyes"
"Won't Get Fooled Again"
Harmonix also announced the first 15 songs from the retail edition of Rock Band. A glance at the list reveals a wide array of rock subgenres and decades represented, from David Bowie and Black Sabbath to The Hives and The Strokes.

The albums will be released when they are done. If they knew when they would be done, they would tell us. It's not their fault that they ran into technical problems with Who's Next. Be patient. Topics like these only create hostile environments. If you're that impatient, try to find other things to do in life to occupy your time until the albums start getting released.

If you can come up with the (apparently missing) original masters for Baba O'Riley and Bargain split into enough tracks to be usable in game, I'm sure that would help HMX hurry up. If you can't, then QUIT WHINING. THEY'RE WORKING ON IT.
That said, I wonder when Pinball Wizard is coming. Sounds like a fun song.

I like how the angry Europeans are intruding on random topics and whining about the delay. Ever since that PAL exclusive thread. Hats off to you Europeans that are being patient, and not taking your anger out on innocent Americans, who have nothing against you.
I do think Harmonix should tell us. Maybe you guys can stop being super cool internet elites, and listen to what he says, instead of criticizing him for his grammar, or his emotions.
I also can't believe how many people hate The Who. Like them or not, don't deny their influence. It's not like I go around wishing the Thrash Pack doesn't deserve to be in just because I don't like it. It deserved its spot. So why can't you guys do that for the Who? Come on guys, it's not like we're talking about Fall Out Boy (although sadly the fall out boy topic seem to have tons of people agreeing that they should be in DLC).

Im not just asking for Whos Next. As much as I dont like Nevermind those people have been waiting a Long time too.
yea but in that leaked list all they had was Behind Blue Eyes. Really? 5 months and thats all you've done?
All I want is For HMX to Keep their promises and I think We have been Waiting too long for them. It took them 5 months just for the dead to come out
really is it any diffrent from the other people complaining about bands that HMX has never even mentioned yet i see threads everyday on bands like Muse and Led zeppelin ( Both great choices but still)
they are my favorite band so you can see why i would be mad
for instance if you absolutly loved Led Zeppelin and they said that Led Zeppelin II would be released soon. yet 5 months later we would have even more people complaing where it was?

So far nothing (nothing, 0, nada) has been announced in any concrete manner about ANY of the songs that have been released before they came out. When they do give out slight hints (see OXM, 'leaks' in the download files) people flip their **** if they don't get EXACTLY what was described in such rumors.
So why, why , WHY would they treat this album/group any different than all the others that have been released?
The odds are they will indeed release who's next. Now chill out and check back next week.

From page 5 of a 17 page thread bashing Paramore, so nobody saw it. As long as everybody is letting it out, I feel it's appropriate.

Yea maby their song is popular at church
Wow. Has there been a week of dlc where you haven't *****ed about Who's Next? You're the type of close minded idiot that makes this forum bad. Opinion is opinion I understand that but when you express your opinion repeatedly in poorly written posts (900+) with no grammar or respect for anything that isn't Who, that's too much.
You can stay in your basement and listen to nothing but The Who, touching yourself to pictures of Pete for all I care but just keep it to yourself. You want Who's Next, we get it. Now shut up. Just for your information, Paramore was nominated for "Best New Artist" at the Grammys.

As for the Albums (let's please not derail this too much into an album/dlc discussion following this), I'm going to take the Blizzard stance: when they are ready, they will be made available, and we'll all be better off for the extra unexpected time taken. It's a sucky answer for the short term, but looking back I think we will all be happy with the results.

That just means that when they do come out, they will kick ass! If they rushed the albums out and they ended up sucking, I would be thoroughly disappointed, especially since they are probably going to be on the pricey side.
Kraeger

I'm content to wait, it doesn't bother me that much honestly. I think that the biggest determining factor might be the price of the album downloads. Any guesses as to what the pricing might be for the albums anyhow?
Hell, the pricing probably won't matter that much.

I think it's funny what is considered a "promise" by any company, and I only see it as decreasing how much they share with us in the future. Things change. If you've been living life for very long, you know that. Way back in '07 The Who said "Yeah! You can make our album a full download as content in your game!" And HMX was pleased. They told us about it. "We're gonna have Who's Next! Isn't that cool?" That was apparently a promise made in stone and signed in blood, as far as The Who fans in the RB community was concerned. Things have come up. Who knows what they are, but whatever it is they can't tell us. If Townsend (who is famously difficult to work with) is causing delays, they certainly can't tell us that. That would be bad PR, and The Who could pull out entirely. If the masters suck, to a lesser extent they couldn't tell us that either, for similar reasons. Now people are in a tizzy because they were "promised" something they haven't gotten yet. Key word "yet". They never gave us a date, they will be available when they are ready. The way I see it unless they say "I promise" or "we swear", it's simply information, not a promise. The uproar in the internet community over what they see as promises broken has one real outcome: they don't tell us anything until they CAN promise. Then we are completely in the dark, and still unhappy.

I'm going to risk posting something that A) may have already been posted and B) is from Wikipedia (double trouble). But it is relevant:
Recording Sessions
1970/71 - Demo sessions at the home studios of Pete Townshend and John Entwistle that produced two reels of songs.
1971 Jan-March - Live recordings at the Young Vic (mobile Studio).
1971 March - New York sessions, Lifehouse songs recorded with Kit Lambert and Jack Adams at the desk. These sessions were abandoned, along with the Lifehouse concept.
1971 April 26 - Final Lifehouse concert which was recorded and later released (in part) on disc 2 of the Deluxe Edition of Who’s Next
1971 May - Recording at Stargroves Studio London, the sessions were abandoned.
1971 May–June - Olympic Studios in Barnes Produced by The Who. Associate producer: Glyn Johns The Olympic sessions were used for the original vinyl LP album.
The album has now been re-issued in many countries and remastered several times using tapes from different sessions. The master tapes for the olympic sessions are believed to be lost or destroyed. So, there is some thought that the master recordings used to produce the 1971 release are lost or destroyed. Which means Harmonix is probably using other sessions to re-create the release as best they can, which means a whole lot of work to try and end up with something that resembles the original releases.
It's very likely that this is the "unexpected difficulties" that were mentioned in the quote above. My guess is that "Won't Get Fooled Again" was in great shape and Harmonix didn't realize how difficult this process was going to be until they started looking at what they had for some of the other tracks.
This is all guesswork, but what is not guesswork is that Harmonix is not releasing Who's Next yet because they aren't done with it yet, and they aren't done with it yet because they are trying to make it the best release possible, and that it is taking them longer than originally anticipated.
So, let me ask you, supposed Who fans: would you rather Harmonix rush out a sub-par release and get it a little earlier, or would you rather they take the time they need to to make sure it is the best possible quality they can make it?
Seriously -- Who "fans" -- think about this for a second.

Nothing, in any video game, should be considered to be a "promised inclusion" in the game until it is in fact, in the game.
Obviously there is something holding it up. I think that there has been enough demand for it that if it were ready, they would release it. I've heard rumors (from a supposedly reliable source) as to the cause of the delay, but again that is all it is. At the same time, they have done a wonderful job of releasing at least 3 songs each week, which is far more dlc than any other game around. Now take each track that would be released on the Who's Next album and multiply that by 3 months and you get the amount of time it takes to make the album, assuming there are no problems.
I'm sure that there is also some discussion going on as to the appropriate price point as well. We know the Dead pack was $10 for 6 songs. That being said, $20 for 12 songs would not be a bad guess, but there may be concern as to how many people will plop down $20 at one time for dlc, particularly if they only like some of the songs. Is it better to break it up into 3 packs? 2 packs? Just one?
In other words, all of this adds up to: the album will be released when it is ready. Unfortunately its a fairly rare occurrence for a software company to be able to give an exact date until the product is in fact ready.

This is exactly what I was trying to say in the "hurry up 2pm" thread, you guys have to stop getting worked up when something that you feel is owed to you isn't available at the estimated time someone said it would be.
this is a business world, you say "we'll have it out by march" that is UNIVERSALLY ACCEPTED by people with any amount of intelligence to be an estimate, it might not be out till december.
This isn't something that you've paid for, or deserve, or is owed to you, this is a very painstaking service provided to you at very little cost that frankly they don't have any obligation to make. If I paid an extra 300 dollars so that I could download weekly DLC songs and monthly albums at the onset, and then those albums and songs weren't available I might be a little mad, as it stands now the service of licensing, creating, marketing, approving and realeasing the songs is essentially free, you pay a very tiny amount of money for a massive amount of work.
Everyone needs to calm down, Who's Next might NEVER be released, it might be announced friday, who cares, be patient, and be thankful that they're releasing any songs or content at all, and just wait for things to happen.
You have no right to get mad about it, frankly you should be ashamed that you even said anything of that nature, I guess beggers can be choosers.
brobot
03-17-2008, 01:43 PM
If you think about it they are probably doing this for a more kick ass reason then you can think of. Maybe they are making the album so the you can play through the whole thing without stopping to pick the next song or adding in some special type of playlist feature. If they are holding the albums for some type of great add-on of any kind, then delay all you need. There are around 130 songs that can be played on rockband right now and to be honest most of them are real fun. Just give it some more time and play what we have.

Do you play WoW by any chance Riastlin?
No actually, though I have played MMO's in the past. Naturally this type of discussion happens more often in MMO's than other games because they in fact do continue to update the game (much like HMX is doing) after release.
The point is though, that its not a matter of simply hitting "Enter" on a central computer in order to put the expected content in. Its also why they likely will not give an exact date for its release until it is in fact done. After all, what if they believed that they just had 2 more days of work to do on it, and that meant that it could be release on 4/1/08 (I don't know how long the approval process takes for dlc). So, they happily announce that it will be released on 4/1. Then the entire team working on Who's Next comes down with the flu and is out for a week? There would then be people screaming about how we were promised to have by 4/1/08 and now they are breaking that promise.
Unfortunately s*** happens and not every deadline can be met. At the same time we are still getting new content every week, which is more than pretty much any game that I can recall has ever made happen. Sure, not all of us will like the content each week, but then we don't have to download it either.

I agree there should be an answer. The 'who' (pun?) is less important than the if and when, in my opinion. Once we get a re-commitment to putting out albums, and an album is actually released, it opens the doors for wrangling over 'who' will be on the release list, and 'who' will be when.

^^^But..they came out with a remastered edition in 2000 or 2001. Thats the version of the album I have. There must have been masters for them to remaster it.Right. So it is possible A) that the masters have been lost/destroyed since then (about seven years, so it is definitely possible) or B) the masters that were used for the remastering were fine for a 2 channel mix but not for what Harmonix needs. Again it is all guesswork, but clearly there is something making it harder for Harmonix to do the release, and in the absense of better information this speculation would make sense.

This actually reminds me of a Who documentary I saw on VH1. At some point in their history the lead singer would go on interviews saying they had written some new songs, or even recorded them, when in reality they had done nothing.

They said shortly after release...maybe they meant the UK release. Tho Who is an English band, it would probably be a smart business move to hold it back until they can enjoy it across the pond without importing.
Last word was it was held up by technical issues, but if they've overcome that, and it gets close to the European release then maybe they'll hold it until then.
Anyway every one should be sad as right now Who's Next is holding up Nevermind along with the announcements of other albums that they're working on.

I dont think i would even mind a cover. HMX drum covers seem nearly flawless. its the singing thats sometimes off. so if they could get the original singning and sythesiser tracks that would be fine to me. Ive seen some amazing Drum covers of Baba O'Riley and Bargian (Can somebody tell me where they found the information that it was a problem with the masters)
Get Zak starkey on drums.
I'm sorry but this just made me laugh. I don't think ANY band, no matter how large or small would allow session artists to record their music and just use the original vocal tracks.
Although some kind of answer, just how it's coming along, would be nice. Maybe a 30 second clip of the drum track to Baba O'Riley or some kind of teaser!

I think that the U.K./Europe will get RockBand before we ever see "Who's Next" :) I'm having a good time with the game, so I'll just wait patiently.

You're gonna be so pissed when it gets released and they're all covers because Keith Moon spilled scotch all over the masters.
I can't wait for that thread ! http://www.rodsquad.net/postimages/popcorn.gif

The albums will be released when they are done. If they knew when they would be done, they would tell us. It's not their fault that they ran into technical problems with Who's Next. Be patient. Topics like these only create hostile environments. If you're that impatient, try to find other things to do in life to occupy your time until the albums start getting released.
God I hate it when people think they know what they are talking about. What, do you work for harmonix? Of course not, so stop pretending like you know what happend with the Who's Next album. Ran into "technical issues" with Who's Next? Gimme a break, it's called laziness. They would just rather post CRAP as the DLC... We're lucky to get something good once in every 5 packs. This is garbage, it was just a way for them to sell the crap. I bought this game based on the idea that Nevermind and Who's Next were to be released. It's all bogus. Before you know it, they will scrap the idea and instead work on a follow up title to Rock Band and then make more empty promises. I'm sorry but if Harmonix is going to say something will be released "shortly" after releasing the game and not release it, I consider that b.s. ~ So you fanboy's who think you are tight with the "mod's" on here (who are the low man on the totem within the company anyway), you keep on thinking positive buddy.... have fun. Imagine if what they meant was that the U.K. will get full album of The Who for DLC, and the Americans will get Nirvana as full album for DLC. A little like that thread that someone started about PAL only bands.

Come on now, guy. Im sure Technical problems are the cause, TONS of people are excited about the DLC Albums, it was one of the driving points that made RB stand out over GH. Im sure its not just a case of them Dangling the carrot and pulling it away to trick us or something.

I dont think that is the case, as loads of Americans are looking forward to Whos Next? over Nevermind.

Hehe, sorry, I just played with someone on ET named Rastlin, coincidence I guess.

The way you type says a lot about a person on an internet forum, or at least enough to let us know whether to take you seriously or not. I think you should be able to figure out on your own whether or not you will be taken seriously or not. ;)

considering that they said it takes about 3 months, there abouts, for them to make and release a weekly DLC pack of 3 tunes.
with that, you could say that for every song in either album, its about a month of work.
I think Who's next has 9 songs on it, so going off of that, we have another 4 months until its done.

the Irony in this, is that you are making just as many assumptions about Harmonix Being Lazy, empty, greedy, what-have-you, as others have about it being because of technical problems.
from your statement, I am assuming that you know NOTHING of game design, of programming, or of musical recordings. technical problems are 95% of why games are delayed, why would an album pack be any different.

Maybe the capital letters are a code. If you put them together, they say "When is the Who's Next being released"

Here you go, this is the first full album coming out directly from MTV's "pile of stuff" Jesse Camp - Jesse & the 8th Street Kidz
(Yes I am joking, but funny if you ever had heard any of the songs from this album)
