The first time I played Rock Band was about two days ago. I was incredibly excited about playing it, and I got to play it on PS3. The guitar was wireless.
So I go home, monday, and I'm aching to play Rock Band. So I head on down to Best Buy, blow about 185$ bucks on it, and go to town with the drums. I leave everything else unopened.
Today I'm feeling a little tired so I'm thinking hey I'll just play guitar, so I finally open the box. Guitar? Not wireless.
What the hell, Harmonix? Guitar Hero 2 dropped the ball on this one too. In fact, I never bought Guitar Hero 2 and waited for Guitar Hero 3 solely on the basis of getting a wireless guitar, rather than blowing pretty much what equates to 40$ on a peripheral I don't really want.
That was an awfully long time ago. I own a wireless guitar for my copy of GH3. It's not like it's some secret mystery to put wireless technology into a 360 guitar. Here I am, aching to play on the RB guitar and in order to do so I have to plug it into my XBOX (which is in a very weird position in relation to my TV), and avoid crossing too many wires and getting tangled up. Not a good thing.
My father got RB for like 120$. I'm wondering why the hell I spent an extra 60$ and got screwed out of a wireless guitar. I bought the special edition so it's not like I got the "wrong version". Why no wireless?

You can play with your GH3 wireless Strat.
The 360 version came wired due to MS's licensing (ie: charging) to use their wireless technology.
If you really want a wireless strat I belive they'll be available for purchase 4/8/08.

It's weird, but no explanation has been given. The ps3 is wireless, the 360 is not. They are releasing 360 wireless, though.
Wireless solution: Use your guitar hero 3 les paul. It works, and is better in many ways, even though I do like the solo buttons on the strat.

Maybe Harmonix was aware that the PS3 was getting a generally inferior version?

Personally I like the wired ones, My luck I'd be in the middle of a song and bam dead batteriesI finally got to Tier 9 in Expert a couple of days ago, having never played a GH game before, so I've played quite a lot. I bought the bundle on launch day and have never replaced the included batteries.
Wireless > Wired, period. I just wish there was a wireless Mic available...

I might be behind the times here, but will this be a wireless strat through HMX?

You forgot about the disclaimer on the ebgames.com site.
"Official pricing and release dates have not been announced by the publisher. Price and release date listed are estimates only and subject to change."
This is a common practice with ebgames, so don't be too upset when they don't ship at that date.

Just a side note... my buddy in Virginia picked up 2 les pauls from GH3 for about 30 bucks a piece used at Gamestop.
I bought RB on launch day, played the strat about 3 times and then went back to my Les Paul.
Just about everyone I know offline and online who plays expert guitar at the "gets gold stars" ability level plays with the GH3 les paul. The solo buttons are "nice" when you are on Medium or Hard, but on expert... way too many "extra" notes tapped in to play something like GG&HT.
It all comes down to personal preference.
Also: The reason for Xbox not having wireless is because they charge a lot of money to allow companies to use thier patented wireless technology. Some companies would rather "wait and see" if it's gonna be worth it.

1) How the hell your father got it for $120 is probably the main thing I would like to know, considering that Rockband is priced equally for both the PS3 or 360, so you couldn't have been screwed outta $60 for wired peripherals.
2) This is why product research before you buy ANYTHING (expensive at least) is always important.
THIS is how I knew they wouldn't be wireless:
GS: What kind of challenges did you have to overcome to add wireless instrument support?
DS: We didn't experience many technological problems in our efforts to go wireless. The PS3 Strats are all wireless, and we've been working very closely with Microsoft on our wireless technology for the Xbox 360 Strats.
GS: Four peripherals and only three USB ports…will the Xbox 360 package include a USB hub?
DS: Yes, the Xbox 360 Rock Band Special Edition bundle will include a USB hub.

they didn't want to have to charge more for the xbox version just so it would include a wireless guitar... did you really want them to be responsible for more fanboy fights? "OMG the PS3 version is so much better it's wireless and CHEAPER!!" blah blah blah.
