I've been watching the videos that people are posting and it seems that the drum controller makes a reallly loud sound when you hit it. You think that they will figure out a way to dampen the noise it makes? I can see it really taking away from the game.

I found the guitar clicking to be intrusive when I started playing (edit: Guitar Hero), but after five or six songs it just became another ambient noise that I wasn't really picking up on.
I have a feeling the drums will be the same way. :p

You can get drum pads that are:
Cheap
Quiet
Durable
But you can only pick two. They picked cheap and durable. There aren't that many ways that you can make percussion quiet. In fact, that's the opposite of what you're supposed to do with percussion.
And have we already forgotten how quickly we've gotten used to the clicking on our guitars?

Dude, if you can hear your sticks hitting the pads, TURN UP THE DAMN VOLUME!
Please tell me that you're not going to play RB through your TV speakers!

Yea i know what your talking about, but if you listen to the videos, theres 0 sign of guitar clicking (i know the controller is different than gh2) and the drums are very loud and overpower the music. I never felt like the clicking overpowered the music. I just hope they find some way to dampen the noise a bit. :)

Somebody else here mentioned putting foam on the tips of your sticks. That should reduce it enough for you.

Put towels over them or something lmao.

The other idea was turning the volume up on your sound system.
expo videos aren't 100% indicative to how it'll sound when you're at home

Yea cameras can change pitches of sounds. Maybe it won't be like that.

As long as the drum heads are sensitive enough, you should be able to put foam over them and/or your stick tips to get rid of most of the sound. It might have a negative effect on the feel though. Like someone else said, you're supposed to be pretending to play the drums, which in real life do tend to make some noise when you hit them...
Having the audible feedback from the hardware itself can also help you keep time with the game music, too. Even with the GH2 guitar I find that in certain parts of certain songs I need to hear the clicking to match the rhythm of the song.

I intend on, you know, ROCKING when I'm playing. If I hear my tippety tip tap on the plastic pads, I'll just turn the knob closer to 11...

You could do what I do to my real set and cut out sheets of foam and tape them on top of the pads, they become a little less reactive but that depends on how thin the foam is and would cut out the sound.
EDIT: Someone already beat me to it on the suggestion but I won't be doing it anyway, drums are supposed to be loud when you are rocking :p

As a real drummer, I often put a light shirt or some other cloth on top of the drum heads when I want to play with full force but less noise. It seems to work well, and I'm pretty sure that could work in RB too. Maybe.

I don't think it will sound as loud as it does in that video when you are playing it at home, IMHO.

It was mentioned in one of the reviews that noob RB players tend to hit the pads harder than necessary.
I don't know if that's the case for every video, but it could be that people are banging away louder than they need to because they're not accustomed to the instrument.

quiet drums is an oxymoron. if youve ever banged on a practice pad, or those electronic drum kits they sound exactly the same. it's going to make noise if you want it to be quiet then you'll have to tap it lightly with the sticks or probably hit the pad with your finger tips or hands like youre playing bongos or something. most likely you're not trying to be quiet though, and you just dont want the banging to overpower the music, well we will probably have to crank up the volume. i think most of us will be focused on the music and should be able to tune it out.
