View Full Version : Transfer rocker to a different gamertag?

I'm sorry if I sound ignorant about how all this ties together, but...

My wife developed a character (let's call it "Her") under my gamertag ("Gamer1") on my Xbox 360. I know (now) that we shouldn't have done it that way, but now we need to transfer that rocker to a different gamertag (her gamertag that we just created, "Gamer2"). I'm not trying to involve another physical box; it's all on the same Xbox. I want to transfer the character "Her" from "Gamer1" to "Gamer2".

Is there any way to do this, or does she have to "abandon" that character? It's a big deal because she's completed a full solo tour using this character, and it'd be a ton of work if she has to do it all over again.

Any thoughts?

Brad

Nope, there's no way to transfer character between gamertags. She'll have to abandon that one and create a new one under her gamertag.

The benefit of that is that she'll get the achievement for finishing the solo tour on her new gamertag ;)

what if you moved the saved game data to the new gamertag under the 360 explorer?

I don't think the Xbox 360 handles gamertag/saved game association strictly by if the saved game data is in the gamertag folder... that would be really nice, but I don't think so.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think I might have stumbled upon the answer a while back...

If you delete her old gamertag, but not her old save, the save goes into an "abandoned" state. From there, the next gamertag to use that save takes ownership of it.

No, you're right, it doesn't. It handles gamertag association much like Windows (or Unix, if that's your flavor) handles any file ownership. It doesn't matter what folder it's in.

An interesting idea, somebody want to give it a shot? :)

I would think the first save would overwright the old one, but who knows. A data-safe test would be easy to do.
