I know that we all have the same track details so far but to be honest i am very worried at the lack of any heavy metal. lamb of god, all that remains and shadows fall made GH2 for me and i really hope that hmx puts at least a few heavy metal songs in (ideally a ton of them!)
(edited out dragonforce haha got it mixed up with rockband)

GH3 is that way ---------->
No Dragonforce here bud
It's Rock Band, not Metal Band

metal is a type of rock is it not?
if you want to argue that way, this is not grunge band or punk band, so no nirvana, ramones, or the clash.

No I know, I'm just givin a hard time.
But we had a debate a long time ago about how Metal would be tougher in this game because of the vocals and stuff.
An ongoing argument with Rock Band was the lack of metal. It's been done to death.

We still got 14 tracks to go on the main set list. Maybe we still got a chance, of course I doubt that all 14 of them will be Metal songs, I settle for 2 at least.

I think we can assume that the direction of the game is mass appeal, and metal does not fit. although I'd think we could see some as DLC

That's what pretty much ended the other debate.
What is mass appeal is general rock that everyone knows.
There will be tons of DLC, and I'm sure they will cater to metal fans, as well as country music fans even.

maybe for DLC they will have song packs for death, thrash, black, doom, and other "scary named" metal types. personally, i hope they stay the course with the current music selection.

well this "mass" appeal isn't appealing to any of the huge mass of people who love metal.

Personally I don't care what genre of music they put in the game, as long as it works and is fun, stick it in!
I lean more towards metal/hard rock myself, but I love me some country music like 16 Horsepower, or Slim Cessna's Auto Club. Some f*ag rock like Pansy Division, Space rock like Zolar - X, Jazz, Death Metal, Blues ... I don't care as long as there is a massive fun factor! Bring it on!

Now tell me some country would not be fun!

it depends what you class heavy metal ass. If Metallica, Anthrax and Slayer are heavy metal then those bands widely reach out to mass appeal.

No need for hostility. The OP mentioned mainly newer metal bands: All That Remains, Shadows Fall, etc.
Those are the bands that don't reach out to mass appeal because they are simply not known and established like Metallica is.

there is a HUGE scene that doesn't listen to any of the stuff put out yet and listens to lesser-known bands like those(although i do consider ATR and Shadows Fall pretty well known). they need to realize that that is a huge audience as well.

true. i know there is a big following there, but it's still a minority with what the overall appeal of the game is. remember we're talking about mtv here. again they'll probably suck in the outlying markets with DLC.

i know that metal may not be the biggest market but still even someone who thinks metal is just a bunch of noise has to appreciate how sick some of the guitar and drums are in it

I think it's just hard for them to choose just who to put in...these days there are so many styles. But, hopefully, they can choose a few pioneers of metal to showcase just how good heavy metal, in all it's forms, can be...

Actually I love those genres, but I figured they would be the last ones ever put into any game as they are way to slow for even a lot of metalheads to handle. Maybe some traditional doom stuff or the "faster" paced hybrids. Hah.

No way these would work for the mainstream player. But DLC FTW!

You cannot tell me a Megadeth track such as Holy Wars wouldn't kick ass in Rock Band.

Blackwater Park would be an amazing song for this game, but I don't know if anyone could match the vocals.

Course it would. I just said for the mainstream player. Songs your average person would know.

I don't think prior knowledge of all songs is absolutely essential, In my opinion one of the greatest aspects of the Guitar Hero series is that it introduced me to some great songs I had not heard before which have now become favorites of mine. Whats wrong with introducing new people to the fun and intensity of the heavy metal genre. Could be a good release for some. Imagine screaming Pantera- Walk after a annoying day at work.....etc

Slipknot would be the best choice for mass appeal metal. They could use the radio version of Wait and Bleed (which is mostly singing) and the Terry Date mix version of Vermilion (also mostly singing). Same thing with Before I Forget. I mean c'mon, if they can do Sabotage, then they could def. do Duality. My vote is for Slipknot if they want metal that appeals to the masses.
