Anyone else love Final Fantasy 7?

MartyMcFly

Indeed.

I think there was a thread a while ago that said, Which is the best FF and the worst?
Majority said VII was best of course.

I don't plan on getting a Ps3, but if they remade VII, I'd be all over it.

VII was important for its time but was overrated.

Now start a thread on Mother and I'm there.

Yeah I liked VII but not as much as everyone else.. probably because I didn't get my ps2 until late in the game.

Cloud also bugged me with all his ".... .." that I had to button through.

I liked FFVII, but I think FFXII changed a great deal of things I always thought were goofy or annoying about RPGs. Things like not being able to see enimies as you walked around the map, entering magic "battle mode" wolrd when you did fight enemies, and having to jam on the attack button until the fight ended on pointless/easy random encounters.

Of course Chrono Trigger fixed 2/3 of those issues WAY before FFVII was even made...

Over-rated, and it doesn't age well at all.

FFVI is excellent, though.

Yeah, it doesn't age well at all but FFVII will forever be the best gaming experience I have ever had, I can't see anything topping it, not even Rock Band as awesome as it will be.

For real! Remember first summoning Ifirit? Som *****! That was bad ass! I don't care what any of you say, FFVII was, is, and always will be the best. Its not overrated! You're overrated!

But seriously, random battles were always a way of the RPG. Of course that has changed a bit.

FFVII had awesome cut scenes! Bad ass magic materia! Knights Of The Round, come on people! Chocobo racing, little mini games at the Golden Saucer! You people can't appreciate any of the small amenities!

The story was incredible, Sephiroth is the baddest mofo that can be labeled a boss.

Did anyone else cry when Aeries was killed! I know I did, not because it was sad, but it pissed me off. She is one of the main characters. I had that ho pimped out, and to see all my hard work ruined in one fell swoop was very disappointing.

I even beat Emerald and Ruby weapon....good times!

All the people saying it was overrated are completely wrong. They're all judging it based on today's RPG standards.

FFVII is one of the greatest games of all time. No other game has a better story line, I've yet to ever play something that kept me deeply interested in the story.

Just as Ibanez was saying, your first summon, getting out of Midgar onto the world map for the first time, and other things were just so exciting.

Not to mention all the item combinations, weapons, and especially materia. Games 10 years ago were all action/adventure where you have the same 1 or 2 weapons, and 3 or 4 moves to do.

Not only was it great "for it's time" but it's still one of the best games even today.
Certainly a better RPG than World of Warcraft, and I played that friggin game for 2 years.

When I saw FFVII on the PS3. I honestly can say I creamed. I'd damn near sell my soul to have Square remake it! Ohhhhh!

For real. There is no video game story that has kept me as engaged as FFVII's. Not to say that I haven't played games with good story lines, just not nearly as good as VII's. That game was amazing. I still hold RPG's to its standards and they've all fell below it hence why I probably don't play them anymore...
I think the moment I found out Cloud had lied about his past was more shocking than Aeris dying. But that's probably because some jackass gave it away that she died so I knew it was coming

And Sephiroth is still the most bad ass boss in video games! IMO :D

Cloud didn't really lie, he just didn't know. Being he was a clone of Zak, some of his memories were that of Zak's. He was misinformed and lied to himself. Cloud wasn't anything like what he thought. Kinda of funny.

Maybe my memory has become lacking, but I don't think Cloud was ACTUALLY a clone. He just wasn't all that important in his hometown, Nibelheim(?) when he was younger. Kind of like if Tifa was cool, he was a dork and she didn't associate with him.

His memories weren't Zak's memories, he was just one of the soldiers and remembered himself in Zak's position, instead of a generic soldier position.

I, too, cried when Aeris died, not because she was someone I spent a lot of time leveling up (although I did), but because I was attached to her. Had it been Barrett or Red XIII, I probably wouldn't have cared all that much.

I was in love with the materia system, but I have to say, it eliminated classes. I'm not sure if I'd change it, but I think it makes more sense to have people specialize because then you can retain the idea that they existed before the game started, and had been training in a particular field. I doubt if you had been training in shooting your gun arm for 17 years, you'd suddenly become equally powerful in magic within the course of the game, unless it also took 17 years.

VII was incredible. It still is incredible. It, however, ranks second in FF games to me. FFX is my favorite, and I'm not particularly sure I am ready to recognize FFX-2 as canon.

This has inspired me to find another thread which must exist by now.

Good input so far, everybody. I like what I'm hearing around here.

What were your guys favorite summon. Mine would be a tie between KOTR and Zero Bahamut.

And you are right about Cloud not being a clone, rather him and Zak where part of an experiment conducted by Hojo, which included them being injected with a Jenova specimen.

The moment I actually got pissed.....

Remember when Cloud returns to Nibelheim to see the city engulfed with flames. LOL! I love the look that Sephiroth gives Cloud....lie "What cha gonna do *****!" CLASSIC!

The baddest mutha....

I'd have to say the same. Except when you could do KOTR 4x!

I forget how to do it, something with a Summon X2, and then a Master Mime materia? lol I can't remember.

It was Quadra Magic. The materia that allowed you to cast a spell 4x.

Of course I did always love the Final Attack/Revive combo as well.

Quadra Magic!! There it is. Ya know, to this day I still never did defeat Emerald or Ruby weapon  I suck I know.

Those two were by far tougher than Sephiroth. And if you didn't have the Underwater Materia, it wasn't happening with Emerald. Ruby was another story. My method was going into the battle with two characters KO'ed. That way he wouldn't use quicksand and eliminate the two out of three you had. Then use the Phoenix Materia, which brought the two back and caused some damage to Ruby in the process. Good plan and it worked. And if you used KOTR, instant failure. This is where the Final Attack/ Revive combo came to good use.

Hell ya FF7 is my favorite game of all time no question.. I put so many hours into this game and got everything, and I still go back to it like once a year... if they ever do remake it for the PS3 I'd buy the system heh I remember how long it took me to "create" a golden chocobo and I don't even remember if I ever did... I think I just got the one you get after you beat one of the Weapons...

Not quite my friend. You had to use specific colored chocobos, with certain greens, along with an S-Class for both breeding. I honestly don't remember what colors they were but if one were inclined to look up such info... I actually bred one. You have to have one in order to get KOTR. So if you never got that materia, you probably didn't breed one.

I know nerd... It was like green then blue then black then gold, plus the nuts confused me lol.... I just couldn't remember if I bred one or if I got one for trading in the desert rose to the dude at Kalm, but I checked and I have more than one so I'm thinkin both... damn those races were annoying
