Judy and Mary - Sobakasu
I love the guitar in that song. It's sounds so impromptu and all over the place, I always picture the guitarist totally off in their own world as everyone else is playing along...

Personally, I'd love to see some ZONE in the game (I don't have many titles because they're all in Japanese):
I would love to see, though, "Good Days" and the entire "E: the complete A-side singles" album.

JPop would be nice, but if implemented I'd hope for something other than just 'bubbly' Morning Musume type or JRock. ELT, The Indigo or some other ballad based JPop would be a welcomed addition.
I would KILL for some ELT.

If you want Jrock songs I suggest finding an arcade with Guitar/Percussion Freaks. Rock Band should stay American.

i believe we're discussing DLC. it's already been announced that world releases would have regional bonus content. there's no sense in limiting future DLC to just a specific region.

"Mikan", "Kurenai", and "Evolution" (yeah, I'm saying it) would be awesome to play. And for people that're all about "keep that foreign crap outta my game" need to open up. I'm sure that you all don't love all 45 songs in this game. Some of you probably downright hate most of 'em and only wanna play two or three songs. You are just going to have to accept that there's great music out there and you won't know how to sing the lyrics. But as we all know, rock isn't just about the words. Or the guitar. Or the drums. Or the bass. Or the babes (well...). It's about all of it. And just because you don't know the words doesn't mean someone else doesn't. I'm sure you don't know the words to a song the moment you hear it. It's the same principle 'cept you have to try harder. Listen to "Kurenai" and tell me that it wouldn't be awesome to play.

I like how this thread opened with two songs by a fake band. Unfortunately, no mere mortal could shred like Yuki, but I admit, the Haruhi songs do feature the perfect 4 member "Rock Band". SOS団! :)
I'd just like to make an open comment - Harmonix and MTV Games, if you don't release your localized content for download, I will be VERY SAD at you. I'm including JPop and whatever Euro* they're releasing on the otherside of the Atlantic these days. Don't punish us just because we like songs we can't actually pronounce the titles of. Even if they're unsingable (not actually true, or I can just find a legitimate native singer), I'd PAY MONEY (you like that kind of thing, right?) just for the guitar/drum parts in solo play, or just to pretend to be a band mate of _insert famous celebrity vocalist here).
Finally, I support the L'arc~en~ciel suggestions wholeheartedly. My personal suggestion - add some songs with silly dances in the music video (like L'arc~en~ciel's STAY AWAY) so silly people can dance to it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sh2d0ZneQUY). It'll give all the people watching something to do! I'll provide the original for comparison (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nF91fq3xVkE). If you add Hare Hare Yukai (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDe7Xqw4rWY), I will love you forever. ...I don't care if it has no legitimate reason to be in this game. <_<;

I'd kill for Porno Graffitti's Hitori no Yoru (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpNXo9YcAJA) (along with other tracks of theirs), even though I'm almost positive they use a drum machine.
Also, The Pillows' Hybrid Rainbow (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWIrPL4IhZ0) would be just freaky awesome. I can just imagine neighbors filing complaints about me as I yell out "CAN YOU FEEEEEEL!!!!" But really any of their tracks would be favorable.
On top of that, Penicillin. I know, the lead singer's fruitier than I'd prefer, but I think the band as a whole works well together, and I know the vocals would be a major challenge for me, and the guitar solos are tight.
"Hanazono-Kinema" (Flower Garden Cinema?) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxnE47el_yo)
"Romance" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3R4bejGZhNY)
There's a ton of great Japanese music out there, don't just glaze over it in favor of Euro junk like GH3 did.

High and Mighty Color - Ichirin no Hana
Lol I would love that. (and honestly, assuming you could open it up in practice mode or something, the lyrics wouldn't be terribly hard to do.)
HOWEVER I do enjoy most of these songs and agree that a lot of these people are saying "boo keep the lamesauce foreigns outta my 'merican made video game!" for a bad reason. If one were to complain about these songs, (most of them sound good so. . .) one should only make the argument that the majority of Americans can't speak Japanese and therefore, would have far too much difficulty (and likely far too little enjoyment) in their experience.
That's not to say that I don't believe these songs should make appearances. If they were DLC then those who wanted the songs (likely a fairly large cult following as anime is as largly popular as it is) could easily get them and all those with a problem towards it could easily save their money for other content.
P.S. guys, it's possible to play the game without someone on vocals (i think i didn't research that one) so if that's the case, I sure wouldn't mind Downloading a favorite JRock song of mine. Just listening to the azns sing while rocking out to a favorite jam.

All this time I thought putting J-Pop into Rockband would be stupid, since just a few selected people would like to sing in japanese, but actually, there are a lot of J-Pop fans out there who may download some kind of an Anime Theme Pack.
Maybe like this:
ANIME THEME PACK:

I agree that there needs to be a Jpop/Jrock possibility.
I completely DISagree with the assertions that RB should remain exclusively English. I say, if enough people want a band/genre, give it to them. If you do not like the music, don't purchase the download. It's that simple. There is no need to keep others from enjoying good music just because you have a narrow definition of what "rock" is.
Ok, now I get to have a bunch of Jpop/Jrock fans sneer at me for being lame. I would absolutely love to have several songs from;

There should be a multitude of genres and varied styles that appeal to both the masses and the cults. After all, it's YOUR game, you should get to play what YOU like.

No love for B'z? ::sigh::
EA's already licensed "Friction", so the channels exist to snag that and possibly more of their material. There's enough English-language stuff from them to do a SCORCHING song pack. "Devil" ("Tokyo Devil" revamped and in English), "Real Thing Shakes", "Slave To The Night" and "Friction" would all fit right in.

A good amount of songs people listed in here i would love to play (namely X Japan, the GazettE, and the pillows), but one band that I can't believe has not been mentioned yet is Luna Sea... such a wonderful band, and despite it's simplicity, Tonight would be rediculously fun to play.
Also, on the X Japan Topic, I think Art of Life would be awesome... for those willing to play for a LONG time, on bad thing is the piano solo would have to be severly shortened or removed completely, but none the less the entire song is in english, so it wouldn't involve having to no Japanese.
(Sorry about reviving this topic, if that angers anyone)

I've been thinking this since day one. DLC is a wonderful thing, because it lets Harmonix make all the songs appearing in other versions of the game available to each market at no additional cost/effort (presumably)! It's like them getting free money when we download songs that appear in other localized versions of the game. And since there will be DLC for each localization, presumably, I don't think it's unreasonable to hope for some good Jpop and Jrock.
I second:

Please NO GENERIC PILLOWS. Hybrid Rainbow and Little Busters are completely understandable since they're quite synonymous with the pillows, but honestly I feel Ride on Shooting Star is seriously demeaning and really generalizes the band
and makes them come off as a totally stupid band compared to their actual rocking reputation.
Although I'm digging the suggestions from people who suggest L'Arc (great songs but a bit deep since some are album tracks and thus abstract even to those anime fans who only know OPs and EDs nothing wrong with them though). But anyways some suggestions from me:
the pillows:
STRANGE CHAMELEON - http://youtube.com/watch?v=iC6BwWakYmg
SWANKY STREET - http://youtube.com/watch?v=ntqsug9rFpI
Fool on the planet - http://youtube.com/watch?v=umFR_yPE2JM

I only saw one other on the thread, but what about Ayumi Hamasaki, Yoshio Nomura does guitar work in her concerts (One of my favorite guitarists), and the drummer and bassist are just as great. I think that any number of her songs would fit well into Rock band.

I can understand where you are coming theres alot of good j-rock but in the end that leave the vocalist out....I don't know japanese and I don't wanna force feed the words. Which most I'll get wrong due to dilect and or slangs, if you know any good J-Rock Band that sing the entire song lyrics in english I'm all for it but then you also gotta consider J-rock would be consider fairly indie in the USA....SO I just that depend on the staff over at Harmonix

Love Psychedelico, Shiina Ringo, Amano Tsukiko, some other Judy and Mary (Motto comes to mind). I won't hold my breath but I would have to say if I saw any of these become avail as DLC I think I might actually lose it (in a good way).

Utada Hikaru has several songs in english (Simple and Clean, Passion, Exodus '04), as well as Puffy a.k.a PuffyAmiYumi(Planet Tokyo, Teen Titans Theme, A bunch of songs off of Splurge). I'm sure others have plenty as well, these just pop into my mind.

I would LOVE some Japanese music in Rock Band.
Ulfuls would be my first choice.
Samurai Soul - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THS80nAS73w
Banzai (suki de yokatta) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzExw9cW7mU
A****a ga aru sa - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jQ9nkntMjA
And about 30 more songs by them.
Other songs I'd like to see:
The Blue Hearts - Linda Linda http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=422sbnjJQfM&feature=related
Yamaguchi Momoe - Playback http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=biuG3x_M980
Southern All Stars - Manpi no G-spot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQwm7HIBLTg
Fukuyama Masaharu - Peach!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NCTBLCFLJY
Sharan Q - Zurui Onna http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBijcH8htSE
I'm not holding my breath on these, but I'd be willing to pay twice the regualr DLC price to get them.
It would definitely be nice if the DLC for all regions was available in every region.

Old thread? But I just got rock band, for the drums and the mic, and I am wishing for the J-pop and J-rock so badly...
The only songs on the game I truly love are the Black Sabbath ones: I downloaded those right away, and once we get better at the game, I'll probably download anything by Metallica and Rush
but there's a sad need for different songs on here...the complaint of not being able to sing the songs is completely invalid. When people start asking for European metal, are they going to complain about not being able to sing in German or Russian? I think people will look past the language because it's "METAL!!!!!"
but listen to something like Yaida Hitomi's CREAMY POTATOES, Otsuka Ai's PON PON, or Ayumi Hamasaki's Talkin To Myself and tell me you wouldn't play them...

It would be so awesome to get some Dir en Grey. I don't think their music is too obscure, Dir en Grey has been doing a lot of touring in the US, as well as in Europe, in the past few years, and they have a pretty big following. Having more diversity in music would help to attract different audiences to RB.
My suggestions for songs (from new to old) would be:
Dozing Green
Ryoujoku no Ame
The Pledge
Conceived Sorrow
The Final
Red... [EM]
Taiyou no Ao
Yurameki
Who cares if its in Japanese, I think there's alot of fans who would download it, and nobody's forcing anyone to download it if they don't want to.

Here is my 2 cents for some Japanese artists for RB
1. Asian Kung-Fu Generation, most of their songs would work
2. Orange Range - "Viva Rock"
3. FLOW - "GO!!!" and "Re:member"
and last but not least 4. The Pillows - "Blues Drive Monster", "Advice", "Crazy Sunshine", "Last Dinosaur", "Stalker", and "Ride On Shooting Star"

Nana Kitade - Lum no Love Song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idiO3VyvrbM)
Nana Kitade - Kibou no Kakera (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wn8U9g4nmiE)
Add these songs and the following as well:
Nana Kitade - Pureness
Do As Infinity - Gates Of Heaven
Do As Infinity - 135
Do As Infinity - Shinjitsu No Uta
L'arc~en~Ciel - Stay Away
L'arc~en~Ciel - Lost Heaven
L'arc~en~Ciel - Ready! Steady! Go!
Puffy AmiYumi - Circuit No Musume
Puffy AmiYumi - Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi
Asian Kung-Fu Generation - Loop & Loop
Asian Kung-Fu Generation - Haruka Kanata
TJ-rock is just the thing I'd love for DLC. They're bringing French and German songs to DLC after the european release, so this is a possibility. That's what makes me happy.:D

Should stay English language, rather. Plenty of good English, Canadian and Australian bands.
Why?
Everyone has their own musical preferences.
If music in various languages is available as DLC what harm does that do?
Some people like to try different things.

I think it would be awsome to play some Asian Kung Fu Generation, any of their songs will do, since they are all amazing and could work quite well. Also I would love to see The Pillows on there, anything from Happy Bivouac or My Foot.
Songs I'd Suggest
AKFG- "Haruka Kanata", "Rewrite", "Understand", "Kimi lu to Hana", "Loop & Loop", "Mirai no Kakera", "Sunny Day", "Re:Re", "Road Movie"
The Pillows - "Last Dinosaur", "Funny Bunny", "Crazy Sunshine", "Third Eye", "Advice", "Bran-New Lovesong", "Beautiful Morning With You", "She Is Perfect", "Gazelle City", "Mighty Lovers"
Just my 2 Cents

There are some really good quality JRock/Bordering on Pop bands out there--
L'arc
X
Glay
Luna Sea
Do as Infinity
If Rock Band could score songs from any of these groups, I wouldn't mind paying premium. CD's from Japan already cost almost twice what we would pay for them here.
I think this is a good chance to really show that Rock Band can be more than a game but a delivery platform for almost any and all genre that exists out there, regardless of instrument or language. Who knows how many more units could be delivered if Rock Band wasn't confined to a single genre of music.
For those who say it should stay English-- no one is forcing you to buy the DLC. If you don't want it, don't buy it. It's as simple as that.

Especially considering that the European release will have songs in multiple languages, and supposedly those songs will be released as DLC in the US at a later date, I can't see any reason to specifically exclude Japanese music.
Also, good call on Luna Sea. They were one of my favorites back in college (ah, the plus side of living a few blocks away from a Kinokuniya at the time).

I wouldn't really consider Dir en grey J-Pop, any more. But I would like to see some in Rock Band. Both new and old. Cage would be awesome...Some other Japanese bands that I'd love to see added include
Maximum the Hormone
Miyavi
MUCC
L`Arc~en~Ciel
Malice Mizer
Psycho Le Cemu
403 Forbiddena (They could actually have a chance, seeing as how all their songs contain english lyrics)
Not to mention, an Anime song pack might not be too bad either....

Hey all,
I'm just posting here to show my support for this idea. I think when it comes to DLC its by choice so there is no reason not to have a wider variety of things from many regions and languages to choose from.
I would LOVE to see some Jpop/Jrock, and really I don't give a hoot what group or songs, I would still buy it!!! So I see this as a great idea!
Also to comment on the vocals, anyone who has ever done any kind of singing or voice training knows that singing songs in other languages, German, Italian, French, etc. etc., isn't really a big deal at all and is fairly common place (maybe not in rock but in general). Besides the fact that you dont HAVE to have someone singing, singing in another language isn't totally horrible espeically after some practice and a karaoke style way of learning it. That's just my take.
To sum it up, BRING ON THE JROCK!!!!!

The thing is, it's not that I don't want this kind of stuff in Rock Band. In fact, I would love some Japanese songs in there like Haruka Katana (which would be great). The problem is that not many people would be able to sing, very few people in fact. At least, it would be very hard. So that's the problem. I know it's optional but it has to make good business sense. I mean, they'd be lucky to sell a few hundred copies of the songs. I'd love to see it in but I don't think they'll be able to reasonably do it.

Really, the whole process of figuring out whether this is worthwhile or not is relatively simple. First, put Ready Steady Go! by L'arc en Ciel out there. If that does well, then throw up Rewrite by Asian Kung-fu Generation and one of the following female led songs: Ichirin no Hana by High and Mighty Color, Tookumade by Do As Infinity, or Raion by Jinn. These are all songs that the American population would be somewhat familiar with (provided you put the series listed along side it I suppose...). After that, if it's still doing well, start releasing more. Maybe some songs from Ellegarden since almost all their stuff is in english anyway.
For those that say these songs are difficult to sing... no. Unless we're doing some rapid-fire lyrics like Rip SLYME, they're relatively easy to follow, especially if they're broken up by syllable like every other song in the game. They're also memorizable after a dozen or so run throughs like every song you've ever sung in your entire life. So that little argument is invalidated right about... now.

I'd love J-Pop or Visual Kei in Rock Band....Where to start
Naturally:
Ready Steady Go - Lar'c En Ciel
Several T.M.R songs, particulary any from the Under Cover Album
Rewrite - Asian Kung Fuu Generation
Melissa - Porno Graffitii
A Broad Selection of Buck Tick Songs
Gackt, Gackt and...GACKT!
X-Japan...oh god X-Japan would be SO Sweet to chart! and some of their songs are entirely in English!
Several songs by Nightmare
Some Alice Nine
Several songs by Kagerou
I could go on forever, but thats just a base idea of a great pit of ideas!

There's no reason this can't happen. With HMX putting German and French songs in the game, and with all the people demanding Spanish songs now, there's no justifiable reason for them to not include some J-Pop/J-Rock. In fact, at that point, you could really start to make an argument towards racism if they didn't (if you're one of those people that likes doing those things; I personally am not, but I'm just saying you could...) Honestly, Japanese is one of the few foreign languages I can stand hearing sung. I don't know, I just don't really like the way spanish or german sounds when sung.

I put my vote for J-rock/J-Pop/Visual kei DLC songs, since Harmonix are releasing native language songs from German and French bands. Even if the Japanese lyrics have to be romanized, that would be fine. I know a number of J-rock/J-pop/Visual kei fans who would get into Rock Band if there was such DLC content is available. I do not know how big this market is potentially (there are many anime fans in the U.S., judging by convention attendance numbers), but I think it would be worthwhile to try a test song. The test song should be from a well-know band, like L'Arc-en-Ciel. After all, iTunes is offering support for non-U.S. songs in the U.S., so why can't Rock Band (especially if Rock Band is going to be used as a platform to promote music and artists)?

I've been clamoring for Queen for a while, so why not two birds in one stone? Go for Teo Torriate and have a Queen song with a Japanese verse. :)
That aside, I'm all for Japanese songs in Rock Band, there's this awesome rocky version of Yokai Ningen Bem by Ciel Bleu which could be fun. :)
Oh, and though it's from a kid's show, this one would just be hilarious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CATvbGfxF_w

I made a topic on this a while back but it only had like 5 views and no replies. Doesn't seem like many people want it to happen. I said that they should put in some of the songs Kurikinton Fox plays, God Knows and Lost My Music were two that he's played that you had in the first post.
Go look him up on youtube, there's someone else too that I wanted to mention, although he's not japanese, the music is the same style.

This would be an awesome idea if i could actually convince myself that it could realistically happen. But there's too much Anime themed music in here. Need more Ayumi Hamasaki. (Yes, i know she did some stuff for Inuyasha ect.)
Also, i think, if we're gonna include J-pop in with the J-Rock, we gotta see Masami Okui. Godspeed would be a perfect fit in RB. It even has a semi "wicked guitar solo" Surprised no one mentioned her.
And TWO-MIX. But alot of their stuff is synth, though...

I suppose I can understand that, it is one of those songs that really grates on you after hearing it a few times. I just am always enchanted by Hydes husky voice ^^; Originally even I was considering not putting it there, but it is their most well known song so I bit the bullet and threw it on there, but I had to compensate by putting something else by L'arc ^^; Way I look at it, alot of people DO like that song, several that don't really like anime that much, so it would be a good gateway song ya know? Cause if you don't want it you don't have to download it, the TRUE beauty of DLC ^__^

^Totally understandable. Pretty much yeah it's grating because it's their most well-known song but we know it's not their best (or best representative song). Same thing would go for a band like the pillows or Asian Kung-fu Generation, dozens of people would want to put songs like Ride on Shooting Star or Rewrite.

Wow good taste (No Self Control is my favorite pillows song too). I'd probably either pick Crazy Sunshine, Hybrid Rainbow, or I think I can (if it had to be FLCL songs those 3 would bring the most challenge while still being fun and being good pillows songs). Or for songs that aren't FLCL I'd have to go with Fool on the planet, Terminal Heaven's Rock, or Swanky Street. For AKG I'd probably go for After Dark (most of the songs off their new album are great).

Thanks and yeah Haruka Kanata does have a lot of potential for great tracks.
But for overall charts I'd say that L'Arc~en~Ciel would take the cake, Hyde's vocals are outstanding and would definitely be Tier 7 or up, Ken is definitely one of the best guitarists in all of Japan and the same goes for Tetsu concerning bass and Yukki is definitely not a bad drummer at all.

I certainly want to see some Japanese and Spanish on RB soon. However, given that the English-only players aren't going to appreciate other languages, I would hope they'd put out a Japanese (or Spanish... or Italian, or German) pack at the same time as an English pack, so it doesn't interrupt the flow of English music onto our systems.
Besides just J-Pop, though, I would love to see some of the anime music. Just for starters, Nightwalker's ending theme (Mirai Kourou?). And maybe the one from MKRE (Embracing Light and Shadow?). Sorry about not getting the names right, it's late and my brain isn't fully functional.

Yeah, there are some good solid anime themes that could be incorporated. I actually posted two a few posts ago, (The World by Nightmare, Death Note Opening and Zips by T.M.R. from Gundam Seed) and also some songs from FLCL by the Pillows.

Should stay English language, rather. Plenty of good English, Canadian and Australian bands.
hey man, there are a lot of good bands around the world that sing in english language, they dont necessarily have to be from the US, UK, Canada or Australia.
For example, Seether, they are an awesome band that sing in english, but they are from south africa, so they should not be in ROck Band, becuase they are not from the "mainstream" countries?

Just cause some xenophobe americans have such a narrowed view on rock music doesn't mean others should suffer. Solution? If you don't like it, you don't download it. Easy as that.
J-Rock is just the same as American Rock, just a different language. Its not all bubble-gum-pop-happy-happy.
I would understand if its not possible to get into Rock Band due to copyrights and all that legal mumbo jumbo...
but if because a handful of people say it should stay "American"? A country with a cesspool(sp) of MANY different ethnic backgrounds? Thats just silly.

The Anime Crowd playing Rock Band is HUGE. Really, it's HUGE.
I staff at six of them in the midwest, including Anime Punch, Anime Central, Ikasucon, Sugoicon, and Matsuri. At Punch I was the one in charge of bringing rock band in to be played in the gaming center. It was played NON STOP for all three days from the moment we opened the doors till we forced everyone out of the room. The con had to buy me a new guitar and drum kit they were beaten on so much. I watched four guys get gold stars on Coheed And Cambria - Welcome Home (expert) and then continue to get 2,000,000+ for their total score.
Acen has 20,000 people at it for those not famillier. It spans two hotel convention centers and the Donald E. Stevens Convention Center in Chicago. There are lots of people who would love japanese stuff to be in rock band.
I pretty much figure:
Ready Steady Go - L'Arc~en~Ciel,
UNDO (Full metal Alchemist also, dunno the band...)
Duvet - BoA (lain opening)
Heroes Come Back - nobodyknows+ (Naruto Shipudenn opening)
For those who say it would be hard to sing: No way. The stuff on the Euro pack will give you WAY more trouble. Japanese has to be converted to english letters from Kanji, hiragana, or Katakana, and is almost completely phonetic. Unless the song is REALLY fast you can just read it off as it comes along as I've been doing for all the original songs on rock band (they were before my time, sorry...)

Great song, but not really J-pop, is it? Kind of like counting Girls On Film just because it was the Speed Grapher OP.

Ok, you got me on that one, though admittedly, I can't find anyone who knows who BoA is outside the Anime Community and I guess I got a little stuck on well known anime openings more so than J-pop.
I can't believe I didn't mention the Pillows in there either, those guys really made FLCL something, I'm still Kicking myself for missing their concert at Anime Central about four years back.

I am ashamed to admit I know that BoA song all to well. I watched the Lain series again a few years back, and it somehow seemed less profound than when I was 20.
I don't think we get any J-Pop/J-Rock unless they do some sort of Asian Rock Band. That seems unlikely given that Japan already has games like DrumMania and the GuitarFreaks.

It'd be great if they just tried with like a small j-rock track pack and release songs for the non-jmusic fans out there and see how the sales go.
*sigh* idunno. I'm just gonna keep hoping and dreaming its gonna happen even though the chances are very slim.
I definitely want to see L'Arc~en~Ciel, Pillows, X Japan, and Miyavi just to name a few.

For the sake of those unfamiliar with the song I suggested, here's the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDbtX8tbpbg
However, as evident in this fanvid, there is actually an extra talky part at the end, which in the event that this song finds its way into RB, HMX may or may not chart (or animate the vocalist saying ala the end of "Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld"/James Hetfield's laugh in "Enter Sandman"):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmwacmoftRg
And yes, I'm aware that the opening guitar part for this song sounds like that of "Blitzkrieg Bop".

Asian Kung-Fu Generation for their amazing and inventive guitar intros. Not to mention kick-ass drums, and a pretty cool singer. <3 Rashiban
Flow for their ability to piece together fast songs that are fun as hell to listen to.
L'arc En Ciel because they're L'arc En Ciel, although I think I spelled the name wrong.
Gazette, because Gazette has amazing guitar and bass.
And Sambomaster's Seishun Kyousoukyoku (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tn_DcAj62lQ), because it's an amazing song.

We got the Euro pack and you have to sing in French and German (which is harder to sing than Japanese) and we got that "Trash" Pack which has gobbledygook vocals so I don't know what the hell you're smoking since 1. HMX obviously has no problem with having unconventional vocals (not that it really matters because quite a few of the better J-Rock choices for RB have fantastic vocalists that would provide a challenge) and 2. Not to mention the fact that A LOT of people bought said packs. In conclusion, think before you post and GTFO of the thread. Kthnxbai.

a pity they couldn't consider "The Art of Life" - X Japan... great stuff, the sheer length would make it a great challenge, and it's being in English, or at least having an english version would combat the naysayers. and it's got quite a few challenging sections... as I hope 29 minutes would offer. if that's already been sugested, sory to waste time and breath.

Looks like Japanese songs for Rock Band is no longer a question of "if" - just "when?" And we still might need to drum up support for ensuring that the songs are able to be downloaded over here. There's the slight problem of shifting from kana to romaaji (English letters), but the process should be relatively straightforward, assuming they choose a sensible romanization that uses "shi" and "tsu" instead of "si" and "tu" so people unfamiliar with Japanese won't have trouble decoding the sounds.
I gotta say, I am looking forward to getting more non-English songs on Rock Band. Romance/Italic languages - check. German - check. Japanese - check. Hope they get Finnish at some point (Teräsbetoni!! (http://youtube.com/watch?v=wZqpwVZqQFg) - or non-live version (http://youtube.com/watch?v=oNyRDX-yFTE) with translation, if you prefer). Finnish is also straightforward decoding, actually similar to Japanese as far as phonemic decoding and lengthened letters. Would also like to see Russian eventually.
But Japanese would probably have one of the strongest followings because of all the anime interest in the world right now. Especially if a lot of the selections are from anime, not merely unrelated J-Pop or J-Rock. (Guitar Hero IV should pick up Trigun's theme - someone already fretted it for Frets on Fire and it's insane.)
Anyhoo... this is one huge list of suggestions to sort through. Someone with some free time care to run back through the thread, grab all the names of all the songs suggested so far, sort them by group, sort the groups alphabetically, and post the list here? Preferably with links to YouTube where appropriate? It would be extremely useful to see them in a simple list, all sorted... well, even unsorted would be more convenient than trying to sort through fifteen pages on my own.
Douzo yoroshiku! (Hope the Japanese part of my brain is still working and that means "Please be kind enough to do that for me!")
ETA: Adding "Japanese" songs sung entirely in English is not a good solution. First point: They will likely be sung not in English, but in Japlish/Engrish instead. I personally enjoy this, but if you're trying to use "English lyrics" to overcome the "hard to pronounce" and "don't make any sense" parts of Japanese lyrics, then you probably don't want to sing anything like this:
I can see you wonder, just like always you do.
I know you get under your aching sad fire.
"Everybody's in vain," you're whispering yourself.
You're in trap again that's, no, you don't wanna be.
Secondly, people who truly love the original Japanese songs are not going to greatly enjoy English covers. Those people including me. I want to sing in Japanese, honestly in Japanese, and that would be the primary reason I would buy an anime or J-Pop or J-Rock song. If I got an English knock-off, I'd feel gypped (no offense meant to the Roma or other gipsies; I can't think of a better word to describe my feelings).

I'm not entire sure people are going to want to sing words they don't even know what mean.

Does this deter people from singing along to nonsense songs (Sarasponda, sarasponda, sarasponda, ret-set-set), or songs whose lyrics are hard to make out, or those whose lyrics are just plain insane? How about when the band overpowers the vocals? What about those sweet little French phrases that more than half the listeners wouldn't get first time (Voulez-vous couchet avec moi, ce soi?)?
Although I greatly prefer clear vocals to obscured vocals, I would make the argument that unclear or insane lyrics in English isn't much of a barrier when it's a fun song, and that people can sing along just as happily to "Kiss This Guy" lyrics as they can to the real deal. And since it's not a barrier in English, I don't think it should be much of a barrier in other languages, particularly phonemically written languages such as Finnish and Japanese.
See, with French, you have to know which letters to ignore and which to combine and all that... and letters cross the boundaries between words, which makes it even worse. With (sensibly romanized) Japanese and Finnish, you learn the vowels and a couple non-English letters (Japanese R, for example), and you can read the entire language start to finish without ever understanding a word.
Besides which: Most fans of anime wouldn't care, and many of them already speak Japanese to some degree anyway, especially if they watch subs instead of dubs.

Another band that could work (since I'm still trying to think of bands that would even satisfy those who do not wish to sing in japanese) is Ellegarden. Once again most songs are entirely in understandable english, maybe Firecracker and Salamander, those would be awesome to play.
Also for those like me that would enjoy singing nonsensical engrish, the PENPALS would be a fine choice. :D

Anyway the whole thing is I'm saying if it's in Japanese you're not going to be able to read symbols!
You realize of course Japanese does not have to be written in kana or kanji? It can be transliterated using the standard Roman alphabet.
Kilyle
06-26-2008, 01:01 AM
Yes, nobody is saying kana. Maybe someday we would have that option, but right now, we're sensibly asking for romanized Japanese - Japanese written using the letters you're reading right now. E.g.:
The song: Waru BAD BLOOD from The Slayers
Partial version found on YouTube: here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2W2FCuhh8g).
Now let's try the lyrics. I'll use a Romanized form of Japanese that transliterates consonants the way they should sound - shi, tsu, chi; o instead of "wo," e instead of "he," and m when the syllabic n comes before M, B, or P. The words in caps are either English words or a Japanized form of an English word (MOZAIKU = mosaic). I'll even separate the words into syllables (and, because of that, I'm spelling "ou" as "o-o"):
yu-ga-mu tsu-ki
ka-ki-mu-shi-t-ta
mu-ne no na-ka
sa-wa-gi ta-te-ru
tsu-mi na-n-te
yu-u-ka-n-jo wo
nu-gi-su-te-te
o-re wa ne-mu-ru
NOISY NOISY SILENT NIGHT
chu-u-to ha-m-pa na i-ki ka-ta ja
o-re ga ki-e-te yu-ki-so-o ni na-ru
nu-ku-mo-ri ya ya-sa-shi-sa wa i-ra-na-i
wa-ru na me o to-ra-shi
a-su no e-mo-no ni na-ra-n-da
WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA
SHAKING SHAKING IN MY SOUL
te-n-shi to a-ku-ma
SHAKING SHAKING IN MY SOUL
se-na-ka a-wa-se ni na-ru
SHAKING SHAKING IN MY SOUL
MO-ZA-I-KU go-shi-ka-ra
SHAKING SHAKING IN MY SOUL
mi-e-ka-ku-re shi-te i-ru
yu-re-ru o-mo-i o
u-chi-ko-ro-shi-te 'ru ANY TIME
If you have the lyrics in front of you, I don't think you'll have much difficulty following the song and maybe starting to sing along. The biggest thing to know is the Roman vowels - ah, eh, ee, oh, oo - and that the Japanese R is kinda like a cross between L and D. Moving into romanized Japanese has a very easy learning curve - and compared to French, it's a cakewalk.

I dunno, going to Japan probably isn't the only thing that does it. I'm nowhere near as into J-Pop now as I was back in the early-to-mid '90s. I think it mostly had to do with expanding my musical tastes* to include genres from other countries as well. I'm still into Japanese music as a whole, just not as OMG-obsessively as I used to be.

If I got an English knock-off, I'd feel gypped (no offense meant to the Roma or other gipsies; I can't think of a better word to describe my feelings).
I feel entirely the same way but seeing as rock band left Perfect Well in it's orignal language I don't think they would compose english covers. English covers of jpop are no longer jpop at all.

Rock Band Japan is coming out soon, with Japanese songs. So we either have 3 option IMO.
1. We get Harmonix to have some of the tracks from Rock Band Japan available on DLC for us.
2. We get Harmonix to give us some user suggested songs <-- Most preffered no?
3. If they don't agree with that. I guess its time to get a credit card and let the import fest start?

Should stay English language, rather. Plenty of good English, Canadian and Australian bands.
If you want Jrock songs I suggest finding an arcade with Guitar/Percussion Freaks. Rock Band should stay American.
You both realize these arguments are idiotic and void, considering we already have some German music in the game, right?

It seems some people can't stand other cultures, that's why.
These people should learn that there is a vast library of music out there that is in a language other than english.

Well, I haven't downloaded Hier Kommt Alex so I wouldn't know. But it would be hard as hell to sing a J-Pop song (you would probably need to be fluent in Japanese to sing it well)
And yes, it is okay to have German lyrics because the German language is a bit easier to sing and say

Just because it's easier to you does not mean it's easier to everyone else.
The fact is that earlier you said only if the lyrics are in english...and now you say German is ok just not Japanese??
I think Japanese is easier to say and sing, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying the hell out of attempting to sing Hier Kommt Alex.

There's tons of J-Rock and J-Pop I'd be down for, but since for some reason there's a lot of anti-non-english proponents out there (which I find strange considering that there are some SPANISH language DLC currently out), I think the one that actually has a lot of potential to even get a song or two out there is one OLIVIA LUFKIN!
Particularly stuff off of her "LOST LOLLI" or "CLOUDY DREAMER" EPs. Some of it is in Japanese, some of it is in English, but either sound sick as hell and the songs for the most part rock SUPER HARD.
Take for example "Spiderspins" (in English):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mS61nUi8hk
or my personal favorite Olivia song - WISH! (also available in English):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zATyE-AQO0
C'mon, don't be closed to the sounds of the East, people! There is global rock out there, and I think that having some Spanish tracks out on the DLC market now is a step in the right direction!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, SOMEONE (particularly HMX) RECOGNIZE THAT OLIVIA ROCKS!!!!!
Her songs are melodic, pleasing to the ear, and they freaking ROCK!
Thank you for your consideration. hahaha

Wow, this is the most flawed logic I have ever heard. It's okay because it's easier? That has nothing to do with it; and I also agree that Japanese is easier to say. I find it flows off the tongue better, and quite frankly I think Japanese sounds better when sung than German. And no, you don't need to be fluent in Japanese to sing Japanese songs. Before I ever started learning Japanese, I had a whole CD of Japanese songs that I could sing, just from listening to them. It sounds to me like you just have something against Japanese music, and are grasping at straws to try and present some kind of defended argument.

I have no problem with doing vox for J-Rock songs. I can already sing quite a few songs. Here are some of the bands I'd like to see:
Asian Kung-Fu Generation
Dir en grey (Has some cd's released in America. Support thread here (http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=119337).)
ELLEGARDEN (Sings in English very well)
L'Arc~en~Ciel (and P'Unk~en~Ciel if possible)
The Pillows

there many good songs, but i have a few more vote, i dont looked all the thread so i can't say if they allready listed here.
rewrite. from asian kung fu generation (used for 4th opening of fullmetal allchemist)
dreaming fighter. from flow (i think) (used in one of naruto opening, but too bad they cut the great solo in that opening)
papermoon. from tommy heavenly6 (also the second opening of souleater)
gimme all of your love. from tommy heavenly6 (i dont have any clue if used somewhere else than singing)
by the way, sorry, my english is not that great

Nanase Aikawa (For the uninformed the group that Marty Friedman plays with now in Japan)

i would like to see.....
Asian Kung-Fu Generation
Sambomaster
STRAIGHTENER
Chatmonchy
Base Ball Bear
i can sing most Asian Kung-Fu Generation songs, and some Sambomaster tracks. Takashi from Sambomaster has this unique vocal skill, and the way he sings the songs. for example, tracks like Utsukushiki Ningen no Hibi, Sono Nukumori ni You ga Aru, Sayonara Baby, Hito wa Sore o Jounetsu to Yobu (live), and Yogisha de Yatteki ta Aitsu. There are more songs than just the anime tracks. Especially when people mention AKFG, its always, Haruka Kanata, Rewrite, and After Dark. Though they are good songs, i really got sick of listening to Haruka Kanata the most. They have other songs like:
Atarashii Sekai
Mirai no Kakera
Blue Train
Hold Me Tight (Feedback File version)
Natsusemi
Blackout
Fujisawa Loser
Mustang
Kaigan Doori
No.9
N.G.S
Wakusei
Rashinban
Re: Re:
Kaiga Kyou****su
Senseless
Dodomeguri no Yoru
Korogaru Iwa Kimi ni Asa ga Furu
Entrance
24 ji
Enoshima Escar
Toraberogu
Imada Minu Asu ni

i can literally keep on going and going with Ajikan, and Sambomaster. But that list is just to name a few by Asian Kung-Fu Generation. check them out if you have the time.

Dunno if anyone's suggested them yet (sorry, but I just don't have the time to read through 24 pages! ^^; ), but what about VAMPS? (consisting of HYDE from L'Arc~en~Ciel and KAZ from Oblivion Dust)
They've got 5 original songs that are completely in English (plus one cover):
~ LOVE ADDICT (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4DmBpFatmI)
~ Vampire Depression (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5y6r9zcd_Ic)
~ Redrum (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7S16jOpUzI&feature=related)
~ Hunting (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueiAf3fa6LM&feature=related)
~ SEX, BLOOD, ROCK N' ROLL (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHD2NAxUqFo&feature=related)
~ Trouble (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbgaoanvlzE) (cover song - remember it from the Power Rangers movie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Umr0MdFSIO0&feature=related)? XD)
Plus all of their songs have at least a little English in them. They've got power, a large fan-base (most of the venues on their tour in the US from July were SOLD-OUT!), and well... they just ROCK! 8D Personally, I think "LOVE ADDICT" is the best out of them, but other good ones are "Cosmos," (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JD4Lh7vKxdg) "Evanescent," (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sk0qJZOtnic&feature=related) and "I Gotta Kick Start Now." For anyone opposed to the idea: remember that language does not change music quality. Only complete morons shun an entire culture's worth of music, and only complete morons think one language of music is somehow inherently superior.
On that note, to increase the variety of music in Rock Band, I support this idea, as one of my previous posts has probably said.
For suggestions, pretty much anything by Versailles, L'Arc-en-Ciel, Dir en grey (which would kick my brother's ass on drums), Screw, Girugamesh, D'espairsRay, and Maximum the Hormone. This list will grow as I use last.fm more.
And for J-pop, never forget Aya Hirano, including the non-Haruhi songs (Neophilia is killer, for instance).
