I'm pretty sure that was the case. The announcement was made in Europe, but I don't think the Ps2 version will only be released there. It will be worldwide as far as I know.

Totally. It would be silly to only do an EMEA release for the PS2

Taken from another topic:
What? It's coming to the PS2 everywhere. Just because the announcement was made in Europe doesn't mean it only applies to Europe. The PS2 version is coming out in NA too.

The PS2 version will release simultaneously with every European version, even in NA. So you'll be waiting till 08 to play it on PS2 regardless of territory.

Exactly, to the OP, you'll still get it for Ps2, but definitely not for Xmas, sorry bud.
Rock Band should really be the influence to upgrade to a next gen console.
You can't play Ps2 forever :)

No, but you can hold out as long as you can while prices come down and reliability goes up.
The PS2 isn't dead yet. You can still buy them new, and they're still outselling the PS3s. :)

im not an avid gamer, but i do own a ps3. i dont own an xbox, so please dont accuse me of being a fanboy or whatever.
maybe it's cuz im not a gamer, but i really dont see a need to upgrade froma ps2 to a ps3 just yet. as someone said, you can easily wait for price and reliability changes. is there really a game out there that warrants you to purchase the system? not for me. i got it because it played blu rays and maximized the output of my HD tv. i still enjoy playing resistance online with friends, but if I didnt have an HD tv, i wouldnt buy the ps3 just to play resistance. i enjoy playing ncaa in HD, but honestly it's not that much different from when i played at my friend's place on a ps2. the overall mechanics and enjoyment is the same.
even though we're talking about rockband here, $600-$700+ to play one game would be kind of ridiculous. sure you could argue taht in the end you will be getting your moneys worth as you use the console more, but for now it is what it is, all for one game. id rather just go over to a friends house to play it and hold on to my money by sticking with playing a real guitar or drums. but since i own a next gen system, $200 isnt all that much for something that im sure to really enjoy.
so the point is we're lucky to have our next gen systems, so we overlook the fact that there are still many enjoying their ps2. by not releasing this to the ps2 crowd, they would be missing out on a lot of market share. that 80s game sold a lot of copies, and although many of the buyers probably own a next gen system even at 50% there is a lot to be made.

How much are you willing to pay for a PS3? because if you waiting for the price tag to drop below $400 bucks...you got a long wait ahead of you I'm afraid, and the PS2 is not going to be able to last that long. I had to part (sold it) with my PS2 a good 3 months before the PS3 was released and save like crazy to be able to afford it. But the sacrifice payed off, I'm very happy with my new console.
But of course that's just me. :D

Ps3 is very appealing, but the money required...I mean, wow. but I already have an X360 so that's pretty much where I feel like being right now, because I don't have money to throw around like a drug dealer.
